Cake and Cupcakes Blog hop

Welcome to the Moda All-Stars Mix-it-up blog hop!

The Moda All-Stars have been sewing away with cake and cupcakes, and it’s so much fun!  When Martingale asked us to create a quilt using either Cake or Cupcake papers, I didn’t hesitate.  I love these papers!  They make piecing a quilt so easy.

Of course, they remind me of my favorite treat, cupcakes!  Who can resist a few of these while you sew?  Here’s a little tip: Buy some cake or cupcakes for your family before you start sewing with these papers, and they will be encouraging you to stitch away!

Now, the end result of all our mixing and stitching is a new Martingale book from the Moda All-Stars, featuring 16 original quilt designs from Cake Mix and Cupcake Mix papers!

You’ll find my little quilt called “Frosty Days” on page 55 of this book.  I used charm packs and cupcake papers that resulted in 6″ blocks stitched to perfection!

Here’s a close-up of my quilt showing how the two blocks intersect to create an illusion of one block continuing into the next.

Here’s the best thing about the Moda All-Stars books:  The royalties for these books are donated to different charities, and this one is no exception.  All the royalties from our newest book will go to Feeding America, and your purchase will help end hunger across our country.  You can read about this organization and the fantastic things they do at feedingamerica.org.

Of course, Moda has given us some fun prizes for this blog hop.  I’ll be giving away a copy of this book, along with some charm packs and cupcake papers.  You could win this prize if you leave a comment on this post telling me about your favorite cake or cupcake. (Do you bake your own, have a favorite bakery in your area, are they a part of your family celebrations, etc.)?  I’ll be picking a lucky winner on Saturday, the 9th, so come back here to see if you won!  I’ll post the winner below!

My favorite cake is Peter Paul Mounds cake. I’ve had it for my birthday every year since I was a little girl. It’s like the candy bar with coconut between the layers and absolutely delicious!

Congratulaltions Deb!  That cake sounds delicious!  Thanks for entering.  I’ll get your treats in the mail right away!

Love all cupcakes, especially mocha flavored!  But when I don’t have time for home made I simply love the small brownie bites with seasonal frosting bought in the bakery area of your favorite grocery store.

I like to bake my own cakes/cupcakes from scratch. Hubby likes my carrot cake, some of my kids like German chocolate with coconut pecan frosting or angelfood cake. They all like pumpkin pie cake. I’ll eat any of them!

  • Karen N.

Definitely chocolate cake!! A family favorite for celebrations is the chocolate sheet cake from Costco. The price is great and so is the cake. We’ve ordered cakes from local bakeries and always enjoy Costco’s cake the most. Now, for a homemade cake…..German Chocolate cake is a favorite. With homemade frosting!! Yummy!!   =:)

Whoever came up with cupcakes is brilliant. And whoever mixed them in with quilting is downright genius. May I have two favorites? The chocolate chocolate chip and the classic vanilla at Nothing Bundt Cakes. (Okay, they’re actually called bundtinis, but does it really matter?) Thank you for sharing your darling, delicious Frosty Days.

Our favorite cake it a chocolate bits bunt cake with chocolate pudding, sour cream and chocolate chips…..death by chocolate!!!

  • Marguerite Guinn

My favorite cake is angel food cake!  My grandmother made the best cakes, but there was something really special about her angel food cakes!

  • Kristie M Michalowski

Love Red Velvet cupcakes but I have never made them myself.  I do indulge every now and then at the bakery.

  • Dee Winter

My favorite cake is the chocolate one that I always made, starting when I was very young, with my Grandma.  It’s recipe was cut out of a newspaper and taped into my Grandma’s steno notebook recipe file.

  • Carol G

I love Carrot Cake or maybe I should say I love the cream cheese frosting.  I make my own.  Would love to win this giveaway.  I have never used Cake Mix Papers.

  • Loris Mills

My favorite cupcake (and cake!) is carrot cake with cream cheese icing! :-)  My mouth is watering thinking about it! Thank you for all the inspiration!

  • Patricia

As long as the cupcake has a generous amount of icing, then it qualifies as a favorite! Thank you for the opportunity to sew these beautiful quilts!

  • Cathy Clark

Oh my, Chocolate Cake with White Frosting! I am working on a cake project right now using Recipe #4. I love the quilts I’ve seen in the Mix It Up book and your Frosty Days is the “Frosting on the Cake”. Thank you for such fun designs.

  • Darla

This blog hop has my attention for several reasons:  my preteen daughter loves to bake and we both love to sew and I am getting into quilting….  Also, because I love charity giving such as feed America!    Hmmmmm a favorite cupcake?  I would have to say chocolate and peanut butter!  Thanks for this opportunity!

  • Becky S

My favorite cake is the chocolate chocolate chip cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes-YUM! Your Frosty Days quilt is so pretty! I love medallion style quilts. Thanks for the wonderful giveaway!

  • Robin Harvey

My favorite is “Special Day Cake”.  My grandma used to make it, so in addition to the celebrations it was made for, it holds special memories of Grandma.

  • Sherry

My daughter in law is the cupcake baker in our family.  She makes them for most family celebrations and they are always delicious and so pretty.

  • Terrie Ruiz

Love Love Love your quilt and I do suffer a little bit from accuracy so am really thinking that I need to give these papers a try. Also the names don’t hurt as I am a pretty big lover of cake. My favorite cupcakes are chocolate with cookies and creme frosting but am also a pretty big fan of strawberry with cream cheese frosting and I could go on and on :) Thank you so much for the inspirations.

  • Barbara

I’m afraid cake really isn’t my thing, especially since I no longer eat wheat and am trying to cut down on sugar. I love cheesecake and flourless chocolate cake. One of these days I’ll get around to trying some low-carb recipes.

  • Nancy Fitzpatrick

A Joanna Gaines Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting recipe in her cookbook is my favorite cake to bake!  It is delicious.

  • Martina

I love to make the mississippi cake! It is the family favourite here in our house! And I love baking more than cooking – it is a bit like being in love more with quilting than cleaning, lol! Your quilt looks  wonderful😊!

  • Ruth Arrowsmith

I love to make carrot cake.  We even had carrot cake for our wedding cake, after being frozen a year the cake topper was still moist and delicious.

  • Linda Holland

My favorite cupcake is vanilla with real icing not whipped cream icing. I don’t like to bake but my daughters and son-in-laws all love baking. Can’t wait to see what paper piecing cupcakes will look like.

  • Sharon S

The Chocolate meringue cupcake at Stanwood Cupcakes is my favorite, so far. There are so many great cupcake stores! Thank you for the great giveaway.

  • Patty Fowl

    Good Morning Anne,
My favorite cupcake is German Chocolate or Red Velvet… Actually my favorite is heavily skewed by the frosting .  I love the coconut pecan frosting and the cream cheese frosting… the cake is secondary!

  • Susan Justice

I love cake and cupcakes! I am the official baker for my family birthday celebrations and everyone has their own favorite, all are different. Black bottom cupcakes and eclair Cake are ones that everyone love! My all time favorite will always be a rich, dark, topped with lots of creamy frosting, chocolate cake!

  • Brenda Shippy

I love giveaways, they are so fun! My favorite cupcake would have to be chocolate with buttercream frosting. Thanks for the chance to win.
