Cake and Cupcakes Blog hop

Welcome to the Moda All-Stars Mix-it-up blog hop!

The Moda All-Stars have been sewing away with cake and cupcakes, and it’s so much fun!  When Martingale asked us to create a quilt using either Cake or Cupcake papers, I didn’t hesitate.  I love these papers!  They make piecing a quilt so easy.

Of course, they remind me of my favorite treat, cupcakes!  Who can resist a few of these while you sew?  Here’s a little tip: Buy some cake or cupcakes for your family before you start sewing with these papers, and they will be encouraging you to stitch away!

Now, the end result of all our mixing and stitching is a new Martingale book from the Moda All-Stars, featuring 16 original quilt designs from Cake Mix and Cupcake Mix papers!

You’ll find my little quilt called “Frosty Days” on page 55 of this book.  I used charm packs and cupcake papers that resulted in 6″ blocks stitched to perfection!

Here’s a close-up of my quilt showing how the two blocks intersect to create an illusion of one block continuing into the next.

Here’s the best thing about the Moda All-Stars books:  The royalties for these books are donated to different charities, and this one is no exception.  All the royalties from our newest book will go to Feeding America, and your purchase will help end hunger across our country.  You can read about this organization and the fantastic things they do at feedingamerica.org.

Of course, Moda has given us some fun prizes for this blog hop.  I’ll be giving away a copy of this book, along with some charm packs and cupcake papers.  You could win this prize if you leave a comment on this post telling me about your favorite cake or cupcake. (Do you bake your own, have a favorite bakery in your area, are they a part of your family celebrations, etc.)?  I’ll be picking a lucky winner on Saturday, the 9th, so come back here to see if you won!  I’ll post the winner below!

My favorite cake is Peter Paul Mounds cake. I’ve had it for my birthday every year since I was a little girl. It’s like the candy bar with coconut between the layers and absolutely delicious!

Congratulaltions Deb!  That cake sounds delicious!  Thanks for entering.  I’ll get your treats in the mail right away!

I usually purchase my cupcakes from a local bakery Kupcakes and Company.  I used to bake my own when I had kids living at home, but my husband and I can’t eat our way through a batch of cupcakes.  Now we can each have our favorite cupcake with no leftovers.

Wonderful giveaway some one is going to be very happy.  Thank you Moda.  My favorite cake, for celebrations, is  from a lady that has baking our cakes since my daughters were little.  They are now 39 and 46.  We used her when both daughters got married and now for our grand-kids birthday cakes.  She makes the best super moist cake.  So yummy.

Oh Anne I love that quilt the fabric is just lovely.  I recently discovered these  Cupcake Mixes and the one I wanted seemed to be out of stock everywhere, now if I could just remember which one it was!  I went to London years ago and had a cake in Peggy Porschen’s cake shop.  I am not a cake eater… this was the most beautiful little fairy cake it tasted exquisite I think we had banana and salted caramel.  Divine.  The homemade cake that I love the best is coconut and a rich Christmas fruit cake.  Almost time to get cooking.  Thanks for the lovely blog post and chance to win a prize.
