Merry Merry Snow Days

Merry Merry Snow Days, Block Four

If you’re still embroidering skate runners from block number three, don’t worry!  Block Four will go faster than the others, and you’ll have time to catch up.

Remember all the 1/4″ bias you made for llama legs?  It’s going to make your applique life much easier in block number four.  The lodge poles and tree trunks are from the same bias.  And, we’re ready for the third star that you made at the beginning of this quilt.  You can almost sit back rest those applique fingers.  Almost.

I’ve divided this block into two parts to make it easier to applique.  Let’s start by prepping all the applique for part one.  You’ve got two stripes in this block, so take each stripe one at a time and think before you cut.  Fussy cut the stripes as you come to them, and think of them as good friends.  You can’t have a candy cane sled without stripes.

Once you make that little snowman body, put him back over the pattern and trace all the details.  You’ll be tracing his ski poles and arms once he’s on the star so use a ruler to guide you. Those arms and poles are just straight lines.  Look at the starting point and endpoint, and draw a straight line in-between.

When you work on part two, the lodge,  you should feel like you’re on applique vacation.  I’ve given you placement guidelines for the lodge on the pattern.  Use that wonderful ruler to help you position it.  Trace the lettering on the sign and the lines on the windows before you place them on the lodge.  Once you have everything in place, applique, and complete the embroidery. If you’re wondering how I got the bias poles in-between the stripes, it took a little maneuvering.  Feel free to adjust the poles as needed.  Sew part one to part two.

Are you ready to ski?  Go ahead and check-in at the ski lodge.  I made a reservation for you!
