Jelly Roll Chickens etc.

Who doesn’t love a jelly roll?  The whole process of cutting the fabric and rolling it amazes me, and when I have one in my hands, I love the way it looks.  If you love Jelly Rolls too you’re going to love the new Moda All-Stars book!  Moda All-Stars On Roll ships tomorrow, March 15th.  And once again the royalties from another Moda All-Stars book go to a charity.  All the royalties from On A Roll are donated to School on Wheels (SchoolOnWheels.org).

There’s everything in this book from my Jelly Roll chickens, Stacy Lest Hsu’s butterflies, to Barb & Mary’s One Roll Wonder and Sweetwater’s Square Dance.  There are 14 quilts in total!

And you might find out some things you didn’t know about each designer.  For example, Betsy Chutchian foolishly sold her 1969 yellow Ford Mustang while several states away, Joanna Figueroa was dreaming of owning one!  As for me, I’m dreaming of a new Mercedes GLE SUV in a warm taupe color.  And Sherri McConnell would like a BMW 4 Series (I’d take one too if I can’t have the Mercedes). Lisa Bongean wants a vintage white Cadillac convertible.  Who knew all these things?

Here’s the fun part! I’m giving away two of these books on Saturday, March 16th.  You could win one if you leave me a comment telling me why you love Jelly Rolls.

And if you happen to make my Jelly Roll chicken quilt, “Rule the Roost,” you’ll discover the answer to that timeless question “which came first the chicken or the egg?”.  These chicks are some pretty smart girls!

Back soon!

Anne

I love jelly rolls.  I often times have problems pulling together fabrics and jelly rolls take out the guesswork.  There are also so many patterns available that use jelly rolls.  What could be better than that.

  • Kathy h

I love jelly rolls because of the variety of fabrics. When I find a fabric line I love, my quilt shops don’t always have the full line. So the jelly rolls are perfect. And now I can find many wonderful  patterns to use them.

The book looks great! I love jelly rolls because they are super cute and so much of the work has been done for me. I love having all those coordinates in one place, and did I mention that they are super cute! Thanks to you and the other designers for making a difference!

What a fun new book and for those luscious jelly rolls. Who can resist those coils of lovely strips of color to entice us to unroll and let the imagination run amuck?  Fun to unroll, fun to ooh and ahh, fun to pet, fun to lay out in groups and then more fun to change our minds on what we will do. Perfection. Thank you for adding new sparks to ignite us into action.

I love jelly rolls because then I get a piece of each print in a line of fabric and then can add yardage of my favorite(s) for borders, etc.

Hi Anne,  I find that using jelly rolls allows my teen-aged daughter learn to love quilting.  With jelly rolls it is easy for her to incorporate her love of color into fantastic creations quickly.  She is proud of her results and eager to create more designs.

I love jelly rolls so convenient and soo much fun to use ..Here in Canada fabric is approximately $21.00 + a meter(39″) and if I get a jelly roll I can have so many pretty patterns of fabric to love and use ..It’s always ‘Jelly Time” at my house!!!

  • Margaret

I like jelly rolls because of the variety of fabrics. And I think your hen jelly roll quilt is completely adorable!

  • Tiffanee Noack

I just love jelly roll quilts because of all the yumminess you get from a jelly roll. And the fact that the strips are already cut and ready to use. Jelly rolls just make life easier🥰

  • Kat

Congrats on the book!  I love jelly rolls because you get a little sample of many different fabrics and they’re there for you when you need to whip up a quick quilt when the need arises. I love unrolling one and seeing the variety of fabrics.

Jelly Rolls are the perfect way to get a piece of every single design & color in a fabric line. Who could argue with that???

  • Susan R.

Jelly rolls are amazing as I see more and more patterns all of you creative people are designing!  Pre-cuts (jelly rolls) make life and sewing more simple! This looks like a lovely book and thank you for the chance to win!

  • Little Quiltsong

Congrats on your lovely quilt pattern – love what you designed with a jelly roll!! I love them especially for scrappy bindings when I have big quilts to bind – makes it sooooo much faster :)! Looking forward to seeing all the delicious patterns in this new book.

I absolutely love jelly rolls because I can quickly piece a simple, delightfully colorful and yummy quilt top in no time or I can create a more complex masterpiece and a portion of the work is already done for me with utilizing the precut strips.  Sadly I will say that sometimes I don’t want to unroll them because they are so pretty and make me happy just they way they are — sitting on my shelf — so I find myself buying 2 of the same often so I can have one to “decorate” with.  I also love your patterns!

  • Allyson McClay

I love jelly rolls because they are a simple way of achieving many different designs where the colours are beautifully selected for you.

  • Leigh Ann Prange

It makes sewing so quick because the strips are already cut!! I worked at a shop & we didn’t have the JR for a certain line & it took me 2.5hrs. to cut a JR!!🙄

  • Amy Hancock

This is simple.  I love a scrappy look and Jelly rolls give me a great collection of scraps.  There is enough variety to make many quilty projects with even just one delicious roll.

  • Marian

I love jelly rolls because everything is mostly cut for me and I don’t have to decide on the materials!! Lazy I know,

  • Debbie

I love jelly rolls because all the beautiful fabrics are color coordinated by
Fabulous designers.  Easy to work with since it is a challenge for me to put together the right fabrics.

Jelly roll chickens?   I’m in!  I have a pretty substantial jelly roll collection … I love to look at them!  Unrolling is fun but they never roll back up quite as pretty!  I’ve been collecting these Moda All Star books and this one looks like another winner!  I can certainly use it … jelly rolls as a decorating accent kind of misses the boat … I need to USE them!! As always, Anne, thank you for the opportunity!

  • Judi Leventhal

I like jelly rolls because they are so versatile (and I like the name). Besides, they are so pretty all rolled up, it’s almost a shame to take them apart (but I do…eventually)!

  • Robin Crittenden

I love them because it’s easier on my hands.  Cutting lots of fabric is hard on them.  And easy is better.

  • Wendy Baldiwn

Love the look of jelly rolls.  I love that they are the result of a collection of fabrics, all of the colors and design in one roll coordinated.  Most are too pretty to unroll!

  • Carmen Montmarquet

I have several jelly rolls waiting for just the right pattern.  Looks like there are several patterns in this book On A Roll that would be awesome to use them up with.  Really love that chicken pattern.  Thanks for a chance to win!

  • Barb Haakonson

I am itching to do a jelly roll quilt. I was planning on looking for a pattern…this book would eliminate all the searching. I love the chicken quilt. My daughter use to raise chickens and would love this, cluck cluck

  • Lori Heinz

I love using jelly rolls!   You get to start sewing right away and they are so versatile!   Thanks for a chance to win this fun book!

  • Lisa Lyons

I can’t wait for this book to come out!  Jelly rolls are the quickest pre-cut to make a quilt from.  I saw a video of a woman making a jelly roll.  I was amazing how she layered the fabric, rolled it up, and then she twisted the fabric so you could see all the beautiful colors.  Sometimes they are so hard to cut into! Thanks for the opportunity to win this fun book!!

  • Rebecca Sneeringer

Actually I have never made a jelly roll quilt, but it is on my bucket list, these quilts are awesome. I especially love the chickens.

  • Connie

I love jelly rolls because I can use lots of templates that fit on a jelly roll and don’t have to cut into a large piece of fabric.  And, I love Chickens too!  And, I want a Mercedes too, but I will have to win the Publisher’s Clearing House to get one!

  • Carol Putnam

What’s not to love about jelly rolls? I love the convenience and they’re so beautiful! Can’t wait to see this book.

  • Jan Butler

I have never used a jelly roll, but from the photos I see here I would LOVE to do one-then maybe more!  Love the patterns I see!!!

  • Dr. Becky Stahlman

I love the look and feel of jelly rolls, but alas I have never owned one nor made anything at all using one.
    I would love to try!!!

  • Kathleen O'Grady

What a fun and interesting book!  Would love to win a copy!  When I have a quick project I want to make I usually grab a jelly roll.  So, I think of jelly rolls as fun little rolls of fabric.

  • Kathryn Johnson

I love jelly rolls because they are ready to go for a quick project. Sometimes I need a project that is color fool proof too. Congrats on your new book collaboration.

  • Carol Portet

I love seeing all the fabric colours wound up in a jelly roll and the convenience of jumping in to make a quilt! Thx!

  • Cathy Cavagnaro

I love getting a sample of every fabric in a line. And the 2 1/2” strips are so convenient. A little starch and they are ready to use. There are so many interesting patterns in your book. I can’t wait to get started.

  • Judy Stolz

Honestly I just love the way they look; haven’t broken one open yet, but I’ll get one just to do these patterns!
