Books

Jelly Roll Chickens etc.

Who doesn’t love a jelly roll?  The whole process of cutting the fabric and rolling it amazes me, and when I have one in my hands, I love the way it looks.  If you love Jelly Rolls too you’re going to love the new Moda All-Stars book!  Moda All-Stars On Roll ships tomorrow, March 15th.  And once again the royalties from another Moda All-Stars book go to a charity.  All the royalties from On A Roll are donated to School on Wheels (SchoolOnWheels.org).

There’s everything in this book from my Jelly Roll chickens, Stacy Lest Hsu’s butterflies, to Barb & Mary’s One Roll Wonder and Sweetwater’s Square Dance.  There are 14 quilts in total!

And you might find out some things you didn’t know about each designer.  For example, Betsy Chutchian foolishly sold her 1969 yellow Ford Mustang while several states away, Joanna Figueroa was dreaming of owning one!  As for me, I’m dreaming of a new Mercedes GLE SUV in a warm taupe color.  And Sherri McConnell would like a BMW 4 Series (I’d take one too if I can’t have the Mercedes). Lisa Bongean wants a vintage white Cadillac convertible.  Who knew all these things?

Here’s the fun part! I’m giving away two of these books on Saturday, March 16th.  You could win one if you leave me a comment telling me why you love Jelly Rolls.

And if you happen to make my Jelly Roll chicken quilt, “Rule the Roost,” you’ll discover the answer to that timeless question “which came first the chicken or the egg?”.  These chicks are some pretty smart girls!

Back soon!

Anne

    Jelly Rolls are the bomb
I love them because you know all of the fabrics go together so there is no guessing with your prints and colors. If there is one special fabric in the roll that you absolutely you can buy yardage and us it as your lattice, setting squares/triangles or even your quilt back. Rolls also allow you to piece more quickly (less time cutting) so you can get on to the next beautiful fabric collection. If you’re like me it will be another jelly roll in the same collection that I just finished, but a new gorgeous pattern. Keep the jellies coming

I love jelly rolls because you can just sit down and sew without taking a lot of time for cutting. And the fabrics are coordinated so there’s no time wasted on matching fabrics!

  • Barb K

I love Jelly Rolls because of the beautiful already coordinated fabrics and the many ways of designing a quilt with them!

  • Terri W

I love jelly rolls because I can have variety without slicing up my yardage, and no one (who doesn’t quilt!) would know how relatively easy the cutting and piecing for a new project is :)

  • Carol Nelms

Looks like another great book! I don’t like jelly rolls as much as other precuts because there seems to be fewer patterns available for them. Maybe that is about to change, thanks

  • Katherine

love jelly rolls because they are so versatile – ready to make my sashings, squares for 9patches; diamonds for Lone Stars and the list goes on and on!

  • Gale

I love Jellyrolls because they are ZERO Calories, but so DELICIOUS to work with.  Instant quilt with very little effort!!  Would love to win a book to use up some jellyrolls :^)

  • Sandy Allen

I love jelly rolls because it is an easy way to get all of the fabrics in a line that coordinate together. I also like using the solid rolls for sashing because it saves me time cutting all the strips!

  • Theresa Wright

OMG I love jelly rolls.  I love how they all coordinate  and the possibilities are endless.  Would love to get this book.  Thank you

  • L K Smith

I would love to make your chicken quilt. It is just too cute! I love jelly rolls because I don’t have to cut those pesky 2 1/2” strips and they give me an entire collection of fabrics in a roll. Jelly rolls make my projects a delight. I would like be to win a book. Thanks for the contest.

  • Diane Ruby

Love jelly rolls — so versatile. I have one set aside to make a rug for my quilt room.  But now it may become a chicken quilt!! You Moda designers come up with the cutest ideas!

  • Darlene Duchaine

I absolutely love Jelly Rolls as much as I love quilting!  So many ways to create beautiful designs with less cutting.  Jelly Rolls give me the opportunity to buy and use fabrics from numerous collections!  They broaden your horizon!!

  • Ann Post

Wow!! I can’t wait to get a book. Maybe I will be one of the lucky ones. I love jelly rolls because you can quickly make a quilt with one and just as little extra yardage. Also love to display them in my quilt room. I have quite a few.

  • Rebecca S.

This book looks delightful!  I like jelly rolls because they are a relatively inexpensive way to get a variety of prints and colors.

  • Clara Chandler

Jelly Rolls give an overview of every design and color available in a fabric collection.  So many quilt patterns use the 2 1/2 inch square or strip in their design so the Jelly Roll reduces cutting time.  My collection contains 18 different Jelly Rolls and I love to see their colors on my shelves.  Thanks for the giveaway chance on the new Moda All Stars book!!

i love all your patterns. Unfortunately I buy so many that I cannot keep up. My favorite is Hennryetta Whiskers. Keep up ;the great work.

  • Janet Nykiel

I love jelly rolls because it’s one less strip I need to cut! I can get to the sewing faster!  Thanks, Anne!

  • Kathy

I love jelly rolls because you can get the whole collection of fabric in a small package and make beautiful quilts. They provide an easy way to make hundreds of accurate 2 1/2 inch squares!

  • Peggy Voorhees

Jelly rolls are great so I don’t have to do the cutting and keep the strips straight! Looking forward to see chicken pattern!

  • Brenda C

I am looking forward to seeing this book up close and personal.  I am running out of places to stash all the jelly rolls I keep buying.  They are so easy to buy, collect and work with.

  • Susan Lane

This book looks fabulous! Love the patterns, especially the chickens. The proceeds going to charity is just icing on the cake. Love jelly rolls, because they save the time of cutting. A big step in my quilt has been done for me and I can get to the fun part.

These look like such fun projects!  I love jelly rolls because there are so many ways to use them.  For me, it’s one of the most useful precuts.  How many times do I begin by cutting 2-1/2″ strips from my yardage?
Funny to hear you talk about the various cars.  For me, my favorite car I ever owned was my brand new cobalt blue VW Bug.  What memories!  I know it isn’t in the same genre as the ones you mentioned, but that one still holds a special place in my heart :)

  • Fran

I love jelly rolls. They are color coordinated already -can’t make a mistake there and are cut perfectly – so saves a lot of time. The quilts look like fun. Specially the chickens.

  • Elaine Rice

I have a FEW jelly rolls that I should do something with. The Rul the Roost  intrigued me!  I want the book.  Being a lover of chicken things that is a must for me to do!  So please, if I don’t’ get picked, I want to buy the book! The book may entice me to get back to quilting and finish up a few of the ufos in my sewing room.  I have just been walking through the room and say “Tomorrow!”

  • Sharon Colburn

I have several jelly rolls on my shelf and have been waiting to use them after I finish my UFO’s. I haven’t worked with them before and didn’t have any patterns in mind until now. The book appears to have many fun quilts by people I have been following for a long time.

  • Rose Romo-Rule

I love jelly rolls because they are already color coordinated for you!   Thank you for the chance to win!  Love your quilts!!!

  • Karen

Jelly Rolls are fun for so many reasons:  a bit of each fabric in the collection, they look marvelous stacked up, they are fun to hold and admire, and they are a quick and easy way to have nice straight strips to work with.  Your chickens look like fun to sew and also look pretty clever that you’ve made them from strips!  Way to go, Anne!

I think the book looks fantastic and know I will add it to my library. Love it when there is help for charities. I head up a quilt group at our church- we make and give quilts for many needs. Know this book will give me some great quilts for all of us to make. Thanks so much!

  • Brenda T

Hi Anne – I have several jelly rolls and would love new ideas for making quilts out of them. Looks and sounds like a great book !!!

  • Judy lawrance

I like Jellyrolls because they are sooo “sweet”  and being precut they are easy to use to make lots of “sweet” projects!  Ummm!

  • Sue

I have a cupboard full of jelly rolls..always looking for something to make using them.  Just finished my first jelly roll rug and loved the whole process and the finished rug.  Looking forward to making my next one soon.

    Hi Anne!
Ooh I’m first to comment so I probably won’t win!!
I was reluctant at first to try jelly rolls but have enjoyed them. I just hate to unroll them at first because they’re so pretty! I like them because of all of the colors in the collection –  and that’s probably so obvious – but also the fact that they’re already cut. Have a blessed day. So love your posts and your fabrics!

  • Tammy Spencer

Congrats on the new book. Sounds like an interesting charity. I am going to check it out. The patterns in the book look like fun and the stories sound interesting.
