Quilt Market

It’s A Country Fair!

Today is American Jane Day at the Fair…

Wait until you see Miss Henny Penny!

Lissa Alexander at Moda Fabrics always has creative ideas…she stores them in her head and just pulls them out when she needs one.  Amazing talent don’t you think?  She came up with the idea of the Moda Country Fair Blog Hop and then she thought up all these things for us to do!  Thanks Lissa, you are just so smart!

We’ve been talking about the Moda Country Fair for the last month around the studio and somehow Chelsea got the idea she was invited to the fair.  She’s got these big brown eyes that make it really hard to say no…

So what do you tell a Chihuahua who thinks she’s going to a country fair?  You tell her “OK, OK, you can go”!

There was no stopping her after I said that.  Chelsea wanted to be in on everything.  Everything?  OK Chelsea, Lissa thought up questions for us to answer so if you’re “in” you have to answer them too!

Question #1:   What’s your favorite fair food?

This question is way too easy for Chelsea to answer!

I hope Chelsea doesn’t tell Moda what I was really thinking when I was holding this cupcake pincushion!

Question #2:  What’s your guilty pleasure?

Something no one knows… EVERY market my friend Anne and I load up on HOT TAMALES and CANDY CORN.  We each bring several boxes and we have a sugar party the entire market.   Fall market we eat the orange candy corn and spring market we eat the pastel candy corn.  I’m addicted to these little treats and so is Anne.

…and Chelsea’s guilty pleasure?  You’re not going to believe this but it’s Broccoli with butter!

Question #3:  What’s on your bucket list?

Ha!  Is Lissa kidding?  This was way too easy for Chelsea (click on the picture to enlarge).  I swear this dog is smarter than me!  Why didn’t I think of the pink convertible?  I want one too!

Question #4:  What inspires your work?

You may not know it but Chelsea is part of the approval committee at Bunny Hill.  She likes quilts with bunnies  on them and she’s very vocal about it…she actually wanted me to design a quilt with a Chihuahua wearing bunny ears!  Oh my what am I going to do with a Chihuahua who wants bunny ears?

MY favorite thing to do for inspiration is visit the flea markets…

When I think of a Country Fair I think of a cake walk…remember those?  Since I can’t do a real cake walk,  I did a cupcake pattern so everyone can have a little cake!  You can choose from a cupcake banner or a cupcake pincushion!

And of course when you go to a country fair you’ll probably enter a raffle so let’s have one here.  You don’t have to buy a ticket but you do have to leave a comment on this post.  Here’s what we’re giving away…

3 Jelly Rolls of Puttin’ on the Ritz…a bundle of waffle cloth and satin for baby…

…and 16 wonderful Puttin’ on the Ritz scrap bags!

We’ll be picking 20 raffle prize winners!  TWENTY!!!  I’ll pick with a random number generator (Chelsea can’t be trusted to pick) and announce them on the 14th of September.  Be sure and check back!

I hope you enjoy our Moda blog hop.  Each day will bring you a new designer, more prizes and so many free patterns you’ll be jumping for joy!  Country fairs just don’t get any better than this!

Hop on over to visit Barb and Mary from Me and My Sister Designs tomorrow.  I adore these ladies and I bet you do too!

Anne

You are soooooooooo creative! Thank you for the pattern and the commentary . . . love those pups of yours. Also just want to throw in that I’ve enjoyed all of your BOMs and have made all three. I know we all appreciate the time and commitment that it has taken for you to give us those patterns for the past three years and I want to say a big THANK YOU!!! – Marlene

This cupcake pattern is just so darn cute!!! I know exactly who I am going to make this for, although I think she’ll see your post and make it for herself, darn. But I can’t wait to see your new fabric line. I will soon have my first grandchild a girl and would like to make something beautiful for her.

When I was in 4-H there was a food stand run by a German couple. She had these round dough balls that she would split in half and fill with a pie filling. She called them fat balls and I always had her fill it with lemon. Hated the name, but “oh my” loved that treat. Love the fabrics, I have lots of people I know having babies, so I could really put it to good use.

Can I just say that I need more fabric like I need another hole in my head, but I’d love to be the winner of a jelly roll. I’ve never worked with one before and this fabric looks so darn cute. Thanks for the pattern, too!

I love the cupcake pin cushion pattern! I bribe friends and family to start sewing as a hobby by making them a new pin cushion as a gift. I’m working on my fourth for the year. I also share fabric and notions as an incentive so I would definately share if I was lucky enough to win some. Thanks!

  • Dorian

I love these blog hops! They are so much fun. I, too, enjoy Hot tamales. And I would love to win that bundle, as I have a ‘bundle’ of my own due in April, and this would make perfect baby quilts and such! Thank you for a fun post.

What a very cute post! I especially loved your dog’s bucket list. You must have spent a lot of time putting it together. Thanks because it gave me several chuckles.

I have to go with the fried dough people here. My mom used to make that at home too with some bits from dough when she made bread. Either cinnamon/sugar or maple syrup makes them sooooooo yummy. Now I’m hungry.

Thx for all the wonderful prizes and the pattern.

  • Bronwyn

Thanks for the divine pattern, just what I need for some up and coming events. I loved getting Fairy Floss ( cotton candy to you) at our fairs, yummo.

  • Joyce Mitchell

It’s been a long time since I’ve had fair food. I think fried dough was my favorite. I love your dogs! Thanks for the giveaway.

  • Kathy

Well, I love the idea of a raffle, and such a sweet one it is. I’m not such a lucky lady but I keep trying….one of these days I’m going to hit it big!!! Maybe this is the one!!!! Be blessed.
