The Yellow House

This was one of those houses that just made me swoon.  If you visit the Cotswolds in England, and you drive the country roads you might find it.  It has to be one of a kind and the story of the house will remain a mystery.  I’m not sure I could find it again;  too many country roads going in too many directions.   I wanted so much to know the history.  Who lives here  and how many families have lived here before them?  How old is the house?  Has it always been the palest of yellows?  What stories can it tell, this beauty of a house!

I spent Saturday with this house, but only in the studio.  I drew it for applique only to find out I couldn’t capture it’s beauty in fabric!  I tried for a full day, but the house remains elusive.  A house this grand must want to remain in the Cotswolds.   I love every  detail of this house, so maybe I’ll try again someday when I have the palest of yellow fabrics.

Of course all of this leads to another clue.

Here’s the clues so far, with the new one in red:

1.  Christmas with some pieced blocks

2.  A little bit of snow

3.  A tiny bit of pink in the quilt, 5″ x 5″ or smaller.

4.  The fabric I’m using is” Le Petie Ecole” from Kaari, the French General!

5.  I said in an earlier post that there’s a critter in the quilt that I like to draw almost as much as a bunny!

6.  There’s a house in the quilt, and its set on snow.

I do have some good guessers.   You know who you are!

Have a great Monday everyone!

 Anne

My guess is that the ‘house’ is a little school house and the critter is a squirrel. I guess that the quilt will be centered around squirrels heading off to the little school house in winter time. ;0

Well I think the critter is a squirrel. The house on snow would either be a gingerbread house or decorated english home like the one in your picture. The pink has me stumped. You use pink for accesories or background/sashing. the letters, what would those be for? hmmmmmm, more hints please

Happy Sunday! I am going to make one more suggestion….Has anyone hinted at a hedgehog? ..Love them, especially the photo of one on your pet gallery. I do not know how one would do a hedgehog other than perhaps embroidery…hmmm You really have us stumped here.

Anne, just wanted to let you know you have been in my thoughts. Hoping all is okay as we haven’t heard from you for a bit. Of course, in my earlier brain fog, I may have missed a post that said you would be away too. All the same, Hugs coming your way…

I’m still thinking it’s vintage Christmas ornaments — that fabric just looks like old European style — and Christmas is all about lambs — or maybe Henrietta Whiskers will make an appearance on this quilt!

A little house set on snow with two turtle doves cooing, a pink heart; three French hens; a little mouse in the house with pink ears; using the fabric with letters for toys; the other fabrics for pieced house blocks in Christmas colors; and other appliques of birds, squirrel, bunny, and red plaid for the Scotty dog. mlwright29 (at) hotmail (dot) com

This is very tough Anne. I haven’t heard from you so must mean my two previous guesses were wrong. Ok, how about a Christmas Cottage Quilt?

I can’t wait until you announce it and we get to see it.

I’m on block 6 of Autumn Houses….loving it!!

Because “Christmas” hasn’t arrived yet & there’s another hint, I’m going to try again & submit another guess! Perhaps there’s a reindeer or two & the theme for the new block of the month is something like “over the river & thru the woods to grandmother’s house we go!” Is that jingle bells that I hear? On, this is just so much fun!!

I love this house. I want to live there. It is beautiful! I think your new Christmas quilt will have many cottages, and stars and birds. Wouldn’t that be lovely?

    Cotswolds Country Christmas…
I had a friend who lived in England & the pictures you all show ~ appear to be like from a post card, rambling streams, Old inn’s, wonderful faded colors inside… But..I am the worst at these games…?
