Paris Mode

I’m in the Paris mode judging from the guesses coming in for my new Block of the Month!  You have me wishing for a pink, French Christmas quilt! Ahh, how many of you would really buy a pink Christmas quilt?  Sale of one pattern to Bunny Hill but the rest of you?   Well you saw the fabric I’m using in my last post and I’m in more of a universal mode, but I’m always dreaming of Paris…

I loved Paris and  I would return in a minutes’ notice just for a chance to browse the flea markets for treasures!  Anyone ready for a Paris treasure hunt?  I actually looked up costs online today for next year.  I’m hooked don’t you think?

I paid 10 Euros for this card of vintage Mother of Pearl buttons. It was a bargain.   I would have paid more, I loved them so much.  I’m not good at bargaining.  I hate it, but I made myself ask if they would take less in my most French sounding English.  At the same vendor I paid 25 Euros for one button. The bargaining didn’t work at all.  I really wanted that button from 1880 and so I paid the money.   Can’t show it to you now because I’ll be using it for something in the spring.  You’ll appreciate it more when you see it.

As for that  5″ square of pink in my block of the month?   Try looking at some of my other block of the months to see how I’ve used “pink”!  Do you think I’ve used the entire square or do you think maybe I cut it up?

Guess what?  We have a few correct guesses in the contest already!  If you guess right you’ll get an email confirming that you’ve been entered in the contest.

Quilt shops can email me directly for the “La Petite Ecole” fabric sku’s I’ve used.

One more question for today.  How many of you have Facebook pages and why?  I’ve been visiting Facebook and I’m not sure I “get it”.   Do you actually  use Facebook?   Do you use it every day?

Back soon!

Anne

could it be all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse??

I do use facebook, but am a lurker 90%of the time. great to see what friends are up to though.

  • Kim

No facebook for me…seen to many problems.

I can’t wait to see the 35.00 button!
As always……your blog is a great place to visit :0)

    Happy Sewing

Ok, I’m guessing the critter that you like to “draw almost as much as bunnies” will be a squirrel. You already have a “vintage” christmas. I think it would be fun to have a BOM of places Squirrels hide their acorns. You do use pink for back grounds and little spots throughout. Christmas in Manhattan would be a hoot. That would be hard and they certainly don’t have houses there. Maybe a house made of christmas blocks.

Ohhhhh, this is so difficult! I’m still thinking 12 days of (something) but maybe that’s not right…

How about ‘Christmas in Europe’ with either a traditional English thatched cottage or an elegant Parisian apartment block in the snow? With a selection of European wildlife – using the pink for noses and the insides of ears? Or maybe the pink is for a house/cottage… And maybe there’s no European connection at all!

Facebook – love it as a means of keeping in touch with friends throughout the world but get slightly ‘freaked’ when strangers ask to be my friend. Quite happy with the 30 or so friends I have…

I love Facebook. I can message old friends I haven’t seen since high school & see cute pictures of my great niece & nephew or see what my DD’s friend is up to in the Phillipines. Link my blog posts so my FB friends can see what I’m up to there. (Check out Monica of Happy Zombie fame on FB.) I like that it’s usually just a quick sentence or 2. Some of my more “high tec” FB friends use their Blackberry phones to take pictures & comment on their FB pages. Just make sure you have the “privacy settings” all set so that your information is only shared with your FB friends. The best FB story, a 70+ year old relative of mine accidentally called it FaceSpace! Combining Facebook & My Space! LOL

You’re killing me here. Haha…… 12 Days of Christmas!! Or if really universal as to the fabric choices…. An American in Paris. So much fun!

  • Julia

Anne, those oval buttons are just so adorable! I’m not good at bargaining either…and always end up with the feeling that I’ve been short-changed…well, I guess that’s inevitalbe.
Oh my…I always knew I was bad in guessing…but this riddle…I feel so dumb ;o).
    Have a wonderful day,
    Julia

I have a face book page but do not use it. I don’t really get it and it’s confusing…email is easier. Maybe I need more friends:) I have to guess again on your BOM quilt…..could it be…………… vintage christmas ornaments? But, they would have more pink and and some other colors too? The fabric is beautiful and I can’t wait to see what it is!! Maybe it’s children and a one room schoolhouse theme? I think I need more clues. hugs.

    Hi Anne,

    Okay, I’ll try another guess.

How about the Night Before Christmas American style. Cookies in front of the fireplace on a table with Santa about to come down the chimney.

If not that, then how about 12 items that mean Christmas such as cookies, a drum, a toy, an ornament, etc. on the quilt.

I don’t get face book either and I did join when some friends encouraged me to but I found it rather scary with people wanting to be my friend and I didn’t know who they are. I enjoy the blogs I go to and I find that I spend enough time on them without facebook to. I don’t know how people find time to quilt when they are on facebook or twitter and I am rather private. Each to their own.

“A Wee Tot’s Christmas” – full of toys with “ABC blocks” that have letters stacked spelling Christmas and images of cute animals (like b for bunny, a for angel, l for lamb). That’s this guess.

Forgot to share with you my Facebook experiences. I have been on Facebook for a few months now. I joined thru a quilt shop to receive quilt hints etc. I had no idea it can access one’s email list. Kind of creeped me out that Facebook started showing me photos of my friends and family already on Facebook. My 24 year old daughter friended me before she left on a month backpack adventure to Germany. This would be a great way to keep in touch… Well her second week involved having her wallet and passport stolen from her Hostel in Poland. We learned that Western Union really works! My husband and I had the pleasure of the 6am Sunday morning call of a crying daughter who at least was able to say “You told me so” as she did not lock up here belongings in spite of our advise. While spending our Sunday cancelling her cards and emailing back and forth with her, I told her to please not let this mishap get to her Grandparents ears until she returned home as they were already worried enough about her. On Monday, she posts on her Facebook “got robbed in Poland” Well who responds but my cousins on both my mom and dad’s side and my daughter’s cousins on my husband’s side. It is only a matter of minutes before this story would work its way thru cyberspace and telephone lines and fall in the grandparents laps. I was so angry I thought I would pop. I then spent the entire afternoon doing damage control, calling and emailing cousins and an aunt or two. We were able to contain the mishap until her return. I saved the folks weeks of worry and aged myself a couple of years. Moral of the story if you want to get any info out to lots of people fast? Go Facebook!! Extremely effective! I have not friended my other 2 kids as I DO NOT want to hear all about their adventures. The language used by young adults to each other is not meant for my eyes/ears. Yikes. Several nieces have friended me and last weekend I got to have 5 minutes of fear upon reading that my niece was at the truck race out in Lucerne, CA where 8 people were killed. SHe called me as soon as I facebooked her and she was only 25 yards from the accident but fortunately watching safely from up on a hill. It is an incredible communication tool and I have connected with various friends and family. However is all this information necessary or healthy for my nervous system?? To be determined!! Get Facebook, get tough!
May I guess again on the quilt? Is it the nativity scene with sheep which might be another of your favorite animals and a little pink baby Jesus? A “creche” which would be in keeping with the French theme?
Have a nice rest of the weekend! Would have loved to sent you pictures of my pets..I am the gal with the cat with the messed up head, the dog with the bad tummy and the now wisdomtoothless son. However I have not yet learned how to do that on the computer. My kids are my tech support so I will try to get a few lessons before they blast off to college again. I LOVED all the photos. You can check out a couple of photos on my facebook album and see my grey cat Elliot inspecting my layout of my Buttons and Bows quilt. I love that pattern of yours and have made several! Of course it took my daughter to get those photos on for me…Someday I will be a techno wiz..yeah right!

I have facebook, but do not use it as I feel it does not offer ebough privacy or security. I hear that the young people use it, and some do not usr it kindly. They say businesses should have a page?

  • SewLindaAnn

Okay, 3rd try here. Is it a old fashioned animal or animal farm Christmas theme, or could it be simply a old fashioned bunny Christmas theme? or maybe an old fashioned Christmas with all YOUR Bunny Hill critters?

I went off Facebook, all those additional internet options can keep you from living your real life if you don’t watch out. There’s almost too much that’s interesting and it can draw you in for hours.

Can’t wait to see the button project.

  • Trina Christenson

The buttons are wonderful. Yes, I do Facebook – helps to keep up with my kids and many of my friends. I just make sure my personal stuff is well guarded!

Christmas Bells and sleighs! Could that be the BOM this time? Or Maybe Christmas Stars and Woodland Critters? Or maybe Christmas Stars and Nativity! Will be looking for that next clue. :)

  • KatieQ

I’m starting to think of bunnies at Christmas in the snow. I bet that pink would be just right for a bunny nose or the inside of an ear.
I don’t get Facebook either. I joined with a made up name so that I could look at the pictures my cousin posts of her children. I know several of our family members (not my children) are addicted to it. I’m usually out of step with the rest of the world. This is just one more thing that does not translate to my mind.

  • Martine

    Hi Anne,
I am not on Facebook but don’t miss it. Surfing on blogs and exchanging e-mails is enough.
My suggestion for the next BOM : maybe Santa’s workshop in the faraway Lapland. That would include Santa’s elves, sacks full of toys, the children’s addresses, Santa’s wife packing Santa’s luggage, Rudolph and its fellow-reinder…
Well, easier to say an write than to make, but considering how talented you are, I am sure you would meet no obstacle.
    Have a good day Anne,
    Martine – FRANCE

Oh Anne, these buttons are the perfect vintage pink! I can’t stand it!! Any time I find anything in this color, I just have to buy it! I think 10 Euros was a bargain, and I’m sure the 1880 button was worth the price, too. If you wanted it and you love it, it was worth it :-)
Ok, back to this guessing…maybe a Christmas story like
A Christmas Carol, or The Night Before Christmas (visions of sugarplums), or The Nutcracker, or 12 Days of Christmas?
Or cute critters w/ pink noses? pink hearts? pink ribbons?
Or an old fashioned Christmas scene or village?
    I’m running out of guesses!!

  • Cynthia

    Hmmmm…

When I see the fabrics I keep thinking of an an old flag (red, blue, cream) waving outside a house or little one room country school house in a snowy outdoorsy Christmas theme.

The other thought I had was red and blue birds on a snowy/creamy background.

Or teddy bears with little pink noses with little vests or bows.

I’m hungry right now so I’m also thinking Christmas cookies though I don’t know how the blue would look for cookies so how about vintage red and blue Christmas ornaments on a creamy background.

    This is fun!

As far as Facebook, no I don’t have an account and don’t follow it. I’m a working mother raising two teenage children. Don’t have the time (games will pull you in…) and when I created a test account all of their friends wanted to “friend” me. I kept seeing stuff from their generation I didn’t need to see. :-)

for the mystery quilt – letters to Santa? or maybe Santa’s naughty and nice lists? christmas lists in general?

i don’t use facebook – i had a page for a couple of weeks, but after the fifth email from people (men) i went to high school with forty years ago asking me if i was the OTHER Dianne, i got rid of it (the other Dianne was VERY popular with the b-o-y-s)
