Chelsea and the red chair
The one thing I wasn’t prepared for after losing Milkshake was how it would affect my Chelsea dog. It’s been hard to watch. She’s depressed, I have no doubt about it. On our walks to the park, she just sniffs the air and looks around. I know she’s looking for her friend. The vet told me it could take as long as several months for her to get past this. So I’ve used the advice I give to others. Get out of the house, go visit friends, walk in different places and find new adventures. It’s helped me and it may be helping Chelsea. She liked today’s adventure to the Farmer’s Market…

Milkshake Sutton
We said goodbye to Milkshake today. She died in my arms, wrapped in a soft blanket. She was 14 1/2 and had congestive heart failure, although, in the end, it wasn’t her heart that got her, it was kidney failure. She defied the cardiologist when he told her she had 4 months to live in June of, 2015. I know she didn’t like him much anyway so she remained in the care of her regular vet who is anything but “regular”. Today, when we said goodbye, her vet cried as much as we did. I’m so blessed to have had this dog as a part of our lives. She brought love and…

Make a List for 2018!
Chelsea and I each made a bucket list back in 2011, and I found a copy of it today. Six years later and we haven’t completed much on our list. Chelsea’s still waiting for her pink convertible, and I’m still trying to organize my photos. The beautiful thing about this list is that it’s New Year’s Eve and we have another full year to complete it! I told her I think we need to review and set more realistic goals for 2018. She keeps reminding me that she’s getting older and wants to update her list with things like a fluffy new bed. She’s been lounging around today watching me fill…

Almost Christmas
Can you believe Christmas 2017 is almost here? I’ve done some simple decorating in my studio this year consisting of one little ruler tree. :>) Simple, yes, but isn’t it perfect for a sewing studio? The tree is only 13″ from top to bottom. There’s a reason my decorating is so simple this year… His name’s Sylvester. It’s his first Christmas, and he’s fascinated with everything! He’s sure I’ve done this just for him. Can you imagine Christmas through the eyes of an 8-month-old kitten? One thing for sure…those eyes won’t be on any vintage mercury glass ornaments this year… If he can see it with his eyes, his paws are sure to follow. …

Milkshake Update
When I look back over the past week, I can’t believe we’ve made it through. Thursday of last week I took Milkshake back to the vet convinced it was time to say goodbye. She was so weak, she hadn’t eaten in 4 days, and she could hardly walk. Our vet said to let her have one more day to see if the new drugs would start working. By Friday, when I took her back to the vet, I had some hope. She was a little more alert when the vet came into the room. We decided to let her go through the weekend. On Saturday I was desperate for her to eat,…

For The Love of a Dog
I posted this picture and story about Milkshake on Instagram last July, but in case you missed it here it is again… “The love from this old dog has taught me so much: It knows no end, it has no limit and it will always be there. She’s my senior rescue (13) and she has congestive heart failure. We’ve known about her heart since July 2014 and she’s still with me. I don’t think her heart has finished teaching me yet.” I have the hardest time writing about her on this blog. Somehow if I write about it here, it will make it come true. I’m not rational when it…
