Block Nine Merry Merry Snow Days
Every block in my Merry Merry Snow Days quilt has a story, and block nine is no exception. This little snowgirl (You knew she was a girl when you saw her pink collar, right?) went out into the woods to pick out a Christmas tree for the cabin in block four! Thank goodness she found one already bundled and ready to go. All she had to do was put it on the sleigh. Now she can push it up to the cabin, and I’m sure someone will be there to help her inside with it. The tree will look so pretty in the window.
Ok, let’s start block nine and cut and sew together the backgrounds for this block. This is another easy block, and once you’re prepared the applique pieces, the rest will go fairly quick.
The two tall skinny trees use the 1/4″ bias, and they are each centered on their backgrounds. Place the finished bottom (turn ends under) of the tree trunks 3/4″ up from the bottom raw edge of the block.
Place the snowgirl and the sack over the pattern and trace the sack string, eyes, and button marks onto the snowgirl and sack. Position the remaining applique on the background following the pattern carefully. The snowgirl is 3/4″ up from the bottom raw edge of the block, and the bottom of the sled is 1″ up. Pin or glue-baste applique in position, then place block back over pattern and trace the snowgirl’s arms and the ends of the sack string onto the background. Use a ruler to trace the snowgirl’s arms. Once you’ve completed the applique, you can finish up the embroidery!
Are you excited? We’re moving onto block 10 next! It’s the last block in the quilt!
