Lucy’s Stitched Hugs
There’s a 10-year-old girl in Washington who’s touching so many people with her kindness and generosity I thought you might enjoy reading about her. Her name is Lucy and she calls her project Lucy’s Stitched Hugs. Lucy’s mom recently wrote to me to tell me about Lucy:
“My daughter Lucy is a girl with a big idea and an even bigger heart. Last year when she was just 9 years old she started a project she calls “Lucy’s Stitched Hugs”. She made 105 quilts, 54 stuffed animals, and 30 large pocket pillows! All of these were donated to a local organization that helps homeless families attain housing and stability. As you can imagine, this was a pretty expensive project.
Her goal is to continue making stitched hugs for Second Step Housing. If your company would like to support her project, she is always in need of supplies, and they would go to great use. She has two of your petite patterns (Allie and Henrietta squirrel) and just loves sewing them. They are very popular with the kids, and I wondered if you would consider donating some of the other petite patterns for her project.”
Of course, I was delighted to donate some Petite Patterns to Lucy! We get a lot of requests for donations, but this one I knew was special. Lucy’s mom linked me to Lucy’s Facebook page, an article in her local paper and a video from her local news. It wasn’t until I read through these that I realized Lucy has Autism!
If you’d like to find out more about Lucy’s project, you can read an article in her local newspaper published on the front page about her on Christmas Eve 2017:

Lucy needs supplies, and if you’d like to donate, these are the items she is in most need of:
Large pieces of batting
Cotton fabric, cuddle fabric, fleece, flannel (1/4 yard or larger pieces)
Jelly rolls and pre-cut squares
Pillow forms
No-Sew fleece throw kits
Please only send sewing fabrics and sewing supplies you know you would love to receive. When you give with your heart, the joy returns to you twofold.
Email me or leave a comment asking for her address if you think you can donate and I’ll email you back.

If Lucy has enough room for more quilt fabric, I’d love her address. I also have some duplicate notions.
