When the husband becomes a designer

My husband’s a car nut.  A real honest to goodness car nut, because he says he’s owned and sold about 75 old cars over his lifetime (I picture him at the age of 7 buying and selling).  I tell him I wish we had the money he’s put into restoring all those cars, and he tells me he wishes we had all the money I’ve spent on fabric.  Some things are best left unsaid.

I don’t give him much input on a quilt, because it can lead us down dangerous paths.  But, when I needed a car expert for “Christmas Wheels” I turned to him.  He spent days working on car drawings for me and I spent days trying to simplify his drawings for embroidery.  I kept reminding him that we really didn’t need all the spark plugs, dip sticks, carburetors and assorted car parts that I didn’t even recognize.  I have to admit I erased a few things and never told him.

The end result of this design adventure is “Christmas Wheels”.  There are cars for the men, snowmen for the ladies, and lots of fun for all the quilters!

If you pre-ordered a “Christmas Wheels” kit from us, we’ll be shipping them as soon as the fabric arrives.  Moda’s shipped the Jelly Rolls and Charm Packs.  Fabric will be shipped next.

Here’s what happens when your husband becomes a designer…he suddenly notices the number of Christmas Wheels sold.  When the pattern he helped design starts outselling the others, he doesn’t say a word.  Not a word.   I tell you my husband is a very smart man.

“Christmas Wheels” is one of my Postcard Cuties patterns and that guarantees it will be quick to assemble…once you finish embroidering those car bodies.  Start your engines everyone!  Soon you’ll be at the finish line.  :>)

Hugs,

Anne

You’ve done it again and with the help of a supportive husband. My DH is spot on when it comes to colors and he is my go to guy when I can’t decide. Barbie has a terrific idea in having your husband design a quilt for men with vintage cars. My husband can name the year and model of any car you show him. We have the money spent on golf and the money spent on fabric, but ’nuff said. On the car quilt it would have to have a bunny or two for sure.

This is very cute but I’d love, love, love a pattern with a lot of vintage cars or “muscle cars”! Something we could use to make quilts for the guys in our lives with a more masculine flair. I predict it would be a great seller and your husband just might have a new hobby designing blocks a guy would like!
