• Quilter’s Home Magazine Comes to Visit!

Back in March of this year, Quilter’s Home Magazine sent out a photo stylist and photographer to take pictures of my home and studio.  Gregory Case and his wife Elena, work together as a team.  I’ve known them for years so it was a fun photo shoot, and of course their pictures are wonderful! Pick up the current issue (August/September) of “Quilter’s Home” and you’ll see the fabulous job the editors at Quilter’s Home did.  You’ll find out what my favorite cookie is, AND why I have this Goose Feather Farm sign in my studio, along with other tidbits you might not know about me. I used the photo shoot to get my husband to complete all the projects I’ve had on my…

  • Stumbling Blocks

Life has a way of throwing in a few stumbling blocks every now and then just to see if we can get past them.  This past week has been so chaotic I’m here to report I’m not doing very well.  I’m falling over blocks! My old dog, Bitsy hurt her back leg.   She was walking outside and suddenly jumped in pain.  She’s been to the vet, had x-rays, medication and they think she pulled something.  Nothing shows on the x-ray, but she still won’t walk. Instead, she barks for me to carry her everywhere.  Bark, I want to go outside,  I’m thirsty, I’d like a treat, can you fix me dinner? She seems perfectly happy, and even wants to play with her toys.  If…

  • Alyssa’s New Pincushion

Last week I started teaching my youngest grand-daughter Alyssa to embroider.  We spent a couple of hours together with me sitting right next to her.  She had my full attention and loved it!  This weekend she came over to finish her first project.  There’s a lot to embroidery you probably don’t even think about!  Alyssa’s learned the quilter’s knot, how to thread a needle, which end of the thread to put through the needle, how to put the embroidery in a hoop and how to end her embroidery when she runs out of thread.  These are big steps for an 8 year old. She’s pretty proud of her results! We’ve been working…

  • I have a new family!

It’s possible to have two families and be very, very happy!  I have two families and I can’t stop smiling!  When I saw this ad in “Quilter’s Newsletter Magazine”  I started that “pinch me now” thing I have going.  I’ll never get used to the excitement of joining the wonderful  Moda family!  I’m keeping the ad around so that when my “first” family gives me trouble I can hold it up and threaten to go live with my “second” family.   There must be a little space in that huge Moda warehouse of fabric I could “room” in.  Or, maybe I could live in the room of vintage textiles I’ve heard about.    One can…

  • Thatched Roofs and so much more!

When I remember the Cotswolds, I’ll think of two lane country roads, rolling green hills, thatched roof cottages, small villages, grazing sheep on hillsides, English country gardens with cobblestone paths and wonderful little pubs with great food and friendly people. I left a piece of my heart in the Cotswolds. We rented a car, and once we got used to driving on the opposite side of the road, we were off to the countryside!  We spent 3 wonderful days getting to know the area.  We stayed at a bed and breakfast called Gowers Close and it was absolutely charming!  The building is from the 1600’s and still exists in its…

  • Happy 4th of July!

Surprise!  It’s July 4th and I’m in the mood to celebrate! Here’s block seven of  “Snowbound” a day early, just in case you have time to sew today in-between barbecues and fireworks!  Just click on “Free” on the top bar of my blog, scroll down the page and you’ll find the pattern! My “Snowbound” quilt just came back from Lynne my quilter and it’s ready for the pretty red binding.  All of my embellishments were stitched on ahead of time so I could take photos, so Lynne had to quilt “around” them. This wasn’t easy and she went above and beyond for me.   She deserves extra applause!  Can’t wait…
