Weekend Projects

Do you have projects planned for this weekend?  Seems like I’ve been waiting for a “free” weekend and now that it’s here I’m in heaven.  I have so many projects I’ve wanted to get started on so I plan on sewing all weekend long.  Speaking of sewing, it’s a great weekend to try a Scrappy Plate quilt block if you haven’t started yet.  Once you make one, you’ll see how easy it is!  Just go for it!

I’ve been working on the applique for my Scrappy Plate quilt, taking pictures as I go along so I can hopefully give you some tips next month.  I don’t know which part I like better, the piecing or the applique.  Click on over to my Flickr group if you want to get inspired!

So many of you emailed asking about kits for Scrappy Plates.  Well guess what?  Kimberly at Fat Quarter Shop has been searching for fabrics and she’s found all the fabrics I’ve used in my quilt.  She’s put together a kit for you with the same polka dot fabrics and borders. You can find it by clicking on the link above.

New wool bundles…

If you love yummy wools, I’ve just added our own special bundles of Weeks Dye Works wools to our website.  After we made these bundles everyone at Bunny Hill wanted one!

Say hello to our Autumn bundle…

…and hello to our Sorbet bundle.

I’d say it’s equally as yummy as Autumn!

You’ll find these bundles  here on our website.

We’re still working on getting orders shipped from our sale.  We ran out of Cosmo Multiwork Floss #4300 and Dresden templates but we’ve had them both on order.  The templates just arrived and the floss should be here by the middle of next week.  Thank you for your patience if you’ve ordered floss…I promise we’ll ship your order as soon as it arrives!

Have a great weekend everyone!   Hopefully it’s filled with happy sewing!

Hugs,

Anne

Just a few squirrely friends

We all have a few squirrely friends don’t we?  Ha!  Right now all my friends are wondering if I consider them squirrely.  The dictionary defines squirrely (yes it’s slang) as being eccentric, flighty and maybe a bit odd.

Think about this…Henrietta doesn’t see a thing wrong with being squirrely.  Most of her friends are squirrely and so this month I’m giving a new meaning to the word!

squir-rel-y: -adjective, fun loving and full of joy.  Able to leap tall pumpkins in a single bound.   The perfect friend.

Block Six:  Henrietta’s Squirrely Friends

We’re 2/3rds through the quilt with this block not counting the border…have you been keeping up?  Is this your first try at using wool in applique?  How do you like it?

I had so much fun with the wool I can see playing around with it might be in my future!  I bought some Robin’s Egg blue and creamy white wool at market that I love.  Add a ball of Valdani Pearl Cotton and I’m ready to stitch!

Now I just need to dream up a project…

Hope you all enjoy making block six of Henrietta Whiskers!

Hugs,

Anne

Happy April 5th!

Can you believe it’s April 5th? It’s Henrietta Whiskers day here at Bunny Hill!  I have a drop in class today for Henrietta Whiskers at In-Between Stitches in Livermore, California.   The nicest group of ladies attend and today I’m doing a demo on machine applique.

Have you tried machine applique using DMC machine embroidery 50 wt. thread?  It’s so much fun, and of course really, really fast!  If you don’t have the DMC thread see if you have any Mettler 60wt. and then click on my tutorial section.  You’ll find a simple “how to” for machine applique.

We’ll be using machine applique a lot during the next few weeks in order to finish my market quilts.    I’ll have lots of help and maybe a few sewing parties coming up.  Wish you could all come!

Go ahead, enlarge the photo below and you’ll see how amazing machine applique with cotton thread can be!  Once the quilting is complete you won’t be able to see the stitches at all!  I can’t wait to show you!  Of course the cotton thread gives it a wonderful “feel”.   My friend Anne Bryson over at Cottons ‘n Wool does lots of machine applique for Bunny Hill and she’s amazing!  She uses the magnifying glass on her Bernina and takes her stitch down as small as it will go!

You go Anne B!

Henrietta and Sophie love you!

If you didn’t already know I’m updating my blog over the next few months.  I’ve had such a problem with slooooooooness, and now just when I think that problem is solved other glitches have come up. It’ll  be worth it in the end.   I’m adding some surprises that I can’t wait to share!  Should have everything worked out by the middle of June!  June?  Did I say June?  Oh my gosh, it’s right around the corner!

Get quilting everyone!  Henrietta’s waiting!

Hugs,

Anne

Hello September!

It’s September 5th and if you read my newsletter today you know that we have 2 winners in the “I Love My Pet” contest!  What an exciting end to a wonderful month!

Congratulations Franklin & Terry!

Terry give Franklin a hug.  He won you a great first prize!

Then, drum roll please….

We also gave out a second prize!

Chelsea loves kids and she thought this picture was the cutest ever! So we added a second place prize for Ronnie and his best friend Jack!  Alyssa, Ronnie’s mom, submitted this photo and I think you’ll agree it’s a winner!

Speaking of winners, I had a dickens of a time trying to get Chelsea to pick one.  Truth be told I think she was a bit intimidated by the rabbit.   She was not about to put her paws up on that bunny.   The star of Bunny Hill has a mind of her own!

I even tried Bitsy and Mooch.  No luck at all!

I’m surrounded by pets at Bunny Hill and not one would co-operate!

Life is never dull around here! I had to go to a a random number drawing instead!

And now to bring our pet contest to a close, I have one more photo for you.  Meet “Sis” who belongs to Bernice, a special customer.  She sent us this darling photo in the mail.  Thank you Bernice for taking the time to share Sis with us!  She is adorable!  Love that little pink tongue!

This Pet contest been so much fun!  Thank you again to each and everyone!

And now are you ready for a bit more quilting?

It’s Snowbound Time!

Block Eight of Snowbound is ready to go!

If you’ve been keeping up with the Snowbound blocks, your quilt should be looking something like this:

Don’t jump ahead and look at block number ten! You didn’t really think I’d show it to you did you? You’ll have to wait until October!.  Three more blocks to go! It’s not too late if you haven’t already started!

New Notion!

I love notions and I love to share my favorite ones with you.  I tried this Omnigrid little rotary cutter when I was preparing the templates for my new block of the month.   Smooth templates mean smooth applique!  I fell in love with it.

Any drawing with a straight line, or a slightly curved edge can be cut accurate and smoothly with this little cutter.  It gives you great control and  the blade is pressure sensitive.  It retracts when you lift up the cutter!

Try it when cutting templates for houses, doors, windows, presents, etc. Use a ruler to guide you and cut away!  Then try cutting a curved piece by pressing down on the ruler and turning the template.   You’ll find it here on my web site and I think you’ll love it!

Tiny Town on Sale!

And don’t forget, Tiny Town is on sale this month for 25% off.  This applies to my wholesale customers also!  If you haven’t purchased this quilt, now is the time to do it!

Have a great weekend everyone!  Hope you get a lot of sewing done!
