Henrietta’s Big Party!

Can you believe this is the final block for Henrietta Whiskers?   Henrietta’s excited and a little bit nervous too.  It’s not everyday that a little squirrel gets to meet so many people!  I don’t think either of us ever imagined she would be so popular. I’m giving you block nine and the final quilt a day in advance!  If you’re spending this holiday weekend sewing,  you might have time to finish the quilt and have it ready to hang for Fall!

Henrietta Whiskers Block Nine

Henrietta’s busy catching stars and Sophie’s helping!

And now that you’re finishing up your quilt (you are finishing aren’t you?) you’re probably wondering what I’ve done to that top and bottom strip!  I’ve had your trust all year and you’ve followed me blindly so to speak, so I’m excited to finally show you the entire quilt.  Click on the photo and it will enlarge it.

You’ll find the pattern for block nine along with the finishing instructions, by clicking on the free tab at the top of my blog.

…As We Come to the end of My Henrietta Block of the Month…

…I’ve been struggling trying to find a balance in my life between designing fabric, patterns, quilt markets, family, pets, traveling and oh yes, I forgot me!  Block of the month quilts take so much time to create and I know  you understand how crazy life can get.  I’ve made the difficult decision that Henrietta will be my last free block of the month. I know I’ll be disappointing many of you but I hope you’ll understand.  I have LOTS of fun things up my sleeve that I think you’ll enjoy so please don’t think the fun will end.  New surprises are in the planning stages!

New things added to my website!

You’ll find new floss and notions under “What’s New” on my website.  We are now carrying Cosmo Sparkles Floss and because we’ve gotten so many requests, for a limited time  I’ve  added Cosmo Seasons color #8041.  It’s in stock now and ready to ship!

and…Help me clean our our sample room!

We are filled to the brim and need to make room so you’ll find some great buys on samples and quilts from our patterns! I just listed more on my website.

How many people does it take to make a quilt?

In the case of Raining Cats & Dogs it took 13 people to finally get the pattern ready to ship!  I’m sending BIG hugs and a thank you to everyone who helped me with this quilt: To my husband who’s spent days listening to me go on and on about how it might never get done, to Lissa at Moda who worked miracles in getting me fabric, to Lisa who spent hours helping me with all the graphics, to Anne, Dee, Tina, Sandy, Melissa, and Pauline who helped with the sewing, applique and embroidery in record time, to Lynne who worked wonders with her fabulous quilting, to Florence who’s spent hours preparing this pattern for print, to Nancy who’s proofed it with her magical red pen, to Greg who photographed it with his artistic skills, and finally to Karl who will collate and package this pattern for me next week!

Did you ever imagine it could take so many people?  I couldn’t have done it without them!

This pattern will be ready to ship next week!  Here are some closeups of the blocks…finally!

Look at the little hearts that Lynne quilted in-between the dogs in Block One!

Just a few squirrely friends

We all have a few squirrely friends don’t we?  Ha!  Right now all my friends are wondering if I consider them squirrely.  The dictionary defines squirrely (yes it’s slang) as being eccentric, flighty and maybe a bit odd.

Think about this…Henrietta doesn’t see a thing wrong with being squirrely.  Most of her friends are squirrely and so this month I’m giving a new meaning to the word!

squir-rel-y: -adjective, fun loving and full of joy.  Able to leap tall pumpkins in a single bound.   The perfect friend.

Block Six:  Henrietta’s Squirrely Friends

We’re 2/3rds through the quilt with this block not counting the border…have you been keeping up?  Is this your first try at using wool in applique?  How do you like it?

I had so much fun with the wool I can see playing around with it might be in my future!  I bought some Robin’s Egg blue and creamy white wool at market that I love.  Add a ball of Valdani Pearl Cotton and I’m ready to stitch!

Now I just need to dream up a project…

Hope you all enjoy making block six of Henrietta Whiskers!

Hugs,

Anne

Spring Quilt Market 2011

Oh my goodness, what a whirlwind the last week has been. I met so many wonderful people and saw so many beautiful quilts.  I’m in awe of it all!  Hugs, hugs, and more hugs;  I think that’s what quilt market is about!  Salt Lake City I miss you already, but I have to say it feels good to be home.  The greeting committee that met me at the front door today made sure I was covered in wet sloppy kisses in no time at all. I got a hug and a kiss from my husband too, but there’s nothing like dog kisses mixed with a little cat fur!

Speaking of dogs and cats, I can finally show you REAL pictures of my newest block of the month Raining Cats and Dogs!  This is the first market I’ve attended without a complete block of the month!  I have to say it felt really strange.  I wanted so much to show it off, but we do what we have to do.  Fabric arrived very late and for some of the fabrics is was a miracle they arrived at all!   I brought along as much of the quilt as I could to quilt market and gave out promises that the end result would be worth the wait.

Take a close-up look at these blocks and picture them quilted with embellishments added.  Picture little button door knobs and button trimmed collars!  I’m loving working on this quilt and I hope you will too!

Plaids, stripes and dots are perfect for cats and dogs!  If I counted right there are 21 cats and dogs on the quilt and a few umbrellas too…

…along with a kitty hotel…

…and of course I didn’t leave out the dogs!  They have a four star hotel complete with spa and gym!

You’ll see kittens playing in the vines…

…and playing in the catnip too!

I’ll be putting this quilt together this week and I’ll show you more photos as I do.  Then it’s off to the quilter for Raining Cats and Dogs and before you know it the real quilt will be ready!  A few wonderful quilt shops are starting to show the virtual picture and are taking sign-ups.  Don’t miss out because the fabric is limited.   You’ll see the quilt on my blog as I work along.  I hope you love what’s to come!

I’ve missed you all!  I’ll be back to my regular blogging this week and I’ll tell you all about market.  I have lots of photos to share with you!  I can’t wait!

Hugs,

Anne
