Mother’s Day is also for ducks!

In all the craziness around here getting ready for market Chelsea and I still manage to take our morning walk.  She loves it, I love it and today a little mother duck loved it!

We live near a “wetland” area and Chelsea and I walk by it almost every day.  Today I noticed a duck in the street pacing back and forth by one of the street drains.  As I got closer I could hear her babies crying quacking and I realized they had fallen into the drain and the poor little mom was so stressed!

I called my husband and the fire department.  I knew one of them would come to the rescue and they both did!

Here’s my husband and a fireman looking for the babies…

The fire department put their ladder down in the drainage hole…

…and then decided what to do…

One of the firemen went down into the drain and they handed him a canvas bag…

 …to scoop up the babies!

There’s nothing better than a fireman and a bag filled with baby ducks…

He carried them over to where mom was anxiously waiting…

…the babies were released and mom and babies waddled off into the field.   Look at the center top of the picture below and you’ll see the mother.  The babies are right behind but the tall grass is hiding them.

I think this just might be the best mother’s day present I’ve ever seen!

Happy babies + happy mother = Happy Mother’s Day!

For me it’s back to writing patterns.  I’ll have something to show you soon I hope.  We leave on Tuesday for Kansas City!

Apricot Blossoms in Shades of Pink

I had spring fever yesterday so Brigette and I took an hour at lunch to drive around the orchards where we live.  The fruit trees are coming to life, the hills are green and the sky is so blue.  We drove the back roads through farmland.  It’s wonderful to see at this time of year!

The colors of nature are something to see.  To think that each of these little flowers will become apricots!

The pinks will become the colors of apricots.  Mother nature knows what she’s doing!  It would be fun to see the palette on a cloudy day.

I hope you are enjoying some signs of spring where you live.  It’s about time don’t you think?  I’m spending the weekend working on quilt designs.  I can’t wait to show you!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Hugs,

Anne

Who Put The Chicken in the Tree?

I live in an area filled with cherry, apricot, orange, fig, peach, apple, persimmon, and chicken trees.  Wait!  What did I just say?  Chicken trees?

Yes, chicken trees!  Brigette’s friends, Dan & Teresa were wondering what was happening to their persimmons.  Now they know!  These are their chickens in their persimmon tree! Photo courtesy of Dan & Teresa!

If I ever design a quilt with chickens in a tree you’ll know where I got the inspiration!

Counting down to 2011 with a smile!

Happy Birthday Alyssa!

As the days rush by before Christmas Santa is getting closer and closer!    Like most of you I’m still wrapping presents.

In the middle of all the hectic holiday rush today is my Granddaughter’s birthday.  At the top of her “important things” list today were the red velvet cupcakes she made for school.   How sweet life is when you’re 9!  Tomorrow night is her school play.  It will be held in a little church chapel and she’ll sing her heart out.  She’ll be one day older and one day sweeter.   Seems like just yesterday she was turning 5.

And suddenly she’s old enough to sew!

Happy Birthday Alyssa!

As I was going through photos today I came across many from Christmas and Bunny Hill that I think you’ll enjoy.

I’ll be sharing them with you over the next few weeks as we wait for the New Year to arrive.

Remembering the days at Bunny Hill and welcome 2011!

Hugs,

Anne
