Michelle lives in Portland

Project Runway

Do you watch Project Runway?  I tape all the shows just so I don’t miss one.  If you were cheering for Michelle when she won Project Runway, you are not alone, and guess what?  She lives in Portland, right where quilt market is going to be (ok, maybe not right where quilt market is, but I’m sure she’s close by).  I would love, love, love to meet her!  She should be an inspiration to all of us because she picked herself up when she was down and came out on top.

Holly Hill

Also very near Portland is a fabulous quilt shop called Holly Hill.  It’s a must see stop if you’re going to Portland.  If anyone is still looking for my “Raining Cats & Dogs” quilt kit, Holly Hill has it.  Say I sent you, and get 10% off!  If you go, give Brian and big hug for me!

Garden Roses

Pink Vase

If you remember a few posts back, I showed you a photo of my pink depression glass vase filled with garden roses.  So many of you emailed to ask where I got the vase.  Well I’ve been searching for it on the internet and can’t find anything similar.  I purchased it years ago from Gooseberry Patch, but time has moved on and they no longer sell all the products they used to have.  I loved to shop Gooseberry Patch and I was  disappointed to find just cookbooks and recipes available.  I’ve gotten some great buys from them, and if I lined everything up and took photos you’d all say “I want that too!”.

Well, I wasn’t going to give up, so I’ve been searching eBay and  found 2 vases.  They are on their way to Bunny Hill!  When they arrive I’m going to do a vase giveaway. (No not in this post, but maybe by the end of the week so check back).    Who knows, maybe you can win one!

I’m going to be super careful with my own pink vase since I know how hard they are to find.  I fill mine with my garden roses to enjoy in the studio.  It’s the perfect vase a “frog” style top.

I wish this were mine

My friend Nancy (she does most of the piecing for Bunny Hill) brought over her Dear Jane quilt this week to share with us.  She’s an excellent quilter so we knew we were in for a treat.

It took her a little over 4 years to complete all the blocks and assemble the quilt.  She sent the quilt to Ohio to be hand quilted by an Amish quilter, and she just got it back last weekend.  The quilt has over 200 blocks and each block is quilted with a different pattern.  I could look at this quilt for days and never see enough.  These photos can’t begin to capture its beauty!

We laid it out on the floor so I could try and get a full photo…

…and two of our Bunny Hill workers got right  onto the center of the quilt.  You’d think they’d know better.  I just couldn’t believe it!

Each one blamed the other when I told them to get OFF the quilt.  I think one of them looked a bit more guilty than the other.

Nancy didn’t mind and I was so relieved.  Geeez…I’m going to have to put these workers through some training.  They need to wear white gloves when touching a quilt like this.

It’s an amazing quilt and it’s going to Vermont this summer for a show.  I’ll let you know when I get more information on the show, just in case you’re in the area.

Christmas at Holly Hill

Holly Hill Quilt Shoppe opened up its classroom this weekend for the annual Homespun and Holly event.   Fresh trees filled the room and the scent and spirit of Christmas was everywhere.

Have you ever seen a quilt shop classroom decked out like this?  It was amazing.

Table centerpieces were perfect little boxwood trees carefully planted in a beautiful wood crates.

A stocking filled with treats awaited each customer.

Eye candy was everywhere.

Visit the Holly Hill Blog to capture the spirit of this special event.

Homespun and Holly happens once a year and it’s worth a trip to attend.

A great start to the holiday season!

Paisley for Baby and Me!

I’m a paisley snob no doubt about it.  I have certain criteria that must be met before I like a paisley fabric:

1.  The size of the paisley must be right, not too small or large.

2.  It can’t be dense or my eyes will cross.

3.  Must be plenty of background behind the paisley so it stands on its own.

4.  The colors have to be soft like a water-color to speak to me.  :>)

Have you ever thought in such terms when you look at a paisley fabric?   Oh no!  Maybe you’ll become a paisley snob too and you’ll blame me!

My love affair with paisley started in Paris several years ago.  I found myself rummaging through the flea markets looking for treasures. When I came upon some old drawings from vintage lace I got very excited.   There was a paisley in the drawings like no other!  It was beautiful and I knew it was a treasure!   You never want to look too excited in a flea market where you don’t speak the language…it will cost you money for sure. I had my daughter in law with me who speaks fluent French.  It’s a good thing or I probably would have ended up paying a fortune for the drawing!

Here’s the drawing in the picture below.   The paper was starting to tear along the edges, and it felt like old newsprint.   Elke did the bargaining for me and I bought it for 80 euros.  We rolled it up, packaged it in a tube and I brought it home.  A year later when I was working on Windsor Lane I decided to add it to the fabric collection.  It took me forever to re-create this paisley to get it just right.  I am in awe of the original artist who drew it with just a pencil in the 1800′s.

Here’s the paisley re-created for Windsor Lane :

And now, because of my trip to Paris, we can all make things with this beautiful paisley!

I’m thinking of napkins for my Thanksgiving table, drapes for a baby’s room, duvet covers, pillows, dresses and on and on.

Windsor Lane Paisley!   I hope you love it! My fabric just arrived at Bunny Hill late yesterday and we’ll be unpacking it today.  We’ll start on kits this week!

Yes,  I ordered extra of the paisley.  I couldn’t resist.

Check out the sale section on my website…I just added past issues of magazines at 50 to 75% off.  It’s time to clear the shelves for new things to come!

Back soon,

Anne
