Merry Merry Snow Days Block Seven

Welcome to block seven of Merry Merry Snow Days!  Llamas ski free today and they are excited!  They’ve already spent money renting skates, so a freebie is great.  The line is sure to get long as the day goes on, but this little girl arrived early, and she’s first.

We’re working from the bottom row up today, slightly different than your pattern says.  We’re going to make the large sign first.  You should already have the pieced stars made, so sew together your sign background and stars.

Prepare the bottom sign applique and post, then place the signs over the pattern and trace the wording.  Center the sign on the background between the two stars, keeping edges 3/8″ from seams.  Go ahead and applique the sign in place and then embroider the wording with two strands of white floss.

Cut and piece the backgrounds together for the top (part one) of the block, making sure you “fussy cut” as many as you can.  Prepare all the applique and trace any details onto each piece.  Once again, the trees use the 1/4″ bias!  This snowman has been working out, and he’s strong.  He not only holds up the garland but the sign and star as well!

Place the top background over the pattern, position the applique, and glue-baste in place.  Now let’s trace the details onto the background.  First, trace the center of the garland and bow onto the stripe. Once you’ve done this, you can quickly draw straight lines for the garland stems and make tiny dots for the berries.  These lines and dots do not have to be perfect.  Then jump over and trace the llama’s bow onto the star background.

Finish the applique and embroidery for part one, and sew the bottom and top together.  Pat yourself on the back!  You can sew the top two rows of this quilt together!  Just three more blocks to go!
