The making of an aurifil thread kit

Just imagine, Moda and Aurifil ask you to design a small quilt and then choose thread colors to go with it.  It’s not as easy as it sounds! The first thing you’d have to do is open up this beautiful color palette of Aurifil threads!  Something happens to your heart when you see this many beautiful colors!  It’s like being turned loose in a candy store when you were a kid.

Then, they tell you to limit your selection to 7 colors.  Could you do it?  Just look at these gorgeous colors.  Don’t you want them all?

Last August I took on this challenge and designed a miniature ornament quilt and selected the wonderful Aurifil threads to go with it. Things are done so far in advance, it’s just now that the finished product has arrived.

The Mistletoe Lane Aurifil Thread Kit contains 6 spools of Aurifil 50wt. thread and 1 spool of Aurifil 12 wt. thread.  If you haven’t tried the 12 wt. for embroidery, you’re in for some fun.  It also includes a mini charm pack of Mistletoe Lane and a pattern for the ornament quilt.  You can find it on our website, available now.

Of course a new kit calls for some design work for the cover so I grabbed my camera to see what I could do.  I loved the first photo I took, until I pulled it up on the computer.

Seems I didn’t know the top from the bottom of the thread, so it was back to the camera to try again.  Once I figured out that the Aurifil name should be right side up, the light had changed.  The color was off and I think I was too LOL!  I know when it’s time to take a break.

I waited a bit and tried for a more casual look.  So pretty with all the fabrics, but still not right.

I can’t remember how many photos I had to take (it was quite a few), but I finally captured the photo below that you’ll see on the box…
