Rescue Angels

 Angel

On my quest to find another dog for our family, I’ve met the most AMAZING people.  Rescue Angels, I’m calling you.  You work so hard to save an endless number of animals, and your courage and faith amaze me.  What surprises me the most is how many of you there are!

From Jean’s sister, who helps in the Tracy, CA area ( Animal Rescue in Tracy)  to Laila who put me in contact with the people at Animal Compassion Team  in Fresno, CA, I am in awe of the network of people who help homeless animals.  I learned of a group who help get shelter animals adopted by posting Instagram pictures.  I found out that the Fresno area has so many small dogs, they work with other rescues and fly them to parts of the country where small dogs are scarce.  The things you all do to help are wonderful.

It was when I came upon the Toy Fox Terrier Rescue on Facebook that I found the dog for us.  When I saw her, I knew I had to have her.  Her name is Milkshake and she joined our family last week.   She’s made herself right at home and captured all of our hearts.

Milkshake

Thanks to Leslie and Patty from the rescue, and Carol who fostered Milkshake with such love, I know we’ve made the right match.  She’s just so sweet!

She spends the day in the studio, right along with Chelsea.

And at night while we watch TV, she cuddles in the pillows.

She turned 11 at the end of September and she’s getting a little gray, but I happen to love the color.

She’s a rescue dog who has a new home.  We love her like she’s been here forever!

A thank you goes out to each and every one of you who help these animals find new homes.  Thank you to those who foster, those who transport, and those who work to coordinate.  Without you there wouldn’t be cuddles on the couch, or happy endings.

Hugs,

Anne

Thank you, thank you, thank you for adopting a rescue dog.

I am a foster mama for Ratbone Rescues and want to make sure that the thanks go beyond the rescuers and fosters and extend to those who adopt through rescue. Without you adopters our houses would be full and we wouldn’t be able to save more dogs. In my house, when one leaves, another is welcomed.

Milkshake has found a great home and I am especially touched that you have chosen a senior dog. I have a 14 year old foster in my home who has been passed over for the 2 years she’s been in my house due to her age.

    You’ve brightened my day :)

Milkshake looks very similar to my little Enos, Enos is 14 years old and very very gray. He tucks his nose under in his babybed when snoozing just like your photo of Milkshake. Enos is a
rat terrier/jack russel mix, he is small, but has long legs.
These are very sweet loving dogs.
I am glad you made the rescue.

    Anne-

My heart felt very happy when I saw the pictures and read your post about Milkshake. I think the arrangement is a definite win/win!!! What a sweetie she is.

I’m so happy to see Milkshake has a wonderful new forever home. She’s adorable. I have a friend who works with rescue animals as a volunteer (she works full time at a “real” job) and I’m always so impressed by the amount of time she puts into helping these animals find forever homes.

    Anne:
Bless you for adopting a senior dog. She’ll spend her Golden Years knowing love and comfort in your home. What a sweet face, too! She looks like she was meant to live at Bunny Hill. I’m so happy for all of you!

My mom bred Toy Fox Terriers when I was young. They are the nicest little dogs.
Big hearts and so playful and incredibly brave. Your Milkshake is so lucky to have discovered such a good home and you’re lucky to have found her.

Oh Anne! Milkshake is so precious! You are an angel on earth to rescue her and give her the wonderful, loving home she so deserves. Many blessing to you, your family and all of your fur babies. I know we all look forward to seeing many pictures and all the tales (tails?) you will share with us.

Anne– I’m grammie to Stanzi, an 8yr old mini dashchund who, to her mother’s sorrow, has also developed some color changes on her sweet little muzzle. Had to remind Mama that it isn’t silver — it’s SUGAR overflow because that dear little one just keeps getting sweeter every day! Your little Milkshake just came with extra sweetness!

I love Milkshake’s name!!!! We have always adopted through rescue org MUSH. Knowing the dogs are in ‘need’ just makes me love them and want them more! Older dogs have a harder time getting adopted so a special angel adopts them. ;p

So glad Milkshake has made herself/himself at home. ;p

  • Louise

Oh my be still my heart! What a sweetie, i do think she just knew you were coming, just needed to be patient and you would arrive. Congrats to all of you.

    Anne:
What a doll Milkshake is! You are to be commended for adopting an older dog. Love is love and age has no boundaries! One week, and look how happy she is…
    Congratulations!
    Love,
    Mary

  • Chris

Awww……she does have the sweetest little face and I adore those ears! Thank you for letting her adopt her. We’ve shared our home with 4 dogs and 3 cats over the last 48 years and every one of them cam from a shelter to adopt us.

  • Marcia

Oh I am so happy for you and Milkshake. I love that you had the heart and courage to take an older dog. We lose them faster but there is a good feeling when you can give an older dog a wonderful love rest of life. Mine were from almost 8 years in a puppy mill. It’s a long road but what joy it is to see them, oh so slowly, learn to trust again. My hubby and I always say we will go to the grave with so many holes in our hearts from lost loved ones, but that’s ok, it’s a good thing to end up with a swiss cheese heart. That just means it was used up and used well.

Pet’s Milkshake, I’m happy for you!

  • Jean

I’m so happy that you were able to get your perfect dog so quickly. You are correct in that the rescue people are angels. The stories I could tell you about what my sister does would melt your heart and that’s just the tip of the iceberg of all the rescuers all over the country! I’m looking forward to lots of pictures!!!

  • Julie Z

I’ve been eagerly awaiting news about Milkshake! She is adorable and looks content and right at home. So happy you found each other and look forward to more pictures of her and of course Chelsea!

  • Anita K

Anne your Milkshake sure does have personality she is just adorable and it looks like she has settled in with your family very quickly. My husband and I have two rescue doggies and I don’t know how to function without seeing their sweet faces, just can’t get enough of them. A high five to all of us who love these wonderful rescue babies.

  • Linda

Oh Anne, just precious. She just looks like she’s been there for all of her 11 years. What a wonderful family she was so fortunate to be taken into. Congrats on your new baby!

  • Janet

Congrats on the new addition! Do the cats like her yet? I echo your thanks to the rescuers – both our dogs and two of our cats came to us via rescue organizations – they’re the heroes!

  • Dee

I agree with you wholeheartedly. They are angels. The world needs more people like them. The world also needs more people like you who are willing to adopt those animals who are older. God bless you! Milkshake is adorable.

  • Elvira

It is wonderful that there are people who help animals, and doubly good that they find them a home where they will love. Such animals are always grateful for it
