Weekend Summer Fun, Sewing of Course!
I spent last weekend sewing with friends, and oh my gosh we had fun. I think everyone should plan a retreat at home. Just think, send your husband and kids away for the weekend (mine husband happily went camping) and invite some friends over for sewing, all weekend long. Use whatever space you have even if it’s the kitchen table. Sewing together is what makes it fun!
I got to sew on a Juki 2010 Q and fell in love. It was easy to stitch a perfect 1/4″ seam allowance, even while sewing fast. The Juki only does straight stitching, but it does it so well, it’s easy to forget about other stitches. I think my Bernina was definitely a little jealous.
I stitched these 2″ log cabin blocks (actually they finish at 1 1/2″) on the Juki using the great 1/4″ foot that comes with the machine. The center square is only 1/4″ wide. I don’t know that I could stitch up 100 of these little blocks, but wouldn’t a few be cute in a border?
And everyone was talking about these rolling metal carts from Ikea, so of course I had to order one. Can’t you see it holding fat quarters and fabric for a current project? It rolls from cutting table to machine. It comes in aqua or grey!
Humm…wonder if I should get they grey one too?

My sisters and I all sew…since childhood. We try to get together for a one-day retreat every month. Lots of sewing, show ‘n tell, sharing tips, new projects, and fun box-lunch swap. We live 2 1/2 hour drive away from each other so this is do-able most of the year. Winter in New England can be snowy and/or icy so we are flexible during these months. We’d love to have our California sister and Texan cousin join us, but they are with us in spirit.

Now, I have to get one of the Ikea carts also, lol, up to now I’ve used whatever everything would fit in like a basket or box etc. TFS.

How funny! I just picked up my second one of these carts this weekend. I have one in my craft room to hold all my pens and inks (I have another Ikea storage area for my fabric) and I got the second one to hold my onions, potatoes, fruits, and veggies that don’t go in the fridge. I meant to get the grey one for my kitchen since my walls are an atrocious maroon color (hey it’s a rental!), but when I opened the box, there it was in all it’s aqua glory! Oh well the aqua is a prettier color, even if it does clash with the walls. Hopefully we will be in our own place eventually anyway and I can paint the walls a color that will complement my wonderful new cart!

Those carts are FABULOUS! I bought one to put under my cutting table. The next day, I went back and got three more! I use the other three by my big ironing board, one to hold all my longarm tools and one for my gift wrapping stuff! The IKEA Burken jars fit nicely in the baskets. You can put six large jars in one basket or three large jars, two medium and a small. There are a few different combos that work, but it breaks it down if you need smaller storage in the cart for scissors, etc. I love that I can tuck mine away when Im not using them. They are so great! I recommend them to all my friends!

I’ve been outside of Shipshewana in a log cabin in the woods with six of my best quiltie peeps from South Bend since Friday. I’m making Henry’s Lambkins quilt from the kit I ordered from you. We sew, laugh, cry, eat and shop — then watch chick flicks at night while we do hand work. Going on a shop hop today to quilt stores I’ve never visited! We go home on Thursday. We usually just come up for a weekend but planned this last October. We teach each other new things — making purses tonight! We’ve been doing this for 15 years.

A sewing retreat sounds fun but sadly none of my friends like to sew ( but they love my homemade gifts;-)

Oh, I just love the little rolling cart. It’s just what I’ve been looking for. It’s not the color I would want, but I think a spray can of paint could fix that!
The Juki sounds wonderful as well. With two Berninas and two featherweights, I have to tell myself that I don’t need another machine. Drat!!! A stay-cation sewing retreat sounds like a lot of fun!!!!

Hi Anne…I would love to come and stitch with you. I did have a great weekend too…it was spent sewing with a friend. Christa and I were working on a raffle quilt for the Greater Ann Arbor Quilt Guild. Yes, I’m getting them and they will be pink. Although, the aqua is nice. Think my longarmer tools would store well there

I came home with two of these carts in aqua and after putting them together, my husband went out and bought two of them in the charcoal for his workshop. They really are wonderful!
