Holly Hill

This week has just flown by.  Just as I put the newsletter out last Monday,  Kim (she’s the one who personally takes care of all of you) came down with the stomach flu.  We were doing fine until about 1PM and then this awful bug hit…it took her down for the week.

Robin and I are keeping our fingers crossed that we’ve killed this bug with Lysol.   I’ve sprayed everything I can think of and so far so good.  I hope none of you have had this bug.  I got my flu shot but I’m not sure this is what they consider the actual flu.

When Kim comes back tomorrow this will be waiting!  It’s a stack of Cosmo embroidery thread that’s waiting to be put into kits I’m taking to Portland this week!

Where am I going in Portland?  I’m visiting one of my favorite quilt shops, Holly Hill!   They are hosting their annual workshop called Homespun & Holly and I’ll be there with several other Moda designers:  Polly and Laurie from Minick & Simpson, Karla from Sweetwater and Kathy Schmitz.  Each of us has a surprise project and we’ll be bringing a kit for everyone attending.  The shop is filled with fabric, kits and treasures.  Here are pictures of the shop from last year:

This kind of shop doesn’t happen overnight.  It takes hard work year around and Jan and Brian work harder than anyone I know.

If you ever get a chance to visit this shop, plan on spending some time. There’s so much to look at and so many things to buy.  It’s a quilter’s heaven!

Back soon,

Anne

My sympathy goes out to Kim! I just recovered from the flu bug myself and it was a whopper!!!! I too disinfected anything and everything in the house! I hope all you other “Bunnies” at Bunny Hill stay well! The Holly Hill shop looks marvelous but even more so would be the chance to attend a class/retreat there with you presenting, Anne! You are my “go to” website, blog and interview on Quilt Radio when I need inspiration. Love your interview with Pat Sloan from quilt market – spring 2010! Thanks for all you do and share! Cassie

Oh no! Unfortunately you’re not the only blogger I know of to have this bug hit your ‘family.’ It seems to be making the rounds everywhere, and several of my ‘real time’ friends are going down, too. As someone with a compromised immune system (so I can’t get a flu shot, and have to be SUPER cautious around people) I’ll tell you a few of the things that’ve kept me healthy these past few years:

    – Washing My Hands, and Keeping Them Away From My Face!! I carry wet wipes with me and use them frequently when I’m out. As soon as I get home I wash my hands with warm water and soap.

    – I drink water all day long. I love water, but if you don’t, spruce it up. Sometimes I add pure, unsweetened cranberry juice or cherry concentrate. Find something you enjoy, but stay hydrated.

    – I am not shy about telling people to cover their coughs! I’m appalled at the number of adults who cough and sneeze in public without using a Kleenex, a handkerchief or a sleeve. Some folks use their bare hands and then spread their germs to everything they touch.

I know I sound like a Public Health Nurse, but who wants to be sick when there are so many yummy fabrics and projects to choose from? I actually remember those photos of Holly Hill; the shop is soooo cozy and inviting. Have a wonderful trip, and be well. :))

I’ve been to Holly Hill just a couple of times and it is all you say. What a fun shop. You can spend the day there so easily and you’ll probably have missed something. Maybe one of these days I’ll live back down that way and get to go there more often. :D

I love the look of this shop! Makes me want to just spend an afternoon there. I hope you enjoy your visit with the other designers. Please give Kim my best and tell her I hope she is soon back to feeling as she should. I’ve ony had the pleasure of talking with her on the phone, but she sounds very sweet.
