I had an old girl, too, years ago but she was with me from puppyhood. She lived to be 21! Bounced back from a stroke and finally had to be put to sleep she was in such pain from her cancer. I hope your little Bitsy (I LOVE that name) lives to be 25!! Mine was named Mimi and some mix of terrier, not a pretty dog but such a GREAT dog!

What a wonderful story. Happy birthday, Bitsy Button! My own Sadie Anne Zoe (I tell her she’s the A to Z of my universe) is a rescue “pup” (they think she’s about 8 years old) and since she has come into our lives the sun shines brighter. What a miracle she is each and every day and she gives more to us than we could EVER give to her.

19 is amazing and awesome!!! Just exactly like Bitsy Button Sutton! Happy Birthday to the sweetest girl! Your family is truly blessed!

Oh Bitsy Button, we hope your birthday was your BEST ever!! What a darling, lovey girl you are, bringing such love and happiness to your mom and dad.

Love and hugs from your kitty fans Maren, Spenser and Keith.

Awww, happy birthday, Bitsy! You are so sweet! I have a rescued toy rat terrier named Coco who after running around the neighborhood for days while our kind neighbors tried to catch her, came running into my arms at full speed one Saturday afternoon. Of course we tried to find her home, unsuccessfully, and were able to keep her. She is adorable-just like your Bitsy. Does she like to sleep under the blankets? Coco sleeps just like a cat, all curled up next to my legs under the covers. It is such a peaceful feeling-for both of us! :)

Happy Birthday Bitsy and here’s to many more. This story made me laugh and cry at the same time, we have just lost our old dog and yes, I truly do know how wonderful an old dog can be. Bitsy was definitely meant to be in your life – she was very lucky to have found you. Hugs Linda

Happy birthday sweet Bitsy! Nineteen! That is awesome. I read your story and it sounds like both your mom and you got the best of gifts that came without ribbons or bows. How lucky for both of you to find each other. Enjoy that cake and whippet cream!

Awww, dear, sweet Bitsy. How precious!

On Friday, I had to say goodbye to my precious little Elliot cat at only thirteen years old. Nineteen is quite an accomplishment and a blessing!

    Happy birthday, cutie!

Awww…sweet! Happy Birthday, Bitsy! My AbbyDog (a Jack Russell) turned 13 on Friday. You’d never know, though – she’s still very puppyish and loves her long walks on the river valley trails.

Have the best birthday Bitsy. We ave an older dog she as just turned 13. She is a jack Russell called Jessie, she was the neighbors dog and used to gets to our backyard as a pup to ear our kelpies food. She just kept coming back till the neighbors asked if we wanted her ! Even though there was much yelling by my husband when she was a pup, she chewed everything in sight, she is now his third daughter, tender words are spoken to her by him and my companion during the day . Nothing gives you unconditional love like a dog.

Best Birthday wishes to Bitsey. I love how her story shows how rewarding it can be to make the decision to add a Senior pet to your home. I recently had 2 of my cats pass away and the remaining 19 yr. old cat who is also deaf is having a terrible time being without her companions. So..I am once again looking at all of the shelter cats and reading their stories. The hardest stories & pictures to look at are the great number of Seniors that are desparately in need of homes. I can’t imagine being taken from your home so late in life and having to live in a cage in a strange place. Many people think that a cat/dog who is 9 or ten is “too old” to adopt. With many cats and smaller dogs living longer lives these animals still have many years of love and companionship to give. Bitsey’s story perfectly illustrates that older pets make great companions. They may not be as cute as a kitten or puppy, but you will never find any pets who will so appreciate the love & home you can provide them in their senior years. I hope many readers will share Bitsey’s story and encourage others to consider adopting an older cat or Dog. I had a good laugh when I saw that Bitsey and I both love the same cookie. I hope she really enjoys her treats today.

Bitsy is such a sweet dog. I reread her story and it still brings tears to my eyes. Thank goodness for big hearts and loving homes like yours! I’m sure she adds to your lives every bit as much as you have to hers. Did Chelsea find a new mouse toy to love like the one that was lost? Happy Birthday, Bitsy!

” HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU BITSY BUTTON ” … and by the way, both Friskie and Sadie also said to tell you that they wish they had a ‘Button’ just like yours. They think it is the cutest thing they have ever seen!!! Big birthday hugs…and give one to your mom too… :o)

Happy Birthday Bitsy! I believe that we find our hearts in those of our pets — I know it has been true in our home. Anne — so lucky that you found one other — you and your husband are very special folk — and the hearts are singing today!

    Hugs,
    Karen

Happy Birthday, Bitsy, you little miracle dog.
Anne, although I knew her story, I had to go and read it again. It still brings tears, but a smile in the end. She was meant to be with you :)

What an awesome story! Sounds like a perfect match for everyone. Happy Birthday Bitsy! Dogs are so wonderful, I can’t imagine life without them.

Happy birthday to Bitsy! I have just started reading your blog, so had to follow the link to read Bitsy’s story. She is truly a treasure! I too have an old dog who is a wonder. Missi has been with us all of her 15 years. She’s a Cocker Spaniel, but we call her a Cocker Spanish Girl (a la Lady & the Tramp). She’s been through some tough times lately, but like the famous watch, she takes a lickin’ and keeps on tickin’! She is a sweetie and deserves every bit of spoiling I can share with her!

  • Miss Jean

I have never met Bitsy in person but I love her like she is my own. I have been reading your blog for about 5 years and every time you show a picture of her, getting a little more gray each time, I look in her eyes and I just melt and tear up.

So Happy Birthday, my sweet, sweet Bitsy! I love you so much!
