The weather was hot but no one seemed to mind. The fruit was ripe for the picking and waiting for us. The area I live in is known for growing fruits and vegetables. At this time of year people come from all over to participate in the harvest.
Since I live in this area I sometimes forget that not everyone has access to orchards like these. I turned around just as we were walking into one of the orchards and this is what I saw…

So much fruit just waiting to be picked. We are blessed with an abundance this year. Yellow peaches, white peaches and nectarines; does one tree taste better than the other? I can definitely say “yes”.

After we picked peaches and nectarines we drove to another orchard for cherries!

I think a cherry and peach cobbler might be called for!
It was the perfect end to a perfect vacation. It’s back to work this week.

nothing like fresh fruit picked right off the tree. YUm!
difficult for me in France to imagine so huge orchards! with the very bad weather this year, still raining and cold in June, we have not many fruits. and they seem so delicious….

Those nectarines look delicious, need to go get some tomorrow for our paddle trip.

I could almost SMELL those ripe peaches! Wish they’d hurry up and invite smellivision! U-pick fruit is pretty much a thing of the past up here. Too bad because there’s nothing quite like a sun-ripened peach fresh from the tree, fuzz and all!
Scrumptious!! I had an organic peach on my cereal this morning, organic blackberry shortcake for dessert last night, and am snacking on organic Rainier cherries this afternoon. Love those summer fruits.

Anne, I’m so glad you enjoyed your time with your family and the precious days with your beautiful little granddaughter. There is nothing like it!
We are picking strawberries and raspberries, and the blueberries are beginning to ripen, too. I can’t wait to make some cobblers and jams, if we don’t eat it all before it has time to be cooked! Our little granddaughters want to come and pick fruit every day :) Later will come the canteloupe, and anyone who’s ever tasted canteloupe fresh from the garden will confirm that it is beyond compare. Then later still….apples. We have almost an orchard now, well, a small orchard :)
