I sent my husband to the vet to pick up medicine for Bitsy and look what he brought home…
His name is Marcel…
…and he’s 7 years old.
His owner is in the hospital dying and Marcel needs a new home. That’s all my husband had to hear… he brought Marcel home.
He’s very sweet, a little shy and he’s spent the last month at the vet just waiting for the right person to want him. My husband thinks it was meant to be and there’s no doubt in his mind that Marcel was waiting for us.
Marcel’s had more than his share of hard times. He once got caught in the engine of a car and he’s had some major surgery because of it. It left him with a large chunk out of his hip area. We don’t mind a few imperfections. It’s part of his charm.
Chelsea and Bitsy are really good with him but Mooch isn’t quite sure she likes him. She puts up with him and I’m hoping she’ll come around.
Marcel hasn’t shared a house with other pets before but so far he’s doing just fine. He’s an amazing little black cat and I have totally fallen in love with him.
I know it can’t be easy for a little cat to understand what’s happening but he seems to be settling in. I hope he likes his new home :>)
Anne
Marcel is beautiful! I have loved black cats for as long as I can remember and have been lucky enough to have had a few. Marcel is a lucky guy to have found such a great family!
Oh Anne, he is gorgeous!! I just know he and Mooch will be great chums. I forsee black cats in the Bunny Hill pattern future now too = )
Marcel looks just like our Pinch, they could be related!
Oh, my!! What a WONDERFUL boy!! Marcel is just GORGEOUS!! Congratulations on your newest addition….and, what a wonderful story! We’ll be looking for the next quilt starring him! Smoochies to you all!!
This is such a heart warming story. I hope he’ll settle in and will get along with the other cats.
Dresden Plate anyone?? Marcel?? ANYONE??!! Dang, it isn’t the 5th of the month. :( I’ll have to wait until manana…manana…
Yes, this is again, an adorable guy. But I third the motion for a cute black kitty quilt pattern!
Marcel is so lucky to have waited so patiently for the purrfect family to adopt him. There is so much kitty and doggie luving to go around for all the Bunny Hill pets….the purrfect home for Marcel and eventually Mouch will agree and they will be best buds…a happy happy day at the Sutton home when Mr BH came home from the vets!…..hugs Pauline
Marcel is adorable!! So lucky to have found a new home and owners to love him! I’ve always found that when you introduce a new pet to a home, give them time and as long as they all get the same amount of attention – they sort it out
I love your husband – lucky Marcel to find such a wonderful new home (and he’s gorgeous by the way) – this is my second visit today too and I’ve had tears both times :)
I’m commenting again, but just to ‘second’ the idea of a black cat BOM — what a great idea!!
what a lovely addition to your family..
I keep coming back to look at the photos of your sweet Marcel! Those photos could be of our Little (not any more!) Guy, who we officially named Guy Noir. I hope Mooch adjusts quickly to Marcel. He certainly looks like a sweetheart! Bless you all for taking him in.
How sweet of your husband! I got one of my cats from the vet. He had been there a long time as well. Apparently he didn’t work out at several placements and the question was if it was more humane to put him down since he didn’t seem adoptable or continue to leave him at the clinic. Luckily the vet’s wife knew we had recently lost a cat and that we had a quiet house. I had him until he cancer took him.
How sweet of Marcel to adopt your husband like that!
And can I throw in a vote for a black cat BOM? Please? I’m sure he’d like to pose by some pumpkins…
I think everyone has already said it but what a wonderful thing to see on this Wednesday morning. Little blessings make big differences! Welcome to the Sutton home little Marcel.
Marcel is beautiful, Anne! You have a great husband to just bring Marcel home without stopping to think about it. I love the fact that your four-legged friends are all just part of the family.
I laughed and laughed at Chelsea’s reaction to Kim’s Dresden Bug! I could just see Chelsea’s concern, and it was priceless!
Oh Anne, I have tears in my eyes at this wonderful story. Please give your husband a big hug for me for being such a wonderful person. Marcel is just so handsome and he is one lucky black cat after such a sad time in his life. As a weak soul for stray cats (I have 4), you and your husband’s amazingly kind spirit towards Marcel touches my heart. Bless you all at Bunny Hill house.
Wow, he captured me with your first photo :D
Thanks for sharing, I just adore “meant to be….” stories and I’m thankful he now has y’all and you Marcel (his name is so cool).
I am not a cat person (allergic, unfortunately) but he is a beauty. How wonderful that he now has a forever home. Dare we hope… a black cat BOM????? wouldn’t that be wonderful too.
Oh, my gosh…once my husband went to the pet store to pick up guinea pig food and came home with 2 Chinese dwarf hamsters. {He’s not allowed in there any more without a “responsible” adult!”} But they were an awesome addition to our younger family, I must admit! Marcel and you are lucky to have found one another! We just had a scare with our sweet dog, Ginger, and can’t imagine being without her either.
Oh Anne! This made me cry. I cannot image the relief that Marcel’s previous owner must feel knowing their sweet pet is going to be well cared for. I love that the vet took him in to find him a home and I love that you are giving him a forever home! Man you opened the flood gates and it just makes me love you all the more! I really enjoy your blog and all your sweet patterns and fabrics and BOMs. You have the biggest heart and bless so many! :0) Hugs to you! Welcome home Marcel!
there are angels on earth amd I do believe Marcel found a new home with two of them! Blessing to both you and your sweet husband for giving Marcel a wonderful home. I think some else asked this, but we would love to see a picture of your hero husband with the huge, loving heart. (how could it be otherwise? You two must make an awesome team!!) And be sure to share more pix of Marcel, Mooch, Bitsy, Chelsea …and Well, the whole gang!
OOh what a beautiful cat. Hubby did a great job rescuing that poor little guy.
AWWWW…he’s so CUTE! And well done to your husband for bringing him home. It always breaks my heart when I go to the shelter and see the animals whose owners have passed away. They look So Sad and forlorn. I’m tearing up now, gonna go look at cute kitty pics!
the lord said you never know when you are in the presence of an angel
so treat everyone kindly…(~.~) thus speaks your home & world..
Bless you & your sweet husband for always having a kind loving heart
because it will *that* kindness The Lord always sends back to you…
Blessings
Absolutely wonderful! Your husband is St. Francis! Marcel is a darling kitty! Is Marcel talkative? My daughters black cat Maynard is the most vocal cat I have ever heard. What would life be like without these dear creatures? marcel will return the love and care you give him a thousand times more!
That happened to me once – but it was a little dog named Gizmo. Best friend/dog I ever had. Marcel is a very blessed little guy and he will give you guys so much joy. Give your hubby a hug for being a great person.
Marcel is one lucky kitty to have crossed paths with your huge-hearted husband!!! Meant to be for sure. I’m so sorry to hear that the former owner is dying…if possible, maybe someone can let them know that Marcel is safe and happy so they might be at peace in knowing that. Big hugs and love — from Franny and Lou too!
awwwww, such a sweet kitty! rescue cats are so special. hope all of you get to enjoy marcel for a very long time.
You and your husband are such dear people. Welcome to your
new home darling Marcel!
Who says guys don’t have soft spots! Welcome to your new home, Marcel!
Your husband’s heart and love is as big as yours – and Marcel is so fortunate that he waited for you to find him and give him love. He is a darling. Judy C
What a beautiful little boy! And your husband is a legend!
From France,
You and your husband are some body very lovely, i wish you many happy days with Marcel and all your pets!!!
plein de bisous de la France, renée
Oh, Anne, you are so lucky to have such a pretty boy join the household! Marcel is a very blessed kitty, and he and Mooch will come to be good buddies. Enjoy him!
You are one lucky lady. Marcel looks like a real love. Reminds me of my Zach who adopted me about 10 yrs ago when he needed someone to take care of him. I wish you all well!
Heaven sent!! Some things are just meant to be…
Love,
Mary
Marvelous Marcel. He is gorgeous.
Please post a picture of your wonderful husband. We are all incredibly jealous already! He’s the kind of man you deserve. Marcel is so smart to have waited for him. He and Mooch may never be buddies ( he IS horning in on Mooch territory) but I’m sure they will learn to at least peacefully coexist in your wonderful household. At least he has the dogs won over! I’m looking forward to many future pictures of M&M together in your studio!
How wonderful of you! I have rescued all of my animals and you will never regret it. They become so special!
Anne – Marcel is just beautiful and he couldn’t have a found a more wonderful home!
What a beautiful guy! So glad your husband felt the pull of sharing your home with him. So many times husband’s put the nix of (another) baby. But he found a wonderful home. All will settle in I’m sure. We need more pictures of this handsome one……he is a keeper!

Awww, Marcel is precious! Bless you for taking in an older cat. They so need love, too!
What a sweet heart (that applies to both Marcel and your husband). I don’t think I could have resisted that sweet face, but Mooch will always be my favorite.
What a sweet black kitty, I miss my own. I had one for over 19 years named Spook. He walked across the road one night and never came home. Then I had a black cat named Hannah, she lived to be around 12 ended up having diabetes and an uncontrolled bladder/kidney infection. Black cats are my favorite other than a ‘good little calico’…
take care… he is adorable.
God bless your hubby and you…Marcel is gorgeous and I’m sure he’ll settle in. I’ll pray for his former owner.
You brought tears to my eyes with that first picture of Marcel! He is so sweet! Your husband is a doll! Give him a big hug for me!
Oh, Anne. Please don’t take this the wrong way, but I LOVE your husband. :)))
A week ago Saturday my husband and I brought home two 8 month old marmalade tabby boys to add to our family. They’re from the same rescue organization where we got our previous cats. People always say we’re so wonderful for adopting rescues, and the kitties are so lucky, but (I imagine you might agree with me here) we’ve received *far* more over the years from our darlings than we’ve ever given them.
Bless your hearts and I know in time Marcel (LOVE his name!) and Mooch will be getting along just fine.
What a sweet little guy I am sure he will really love your home and all of your other animals. He is one lucky boy getting to live with you.
Hi Anne,
Gosh, another tear inducing story! I wrote you a while back when you wrote “It Came Without Ribbons”. I had read that story outloud to my college aged son and told you how my daughter was bringing her new kitten home during her Christmas break. You wrote the sweetest e-mail in response. Well, our three kitty’s had a bit of a hard time with that, but they are all friends now. I think Marcel is going to fit in just fine with your loving family of wonderful pets. Your husband is a special man with a big heart and I wish you many happy years with your beautiful new addition! Don’t ever stop writing about your pets! Your pictures and stories about them mean so much to many people. Yesterday we smelled gas in the house and took our three cats outside (in the Minnesota winter!) with us until it was checked out. Our furry little babies did their best to wake us up by jumping on and off of us and meowing REALLY loud! Thankfully, everything turned out OK (a car battery that was plugged into a charger got fried). I’m just glad we were home with them to get them outside before the fumes in the house got so bad that they may have been harmed. Long story short, our little rescue kitties probably rescued us! What would we do without our beloved pets? Take care and congratulations on your new kitty!
Oh Anne, I’m a sucker for an animal story with a happy ending! Marcel is GORGEOUS, look at those eyes! Don’t you worry, Mooch and Marcel will be best of friends and getting up to all sorts of antics before you know it. Truly, what one doesn’t think of, the other will, at least that has been my experience when introducing a new furry family member to my already established ones. Especially cats. Hugs…(and an extra big hug to your hubby for rescuing Marcel HUGZZZZZ)
What a beautiful cat. What a lucky cat! It WAS meant to be . . . and I’m sure there’s a born quilter there . . . I can see it in his eyes. I hope Mooch comes around soon.
I so like your husband!!!
I fear Iam just like him. I cannot say no to an animal in need.
I took my dog to the vet for shots, the vet (very nice man) saves animals that people want put down for the wrong reasons. He lets them play in the back halls and rooms to be socialized. I ended up taking one home. I have a weak spot for the handicapped and elderly. They turn out to be the hapiest and best friends.
My 17 yr old cat, came with the house we bought. She she is funny and quite the priss, and we love her dearly.
He’s beautiful!! I love his name, too! I wonder if he knows the dog who starred in The Artist? It’s a French thing. ;p
How good of the vet to keep him and help him find a new home. It would probably ease his owner’s worries to know Marcel is now safe again. :)
Okay, now I’m gonna cry…
Anne, God bless you and your husband for giving Marcel a home. Poor little guy. Your post made me tear up. With so much negative stuff going on in the world, reading your post is just what I needed to warm my heart this morning.
Congratulations on the addition to your family! He’s absolutely gorgeous – I love those big, glowing green eyes and the little white flecks in his black fur! And I can’t begin to tell you how much it warms my heart that you’ve adopted an adult cat. It’s so hard for adult pets to find homes since everyone wants kittens and puppies. He is such a lucky cat to have found such a wonderful new family. And maybe he’ll inspire you to design another kitty themed quilt. I’d love to see another one of those from Bunny Hill!
Welcome to Marcel !! He looks very cute !
Florence
Does Marcel realize that he is living at Bunny Hill? That’s one lucky cat if you ask me!!!
(Good for your hubby!)
When I adopted Tink one of the nicest things anyone said to me was she won the doggie lottery cause she got a loving forever home. I think Marcel has hit the Kitty Lottery. It doesn’t matter what went before, becaue he now has a loving family and siblings to boot.
Marcel is gorgeous and his eyes-well their amazing. So pretty. Glad your hubby adopted him. He definitely has gone to an animal friendly household.
Aw he is beautiful! We had a black cat growing up. He was a short hair though and he was the best cat ever. His name was Gizmo. He had to be put down a couple of years ago now and I still miss him. I hope Marcel brings you as much joy as Gizzy brought us.
Congratulton on this lovely new housemate!
I’m sure he’ll settle in soon and will think he’s in heaven.
What a handsome fellow Marcel is. Looks like it was meant to be! High five to both you and your husband for providing a living home for him.
Those eyes!!
Well done. I hope you have many purrfect years together.
Oh how wonderful! Now I have the warm fuzzies. :) Hugs, Kay
Marcel is just beautiful and your husband is an absolute dear man!! Congratulations on your new kitty!
He is adorable, as is your husband! We have Marcel’s counterpart. Her name is Sophie and we got her six years ago when she was about eight. I had sold our neighbors house and she wasn’t able to take her, so my husband said we would take her (totally out of character!). We were told she was wild and we would never be able to hold her as she had been under the hood of a car when it was started as well. She has a crooked, short tail and her head is a little out of kilter, but we love her! She was always an outside cat before moving here but now she is in the house 95% of the time and when my husband sits down, she’s on his chest sleeping. I love it! She is the sweetest kitty and we are so glad she is part of our menagerie.
Thank you for taking in Marcel!
Oh, I love him! He’s so handsome, and reminds me of my sweet Dusty, whom was my kitty growing up. He doesn’t realize how lucky he is to have found his forever home with you!
My kitty came from a rescue also, what a sweetheart he looks to be!
What a lovely story, I hope he settles in well. They say cats always chose their owners, he is lucky to have you.
God bless you, Anne!!!!
Oh he’s so cute! Congratulations on adding a new little friend. I’m sure that he’ll fit in in no time. My cats are both rescued strays, and I’ve been happy that I can provide a good home for them (haha sometimes when they misbehave I need to remind them about where they came from!)
Awww… that’s a “chill bump” story for me! :-) When I read about — or hear the story of– something heartwarming, it makes me have chill bumps– sort of like hearing the national anthem playing… :-) Congratulations to Marcel– what a lucky kitty you are to have found such a loving home!! I’m sure his owner would be so happy to know that he will be loved!!! :-)
He’s a sweetie and takes a very good picture. Glad you were able to give him a home..I’m sure his owner will appreciate knowing that he’s in such a loving home.
Ohmygosh!! I love Marcel, too :) I have a dog and three cats – They can really be a handul but I wouldn’t change a thing! Congratulations on your new baby – Hope he settles in quickly.
Hugs,
Pam P
What a beautiful boy! I think he hit the jackpot when he chose your family. Congrats!
What a pretty boy you are, Marcel! I’m sure he’s happy to be a part of your family now;-)
Hildy
We came to getting our schnauzer, when his first owner who loved him dearly just didn’t have the time for him. He was only a year old and completely trained. He has been a blessing to me and my husband, he has been there for us when we were dealing with having an empty nest. Sounds like Marcel is a very lucky kitty to find such a wonderful new family.
Anne, Marcel is as sweet as can be! I think your husband is right, he was waiting for you. He looks to be a bit suspicious of the camera, but he’ll soon get used to that at your house. Congratulations on your new little arrival, he couldn’t have found a better home.
>^.^<
Awww..isn’t he beautiful? Did you dh remember the meds for Bitsy? My dh would have brought Marcel home, too.
Your sweet husband is my hero du jour!
Congrats to you all … I can’t resist a pretty face either (2 dogs, 4 cats, 1 bird)!
Anne – he is beautiful ! The world needs more folk like you and your husband.
Looks like Marcel has found Kitty Heaven on Earth !!
Thanks for sharing.
Karen
We have a cat just like that in physical appearance and he is my cuddle boy. He just loves to be loved! Good luck… and thank you, for rescuing him.
That exactly like my husband too, in fact we now have six cats.
There’s a special place in heaven for people who rescue pets……
Thank You! With all my heart!
Marcel is a little cutie. He will soon be right at home.
What a wonderful story, with a happy end as I love !
Marcel is a beautiful cat, exactly the same as mine.
Almost the same… Mine is a girl and her name is Padmé, like in Star Wars !
And your husband is a hero ! :-)
He’s handsome, seems a Norwegian forest cat.
I’m sure he will be extra fine with you!
Big cuddles for the new family component!
Bonjour, Marcel! And bienvenue from all of the Bunnyhill fans!!
Oh, he is beautiful…so glad he found such warm hearts!!
Marcel is very handsome. I think he looks like he belongs on a fall quilt. Welcome to quilt land Marcel, you lucky cat!
One of my sisters and I let a black cat with those beautiful green eyes, follow us home one night, to my mothers dismay. We named her Panther, never thought about what sex she was. Panther turned out to be female. My mother had much empathy for her when she gave birth to eight little cuties. Panther was comforted much by my Mom.
Your husband is a real hero, and I’m sure that Marcel will come to know just what a wonderful family has taken him in to live out the rest of his days. I’m looking forward to seeing something beautiful that you’ll create in his honor! (Perhaps something NOT related to Halloween, as black cats always have such a hard time because of that association.) He’s going to love living with all of you!
xoxo
Donna
What a sweet boy! I’m so glad you are able to give him a home. It breaks my heart to think of the cats and dogs that are homeless and alone or worse. Marcel looks very intelligent and very loving too. I’m sure he will give you many years of love!!!
What a handsome cat! I don’t blame your husband for bringing Marcel. I wouldn’t have been able to resist bringing him home either.
Marcel may not know it now but he is a very lucky cat to find such a loving home as yours.
I think he is the cutest and sweetest cat. Next to Lucky Cat, that is. He is one lucky cat to have found you and Ross. No matter what, he has his forever home with 2 of the nicest people I know. Am sure St Francis had a hand in this.
