Vintage Treasures
We all seem to love those vintage treasures, especially when they happen to be quilts. Since many of us are working on our Dresden quilts I thought you might enjoy seeing pictures of a few vintage ones today.
I was lucky enough to find this one on eBay last year for $28.00!
My friend Nancy found this beauty in Sisters Oregon. I’m not sure what she paid for it but something tells me it was more than $28.00.
It’s pieced with wool, silk and cotton, and embroidered with floss and yarn!
Just look how sweet this one of Nancy’s is…
Sometimes you can find unfinished blocks like these…
…Or, maybe you’ll find a few finished blocks…
…with a stack of other blocks waiting to be completed. (I bought these on eBay last year.)
Vintage quilts are waiting to be discovered and part of the fun is in the hunt!

I also have a sweet little Dresden which I found at a small yard sale on my very first visit to Sisters.
There were actually a pair of them identical and priced so minimally my husband encouraged me to purchase both but I felt I should leave one for someone else! Hmmm now I realize how sweet they would look on the twin beds in the guest room. Thank you for sharing the vintage blocks.

Sometimes the quarter blocks were never intended to be plates. Look at some FAN designs for layout ideas for quarter circles.

Love your antique samples. We’ve become Foster Parents to quite a few, many not pristine or perfect, but love each as individuals. And don’t worry about the misspelling. Amazing finds! We hit antique shops to find bits and pieces, fabrics and unfinisheds. I have a dresden applique quilt top on pink fabric from a shop..it’s just waiting to be finished.

Vintage quilts are so special! I don’t have any myself, but my Mom has a lovely collection, handing down by my Grandmother. By the way, I adore how your Dresdan quilt is coming along. Just beautiful! Tomorrow I am heading down to my local quilt shop to do some fabric shopping for baby. Lucky for me, they carry a large selection of your fabrics and patterns =)

– they are really wonderful quilts Anne- I have never checked ebay for vintage quilts- I am almost afraid to- I could get myself into so much trouble I am sure…. It is hard to find many vintage things locally- I marvel at what is available in your antique stores in the States… There is a collectible place here in the city in which I live but usually not much textiles- I will have to check out their other site- perhaps there is more in the other store… And there is always Ebay.. thanks for sharing your treasures…

These are beautiful! I love looking at them and thinking about the people who collected the fabrics and pieced them. I wonderful if anyone will ever decide to take my collected scraps and and do the same (because unless I have another 100 years to live, I’ll never be able to use them all myself)!

As lover of quilts, it is hard to imagine parting with unfinished quilts and quilt blocks, but soooo lucky for the ‘finder’! These quilts and blocks are gorgeous. It’s so true that half the fun is in the hunt, but these are so special – you ladies are very lucky!!!

My Grandpa was a quilter and made many, many Dresden Plate quilts. That was HIS block!! I was given the last 90 blocks he made but didn’t get put into a quilt. One of them even lacks the center circle! I’ve been advised to add my own center but I chose to leave it as is, with the exception of zig-zag around the edges of the blades. I made a cover for my pellet stove and am in the process of using a few to make a table runner. That will include the unfinished block as a tribute to my Grandpa! PS–He tied all his quilts, no hand quilting for him.

I think I have a couple of antique Dresdens from eBay. Need to pull out that tub and look. I see a LOT of unfinished wedding rings. LOL. I know why! I have one unfinished myself!
You have single-handedly started a whole new Dresden craze! I love it! Life is a big circle …..

These are all beautiful, Anne! I’m always pleased to see quilts or blocks that someone has rescued. I have a friend who has collected many quilts and tops from garage sales, and usually for just a few dollars (literally), because the owners didn’t appreciate their value. The ones that surprise me are those that someone’s mom or grandmother made, and they just want to be rid of them….I can’t even imagine!! I’m just glad there are enough of us (like Peg, above) who do appreciate how precious these items are. Thanks for sharing :)

Wonderful finds, delicious quilt blocks. I was lucky enough to find several vintage quilts and blocks a couple of years ago. As well as the beauty of them it was the history behind them, I don’t know the people, they’re from another continent, at least two of them are made with fabric from shirts & dresses from family members. I didn’t pay large amounts some of them needed repairs but I don’t care I love them. I feel privileged to be working on something our American cousins made or started :0)
I love visiting you I never go away disappointed.
