Obsessions: What are yours?

Obsessions other than fabric…what are yours?  What makes you crazy when you see it?  What’s the one thing you can’t resist buying?   Maybe clothes, shoes, dishes, thread, floss, scissors, books or magazines? Do you obsess about something else?  I can’t be the only one with a few obsessions can I?   Fess up!   My secret obsession is…

Paper and Pens!

I love pretty notebooks, fine paper, special pens and I just can’t help myself.  Last week my UPS man delivered the most wonderful box of paper and pens.  It was like Christmas.

I wish you could feel the smoothness of the paper.  It’s so yummy.  And the colors, can you stand it?  Shades of pink, lavender and pumpkin.  Heaven help me I can’t wait to write in these.  New spiral notebooks for taking notes when I’m working on a project.  New spiral notebooks for my “to do” lists and new pens and pencils to write them with.

Check out the pink fountain pen!  I picked a brown ink but I could have selected a multitude of colors.  And see that pink pencil on the left?  It’s perfect for drawing.  Who knows what will happen with a pencil like that!  To think that I can be inspired by a new notebook or pen!  I’ll share my shopping site for pens and paper just in case you obsess about these too…JetPens.com.

And if you obsess about Dresden plate quilts…while I was busy thinking about what to write in my new notebooks I found 1 more Scrappy Plate Kit…it’s on my website.

If you have a Dresden obsession like me,  just visit my Flickr group.   I’m there every morning to see if any new plates have appeared.  Best thing is it doesn’t cost any money and you don’t have to hide it from your husband!

Back soon!

I can definitely identify with the stationery obsession. I can spend ages browsing in a stationery store going up & down ALL the isles filling up a basket when I don’t actually need anything ;-) Another huge obsession besides the obvious fabrics is PLANTS. Being a hortuculturist it is a passion & depsite having a wholesale nursery I am forever buying more … my hubby just cannot understand that one!

Oh, my. I’m obsessed with color, form and order (not in an OCD way, I just love my newly renovated home and the peaceful feeling I get from having things in their proper places).

I have more than my share of yummy fabrics and yarns. Before the renovation I had enough books to stock a small bookstore. Now the books are down to a reasonable amount, and I have a craft space with plenty of room for storing all those wonderful supplies.

What a lovely blog, I’ve really enjoyed my visit and subscribed so I miss nothing. After my fabric and stitching supplies my passion & obsession is kitchen gadgets, pans and cooking pots, can’t resist them.
however like my Gran used to say, I dont smoke, don’t drink and I don’t go out with boys so I think I’d be forgiven lol.

My other half, Mr B cannot resist buying writing pads & pens & if theres a special deal he’s completely sold :0)

I must admit I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE a new box of Crayola Crayons and a package of freshly sharpened pencils. School supplies make me happy!

I have a thing for little boxes–fabric ones with zippers and wooden ones. My local wine shop sells empty wooden cigar boxes–I have WAY too many but they are great project boxes

Yes, “other than fabric”, my obsession seems to be yarn………but not just any yarn…………it has to be wool yarn, and, if possible, handspun, handpainted wool yarn. I’m running out of places to stash it in my house. I have to store it in plastic bags so moths won’t make it lunch. I seriously have to stop it now because I’m sure I’ll never have all the time I need to knit it all!

Anne, I have had a ‘thing’ for fountain pens since I was in junior high school. I bought a Waterman years ago to go with a journal my daughter gave me as a gift to write my poetry in after my first one was published and I save it purely for that purpose…BUT…that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love to have some for just jotting things down. Or using in my Bible study classes and of course, writing poetry before it’s finished and ready for the journal. Oh yes…I’m heading over to see if I can afford to feed my fountain pen ‘thing’ and maybe, just maybe get a pretty notebook to go with it. Thank you *I think* LOL. Big Hugs…

I am so glad to see another woman obsessed with old hardware stores. I adore them! You can find anything! Our Henne Hardware Store is the oldest hardware store in Texas! It is so famous….
I do seem to collect pink and purple pens too!

well if fabric’s out for an obsession, then i’d have to say i obsess about getting my quilting projects in order so i know exactly what i’ve got.

That’s how my stash is organized–by the quilts that i plan on making.
I’ve got everything i need for each specific quilt (except the batting) separated out into plastic bins and drawer units.
So far the count is just under 50 planned quilts. (That’s not counting scrappy quilts made from the left overs after cutting!) And yes, that count does include 2 dresden plate quilts; one with all dotty fabric that i’ve been collecting for about 4 years now! Thanks so much for helping me find a ‘quilt home’ for that yardage!

Bowls….blue bowls to be exact. I keep a stack on the counter in the kitchen that I use daily to cook with. The more bowls I use to fix a meal the happier I am. They nest together in just a certain way even though they aren’t a set. They have come from many different places or were gifts. They all hold memories as well as food. They made me smile…..

I love quilt magazines and dark chocolate I have a hard time staying away from them in the store and buying them. I have soooo many quilt patterns from magazine that I have organized them into large 3 ring binders by types of quilts. I love to look at them,

I could admit to being obsessed about everything on your list, too! I also love, love, love hardware stores! (especially the ‘old-fashioneed’ kind – but Home Depot works for me too!)

I adore wonderful paper, pens, stationery – a Paper Source store opened recently near me and I just drool looking at those lucious papers. Swoon!

then there is fabric – well, I know I don’t have tell anyone who reads this blog about fabric!!! A shared obsession by all!

Thanks, Anne, for making us all feel a bit better ‘cuz we know we’re not alone :).

I love linens, and handbags. I also collect cards, especially ones with great art work on the front. I have a habbit of collecting differnt size glass jars. As far as quilts go I am obsessing over quilts with stars on them.

OH this is hillarious. I have the same obssesion. I just bought a really cute notebook that has “Be Happy” on the outside. I love pens, fine ink, colored Pink is my fav but purple works for me too. I recently purchased some pencils that are #3 lead. They are much finer than the #5 lead but they do break easily. Funny! I thought I was the only one fruit loopy for pads of paper, pens and pencils. I like color pencils but they don’t come in as fine a lead and break more easily. I even use these little lovelies at work. I made a cover for one. That is on my list of things to do for the note books that are not so pretty. I have a notebook for each account I represent so they are like my orgainizational angels. I live on the computer but I can more easily write things and not seem like I’m not paying attention then typing away on the laptop. If I were on my laptop I might just wonder over to bunn….Opps, gotta get back to work :)

I am very healthy emotionally and have no obsessions…..LOL! I love pretty pens and notebooks, too, I feel more inspired using them. There is something about a fountain pen in hand that makes me feel like I’m Jane Austen and I want to keep on writing :) I love Jelly Roll pens, and see some extra fine gel pens on this site that look amazing, and they’re erasable! Then I noticed free shipping on orders over $25…this site is very enticing, thanks for sharing! Oh, and I love buying socks :)

My latest obsession seems to be containers – cutesy little ones, larger for storing bits and pieces, plastic, metal and even glass. Found a wonderful M&M tin this year for colored pencils and now I have taken to making pouches for storeing and carrying around my fabric. Wonder when this will end? JC

pens, notebooks, storage containers, shoes… :-)

I am interested in your starter kit. How is it different from the entire kit from the fat quarter shop? What is it missing? Is it just the fabrics for the plates? Thanks!

  • Hildy

Honestly I’m obsessed with many things: fabric, books, papers, pens, bags … I love all beautiful things. But hey, perhaps it’s a statement and not a obsession;-)

I’m thrilled to find another pen and paper addict :) I too love JetPens. I spend way too much money there. Would you share what notebooks those are? Also, I’ve had my eye on that same fountain pen. How do you think it writes? Great post! Thanks.

I have a teddy bear obsession that started when my husband gave me my first one shortly after we were married 29 years ago. Most of my bears are hand made. I’ve brought bears back from England and Canada. My sewing rooms has 2 levels of shelves going all around the room and they are filled with bears. ;p

  • Michelle

Ah!!!! Just started my wish list on that site….. Great pens!!! Thanks so much for showing your goodies…. I am excited to order a few of my own!!!!

  • Pam in Indiana

Oh, Anne! I, too, am obsessed with pens — pens just have to feel and write just right! Maybe it was when I started doing calligraphy. I love the jetpens site! Thanks for sharing this with us!! When I was changing planes at Narita in Tokyo, I found the coolest sparkley pink pens with wonderful fine points in a little gift shop! Now I have a site to look for more!!! Problem is that there are hundreds of pens at jetpens and I don’t know where to start to look. I do love all things pink and I especially love to find pink notebooks around the Breast Cancer Awareness campaign in October and now during Valentine’s Day. Is there a support group for people who love pink pens?

  • Barb

Mmmm nothing beats going into a stationary store, all those yummmy note pads, pens and coloured paper,envelopes,pencils……..I better stop now or I’ll have to go run to one to get my fix :) Barb.
