Today is American Jane Day at the Fair…
Wait until you see Miss Henny Penny!
Lissa Alexander at Moda Fabrics always has creative ideas…she stores them in her head and just pulls them out when she needs one. Amazing talent don’t you think? She came up with the idea of the Moda Country Fair Blog Hop and then she thought up all these things for us to do! Thanks Lissa, you are just so smart!
We’ve been talking about the Moda Country Fair for the last month around the studio and somehow Chelsea got the idea she was invited to the fair. She’s got these big brown eyes that make it really hard to say no…
So what do you tell a Chihuahua who thinks she’s going to a country fair? You tell her “OK, OK, you can go”!
There was no stopping her after I said that. Chelsea wanted to be in on everything. Everything? OK Chelsea, Lissa thought up questions for us to answer so if you’re “in” you have to answer them too!
Question #1: What’s your favorite fair food?
This question is way too easy for Chelsea to answer!
I hope Chelsea doesn’t tell Moda what I was really thinking when I was holding this cupcake pincushion!
Question #2: What’s your guilty pleasure?
Something no one knows… EVERY market my friend Anne and I load up on HOT TAMALES and CANDY CORN. We each bring several boxes and we have a sugar party the entire market. Fall market we eat the orange candy corn and spring market we eat the pastel candy corn. I’m addicted to these little treats and so is Anne.
…and Chelsea’s guilty pleasure? You’re not going to believe this but it’s Broccoli with butter!
Question #3: What’s on your bucket list?
Ha! Is Lissa kidding? This was way too easy for Chelsea (click on the picture to enlarge). I swear this dog is smarter than me! Why didn’t I think of the pink convertible? I want one too!
Question #4: What inspires your work?
You may not know it but Chelsea is part of the approval committee at Bunny Hill. She likes quilts with bunnies on them and she’s very vocal about it…she actually wanted me to design a quilt with a Chihuahua wearing bunny ears! Oh my what am I going to do with a Chihuahua who wants bunny ears?
MY favorite thing to do for inspiration is visit the flea markets…
When I think of a Country Fair I think of a cake walk…remember those? Since I can’t do a real cake walk, I did a cupcake pattern so everyone can have a little cake! You can choose from a cupcake banner or a cupcake pincushion!
And of course when you go to a country fair you’ll probably enter a raffle so let’s have one here. You don’t have to buy a ticket but you do have to leave a comment on this post. Here’s what we’re giving away…
3 Jelly Rolls of Puttin’ on the Ritz…a bundle of waffle cloth and satin for baby…
…and 16 wonderful Puttin’ on the Ritz scrap bags!
We’ll be picking 20 raffle prize winners! TWENTY!!! I’ll pick with a random number generator (Chelsea can’t be trusted to pick) and announce them on the 14th of September. Be sure and check back!
I hope you enjoy our Moda blog hop. Each day will bring you a new designer, more prizes and so many free patterns you’ll be jumping for joy! Country fairs just don’t get any better than this!
Hop on over to visit Barb and Mary from Me and My Sister Designs tomorrow. I adore these ladies and I bet you do too!
I love the pastels. My favorite color is pink—the color of your sewing machine!!! How about a give away of a pink sewing machine. LOL I am a mama to two toy fox terriers, so your dog pulls my heart strings.
I love the dogs!!! Lovely pattern. Thank you.
Greetings From Downunder!,

I just adore your whimsical quilt designs. I’m a fan, but feel not quite talented enough to attempt many of them. Funnel cakes sound really yummy right now. Thanks for a chance to win.
Does it count that I NEED to win these??? Anne, they are gorgeous. I have to agree with Chelsea, my favorite fair food is the old fashioned corndog, especially if they are slightly overcooked and extra crunchy. Now I’m going to be dreaming of corndogs for the rest of the day!!!!!
i hope it is OK to jump in late. i’m new to all this blogging, etc. I think the FAIR is a fantastic idea. If I need to do something other than this post somebody please le me know! :)Judy
The dogs are so cute. They gave me a smile for the day. Liked the cute cupcake pattern. When we go to the Minnesota state fair we always have to try several different vendors of corn dogs, pronto pups and others on a stick to determine the best. So much fun,

I also want to say thanks for the cupcake pattern, I think the pin cushion is a must for my sewing room( I should be able to save a few calories this way). I also took the oppurtunity to check out your blog and this little angel you are holding is so precious. I also have a 4 month old grandson and I agree, what could be more fun than spending time with our little sunshine babies.
This is so much fun! I love fairs. Your cupcakes are so cute! Thanks for the great prizes and chances to win.
Bunny Hill is always my go to fabric to make the cutest baby quilts. Don’t have any of puttin on the ritz yet but I would love some!
Thanks for the give-away opportunity! Love (and covet) my Bunny Hill stash!
What a cute dog!
My favorite fair food is definitely funnel cakes! yum!
My guilty pleasure is chocolate… Dove chocolate especially!!
I would love to scratch off my bucket list that I have been to France- Paris!
For inspiration I find it many places, blogs especially and quilting magazines and when I can I find it at the local quilt shop!
One of my favorite fair treats is the double dipped ice cream bar that’s rolled in nuts.
My guilty pleasure is white chocolate of any kind.
A little red convertable is on my bucket list, along with finishing all my UFOs (LOL)
For inspiration I love to read other people’s blogs and read quilting magazines. Then I’ll use a pattern with my own combo of fabrics, or change the pattern some to add my own touch to it.
Gosh, I really love your fabrics and patterns. It is the colors and combinations that really get to me. These giveaways would be fabulous for me to play with, and maybe even for the dolls I dress in my accidental (i.e. umplanned, due to requests from my friends) home sewing business with upscale clothing to fit the American Girls and other dolls. What fun!
That Henrietta Whiskers is just the best! I really enjoy reading your blog. Thanks!

Oh, I love the fabrics and the beautiful creations. You are such an inspiration. Thank you.
My inspiration can come from beautiful fabrics, sometimes just walking into a quilt shop or my fabric closet I can be inspired to put together a beautiful treasure. I’m also amazed when I think I have seen every antique quilt there is to see, another antique quilt will appear on a blog or website and will be added to my list of quilts to reproduce.
Fall is in the air, with attending a MODA FAIR! This is so much fun! Thank you for the wonderful designs…you talent is amazing and I appreciate the offer to win something.
I’ve certainly enjoyed your 3 quilt-alongs. Thank you for all your time and generosity in doing them. It’s been so fun and I learned so much about applique which I’d never done before. I’ll be looking forward to seeing your future patterns and fabric.
Love your designs and very creative blog. Thanks for the opportunity to join the raffle.
Anne, what a wonderful post. We are having a Church Fair and of course I volunteered to help. Hugs Gloria

It looks like Chelsea had a wonderful time at the fair, and why not. Honestly who can resist a fair. Maybe it’s the pull of funnel cakes.

Hi! Thanks for the chance to win some cool stuff!! I went to our county fair every year as a kid! All those fun rides, the foods, especially loved the sugar waffles – always going through all the buildings to see all the put-up foods, the quilts, crocheted & knitted things, the jams & jellies, and all kinds of produce. Great fun! I even entered some clothing the years I was in 4-H – not the best seamstress then, but I’ve improved. My daughter even wants me to make her wedding dress for next spring! Fun, fun!! I can hardly wait! I’m als working on y own quilts and household sewing too, so I keep busy!
Some Bunny loves Chelsea, how cute those bunny ears are just hopping!!!! Thank you Anne for the Cupcake Pattern, looks delish. Have a good time @ the fair, and thanks for sharing :)

Hi Anne,
Okay 1. Im with you, cotton candy is a fair must though my daughter devoured seveal candy apples!
2.Guiltynpleasure..my latest is caramel sea salt ice cream by Talenti. Ill just sneak out a spoonful..instant heaven..It has chocolate chunks in it as well.
3. I like the idea of a treat bowl that is always full but I would like to see Prince Edward Island, The Carolinas and Bouchard Gardens and FINISH all my UFOs!
4. My inspiration comes from the recepients of my quilts and projects. Yesterday it was a Batman pillow for my 4 year old nephews batman birthday party on Sunday.
5. I am definitely a candy corn lover! yesterday at Joanns they had bags of them at the checkout. i was strong and resisted but then marketed at Sprouts and bought a carton of the caramel sea salt gelato!! Your cupcake pattern is adorable! Puts me in the mode for a yummy cupcake!
I think both your pups should be taken to the fair. my girlfriend just posted photos of geese at the Nebraska fair wearing aprons!! Too funny!

Chelsea is a star! Thanks for the cupcake pattern and the chance to win your beautiful new fabric line.
I love your fabric very much! Hope I will be the lucky one to win.
I love the fabric! and cupcakes are my favorite. My husband and I served cupcakes at our mini wedding reception almost 10 years ago! :-)
Fair food: funnel cake. Mmmm, funnel cake. Be aware (this is VERY important) not to confuse funnel cake with the inferior “fried dough,” more popular in New England. For funnel cake, there is no substitute.
Guilty pleasure: Reese’s peanut butter cups. Frozen. When you buy them, you want to come home and tear into the package, but it is so worth waiting for them to freeze first. Mmmm. (your questions are making me hungry).
Bucket list: Half-iron triathlon. That’s 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run. Hey, I’ve got to do something to work off the funnel cake and Reese’s peanut butter cups.
Inspiration: Color, and quiet. I believe I have a talent for putting colors together and my sewing time is my “me” time after my little people go to bed. I need that time.
VERY CUTE cupcakes! Great idea for a birthday party banner!
Hee hee, loved that story! What fabulous prize too, thank you so much for giving me the chance to win.

You’ve made me hungry for cupcakes….
Awe…. such a great post — thanks for sharing. Love the fabric and the cupcake !!
Loved this post. So funny! Got me thinking about my bucket list… One of the items on it is to become a quilter. :) Working on that right now. I LOVE that fabric. Those are gorgeous colors!
#1- My favorite fair food is pork chops on a stick! But a funnel cake runs a close second!
#2- My guilty pleasure is homemade pie…with lard in the crust! Mmmm-mmm! But you can’t go wrong with chocolate Dove candies! ;) BTW- you should toss in some peanuts with your candy corn…tastes just like a Salted Nut Roll!
#3- Taking a cruise to Alaska is on my bucket list!
#4- Beautiful, vibrant dishes and children’s art work inspires me! Both are so colorful and HAPPY! :)
Your cupcake pattern reminds me of my friend’s daughter who bakes cupcakes as a business on the side. She entered her ‘special’ cake in the state fair and got third place in ALL the cakes!
Love the fabric line too and am hoping I am one of the lucky winners!
I went the the 4-H fair when I was visiting family in Indiana. The church tent makes the best chicken and noodles! I live in Southern California now and going the the fair around here just isn’t the same!
Love Country Fairs & cupcakes..I enjoy your blog , humor & of course your cute puppy. Love, Jan
I would love to see bunny ears on the doggie! My dogs would love it too. Keep on creating all those woderful patterns.
I went to the state fair last week, to see the quilts of course! The food wasn’t what I remembered from my childhood (but then, what is?) I couldn’t find those yummy donuts with the sprinkles… they tasted better than any other donuts!
I need to be careful reading this blog at work – people came to my desk to see what I was giggling about! Too cute!
Such a cute post! I love your new line <3 Thanks for the chance to win!
I just love reading what Chelsea has to say! I’m a scrap quilters who will definitely do justice to this giveaway.

I remember cake walks too! Love the pattern(s) – thanks so much for sharing. My favorite all time fair food would be cotton candy of course! I love your website and your yearly free patterns! Your work is really so cute and my granddaughters love the designs too! Thank you for them and for the opportunity to win your Moda Fair give-a-way! I have a chihuahua too and a long haired mini dashound and last but not least a chiweiner (1/2 chihuahua and 1/2 dashound) and would love it if you came up with doggie patterns for your month (yearly) patterns in the next year or so. I love my puppies too – they are my inspiration along with my grandbabies –
Love it when dogs talk and I especially love her bucket list.
Great giveaway – thanx for the chance to try to win some awesome, awesome fabric!
Fair food: scones with raspberry jam
Guilty pleasure: candied ginger
Bucket list: visit the small town in Norway where my grandfather was born
Inspiration: colors in nature – leaves, sky, water, mountains
I love country fairs! thanx for the chance
My favorite fair food is fried dough with hot butter and cinnamon and sugar. Gosh my mouth is watering and I’m just typing the words! Thank you for the chance at the give-away. Michele
Just love reading your blog. Can’t wait to make the cupcake banner.
I do love a country fair. I would have to go with hand dipped corndogs as my favorite.
Thanks for the cute patters.
I just love your fabrics, the colours are so gentle and it all reminds me of what I feel must have been a lovely time in early 20th century small towns in America.
The great things about this country fair are that it doesn’t matter if it rains, the food has absolutely no calories, you feet don’t hurt at the end of the day, no salesmen will phone after you enter all the raffles, you “win” lots and lots of great patterns and ideas, it doesn’t take any gas to get there, you get to take lots of side trips following the links at the different blog stops, you can make new “friends”, admission is free …
Thanks for the cupcake banner! Candy corns are my weakness this time of year.
I am going to a Country Living Fair next week. I love the Paris Flea Market too! I would rather be going to that next week! Thanks for the cupcakes. I hope I win a bag of fabric. How fun would that be!

Hi Anne,
I enjoyed reading the buckets lists. At the county fair, funnel cake is one item
I have to eat and another thing, I always look over the pretty quilts. I look forward
to making the cupcake banner. Thanks for the project!!
You have such a wonderful imagination-what fun you must have with your grandchildren! My two Burmese kitties, Tut and Cleo, would like to tag along with Chelsea and you (well, me as well) if you are going to have biscuits with the Queen. Tut and Cleo are royalty after all and they think that between the two of them, Chelsea and Bitsy, and possibly Mooch?, the Queen, and the Corgis, all global issues could be resolved amicably if everyone is on their best behavior. They said that you and I, and possibly the Queen as well, could go to the flea markets during the serious diplomatic discussions, as long as we fly home on a separate jet. I personally am ready to accept their conditions if the invitation comes through. Thank you very much for your consideration.
On behalf of Tut and Cleo,
their servant,
Kathryn
Oh, P.S. Cleo would like to spend a day shopping on Regent St. please.

We have a State Fair in Minot ND every summer in July, this year for the first time it was canceled due to flooding. So we all missed our favorite treats, footlong hot dogs, mini donuts, cotton candy and much much more including wondeful entertainment. The Blackeyed Peas put on a concert last weekend to raise money for flood victims, what a success. We are looking forward to a wonderful State Fair in 2010!
Your Banner is wonderful, will be making one soon! Thank you
I grew up outside of Phoenix and I loved the indian fry bread at the AZ State Fair which was in November I believe — unlike Indiana when it is in August. Now that I am a transplanted Hoosier, I love the tenderloins, funnel cakes and roasted corn. I think I have a thing for fried foods although since doing the South Beach diet, I don’t eat that much frieds stuff any longer! When you said you ate tamales I thought you meant real Mexican tamales! I love candy corn and peanuts together — I thought it was wierd at first but it is addictive!!! When my BFF quilting buddies from South Bend and I get together in the fall to quilt in a log cabin outside of Shipshewana, I bring that to share. Love your give away — love your sweet cupcake pattern! Love this County Fair shop hop…my first! And your bucket list looks a lot like mine! Finally convinced DH to paint our oak veneer kitchen cabinets white — I am thinking black granite counter tops a la Ina Garten!!! Did instruct our daughter Madeleine to bring home a paella pan & saffron from Spain (where we just sent her on Labor Day for a semester of study abroad in Toledo) and anything from Paris when she goes!

When I was in 4-H there was a food stand run by a German couple. She had these round dough balls that she would split in half and fill with a pie filling. She called them fat balls and I always had her fill it with lemon. Hated the name, but “oh my” loved that treat. Love the fabrics, I have lots of people I know having babies, so I could really put it to good use.
Love the bucket lists, might have to do one of my own! What’s ‘cnady corn’ ???? I’m in Australia & i’ve never heard of it. Perhaps if I win you coud pop some into my prize (wishful thinking)Love the banner, I have a few birthday’s coming up I think I’ll whip up a banner to decorate the house!

Anne – I LOVED your post this early AM in NJ. Our “local” fair was about a month ago, and I must say my favorite treats as of late are fried oreos and funnel cake. Do you believe I’ve never eaten a corn dog, they just seem too doughy to me. However my son loves them. I love your little sweeties and have a great time at the fair :) Thanks for the raffle ticket and a chance to win some of your lovely fabric.
