National Smore’s Day!
Did you know today is National Smore Day? Can you believe it? Really, I don’t make this stuff up. Every August 10th is Smore Day.
It would take an act of Congress to make it an official holiday…the kind where everyone gets a day off to stay home and make Smores. We all know Congress could never agree on this one, so for now it will remain an unofficial holiday, but it’s still a day that’s fun to celebrate!
So get thyself to a store and pick up some:
Honey Graham Crackers
Marshmallows
Hershey Chocolate Bars
You can make smore’s in a microwave. I did that early this morning in honor of smore day. Then of course I did a taste test and found that it’s just not the same as those marshmallows roasted over a campfire or a grill.
Rumor has it that Smore’s were invented by the Camp Fire Girls! Sorry Girl Scouts you don’t get the credit. I was once a Bluebird and a Camp Fire Girl so they get the credit for these.
Maybe plan a barbeque tonight, roast some chicken, veggies and then serve the Smore’s for dessert. Add a few strawberries to the plate and you’re sure to have family asking if they can have smore (sorry, I just couldn’t help myself).
Have a great day!
Anne
Almost forgot to tell you…for some reason when you leave a comment on my blog it’s no longer emailed to me. I’ve tried everything possible in Word Press and still no luck. So…I’ve been reading and responding to your comments directly on the blog until I get this figured out…

A few weeks ago several of the nurses that I work with realized that we’d all been Camp Fire Girls. Of course there are some Girl Scouts amoung us as well. Anyway, we were remembering some of the songs and making sit upons… We ended up looking something up and found information about “Wo-He-Lo” and how work is life. We decided that Camp Fire Girls and the values of work, health and love was why we are still working nights in a NICU!? I even found my Blue Bird ring and took my ceremonial gown, beads and all, to work for ‘show and tell’. Then I saw your post about S’mores. I didn’t have time to get the ingredients to make S’mores on the 10th, but we’re planning a little S’mores event next weekend when we work together. I was challenged to bring my sit upon (it’s long gone to mulch) so now I have to try and remember how to make one… The S’mores post was so timely and we’re getting a good laugh out of our Camp Fire past. We refuse to acknowlege the Girl Scout myth of being the originators of the S’more, but we will share with them. We were shocked by how much a ‘vintage’ Blue Bird pin was going for on E-Bay!

Hi Anne — I’ve had this comment problem for about a year now and it drives me crazy. For my wordpress it’s totally random — I get about half of my comments forwarded to my e-mail. When I have time I sit and go through them and individually reply to them, but it’s a big time suck. Good Luck — and if you find a solution, please share!

I guess it doesn’t really matter who first started S’mores – I’m just happy that whoever it was – did!!

Greetings from Northern Saskatchewan CANADA! What a wonderful idea for a day! I love the plate you served it on!!!!!!!!!!!!
Found this on Wikipedia though:
While the origin of the dessert is unclear, the first recorded version of the recipe can be found in the publication “Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts” of 1927!!!!!!!!!!! You can read the rest on Widipedia under S’more but it does say that Girl Scouts did have the first known report!

I signed up for Brownies once and then forgot all about it. They kicked me out after no-showing for three meetings! Story of my life! Love the stories. Smore, please! :)

So far we have 3 Campfire girls, 1 ex Brownie. I think we’re becoming an endangered species. LOL! Good thing we all like Smores!

I eat these each and every Summer. LOVE them. I double up on the marshmallows to make them extra messy and sticky. Thank goodness for simple pleasures.
