Photography Bug

I have the photography bug and if you own a digital SLR camera one of these days you’ll get it too.  I don’t think I realized that behind the camera is me and I’m the one who determines how that photo will look!  I always thought it was the camera.  If you want to learn photography take an online class at Lynda.com.  You’ll get an understanding of your camera, settings, lenses and so much more!   Mooch has offered to demonstrate…

Here’s the original photo shot in aperture priority so the background is blurred.  Enlarge the photo and you’ll really be able to see!

Here’s Mooch softened and cropped using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom software

Oh my I really should have cleaned her eye.  No problem I can do it in Photoshop!

Here’s the photo after the white balance was adjusted using the auto setting in Lightroom.  One click and the yellow cast is gone.  My gray cat is back!

Then I went outside to practice shutter speed.   Mooch loves to watch our humming bird feeder.   She does this little “chatter” thing when she’s bird watching.  If you have a cat you’ve probably heard it.  It’s kind of like a vibrating meow!  Strange.

The hummers really put on a show!   I set my camera to shutter priority and a fast shutter speed and ta da I captured them in flight!  I think we have at least 3 humming birds, maybe more.  They were moving so fast I couldn’t tell!

One of my resolutions this year is to learn all I can about taking photos.  If you have a digital SLR pick up that camera and practice changing the settings. It’s so much fun!

Have a great Tuesday everyone!

I would absolutely love to have an Oliso iron. The innovative design is perfect for quilting. I would certainly be a proud owner!!!

I have not found an Iron that I am that pleased with using. Right now I have a Rowenta Iron which was said to be one of the best irons, esp among quilters. I don’t like it at all but put up with it since I have it!! I would love to own an Oliso iron and put my Rowenta to rest!!

The OLISO Iron would be fabulous to have, especially for my quilting projects that require pressing between sewing on the project.I would love to have it to take to Retreats and classes as well as for use at home.I don’t have an iron that has such wonderful features as the Oliso.

I would love to win this Oliso iron. I have dreamed about owning one forever! The auto-rise feature and large pressing area are my favorite features. Pick me…. pick me!!!!!

How I would love to win the Oliso iron!!! I have about 3 irons-one of them a Rowenta that spits too much water out. I haven’t purchased another one because I didn’t know what kind to get. I am a quilter and appliquer and think this iron would meet all my needs. It would be great for ironing those wrinkled cotton shirts and khaki’s. Thank you for the opportunity to try one of these new irons. Love your website and freebie patterns.

Wow ! would this 71 year old forgetful quilter love to have this iron. I am an ironer and sometines need to get out of bed to check if I turned mine off.

I am thrilled with the opportunity to possibly win the Olisio Iron.I currently own a $17 iron as I have not had much luck with irons. I believe I do not know how to choose the correct iron. Having someone help me with the decision would be delightful. Thank you again for this opportunity.

I would love to “win” the Oliso Iron, as I seem to be always purchasing a new one. I have tried so many look for the best one, even the Rowenta and it’s in the landfill somewhere. I love a heavy iron and there aren’t many out there. Thank you and thank Oliso Iron for letting us to try to win and try their new iron. When the iron becomes available in the stores, I probably will buy it. Like what it says about it.

Brilliant photos, thanks for this info. Maybe a follow up on how best to photograph your quilts & craft items. My pics of finished masterpieces never show the items at their best. xx

Wow! I have take so many hummingbird pictures that when you look at the picture the little guy is gone, because they are so fast and my camera so slow. Maybe it is time for a real camera! Thanks for the link!

Anne, your pics are beautiful! I’m also fascinated by my cats and hummingbirds, great subjects! I recently got a new camera but haven’t had time to sit down and learn all it can do. It’s amazing how many features it has…and a touch screen. Even my Photo Library has adjustments I can make to my pics. My dh is an avid photographer and does work for non-profit orgs, so I get lots of direction from him.
I hope you gave Mooch some tasty treats after she posed for you :-)

Anne, I love the photos and the little demonstration was very cool. Our digital camera is so old we can’t even buy a photo card for it anymore…we have to download the pictures to the computer then delete them from the card, LOL. I especially love the hummingbirds. I miss mine so much during the winter. Last summer when I was recouping from my surgery, I would take my stitchery out by the hummingbird feeders and watch their antics as I stitched. Of course I found myself doing more bird watching than stitching. I can’t wait for April to roll around so I can get my hummers back. Hugs….

Hummers are fascinating. If you sit very, very still, they’ll buzz up to you and check you out. They especially like it if you’re wearing a print with red flowers. :D

    Mooch is precious!

Wish my Enzo loved the lens as much as Mooch. I believe that in a former life he was famous and was hounded by paparazzis and thus hates the camera!
