Quiltaid USA
One person can make a difference in the world. I believe that. It becomes easier to make that difference if you join people together as a group. And when that group is made up of quilters need I say more?
Please join me, 11 other designers, 6 shops, Moda Fabrics, and Presencia Threads as we come together for charity. If you haven’t heard about Quiltaid USA, you’ll be hearing about it soon. Maybe you saw this ad in American Patchwork and Quilting last month?
The theme: From Heart to Home. Moda provided the fabric and Presencia provided the pearl cotton for embroidery. The 12 designers (6 Australian and 6 American) each designed a block and the shops each designed a finishing kit. You can see them all on the Quiltaid web site, as well as read all about the program.
The charity? The Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia. The funds raised from Quiltaid USA 2010 will be donated to this hospital through 2 charities; One in the US, The Fistula Foundation and one in Australia, Hamlin Fistula Relief and Aid fund. When I was first asked to participate I had to research Obstetric Fistula. In a country like ours we rarely hear that word. I had no idea what it was. Other countries are not as fortunate and in Ethiopia, Obstetric Fistula is prevalent.
By participating in Quiltaid USA, you are doing a bit of good in the world and having fun at the same time. Make a quilt that represents Heart and Home! Choose the finishing kit of your choice, then visit the six shops to purchase all 12 blocks. You’ll find my block at www.shabbyfabrics.com .

Thank you. I got mine. I also, want to thank you for doing this. I am a middle school teacher and we are raising money for wash stations so students can wash their hands after using the bathrooms. My students could not belive how bad the schools were in parts of world. The toilet is a hole in the ground with a board and no water. Girls have to quit school to carry water for their homes.thanks again

Wow, Anne, I truly LOVE your block! This really is a worthwhile charity, and I do hope you raise more than you ever dreamed possible. I’m sure your readers will all be doing their part, who can resist another of your creations? I never need an excuse to hop over to Shabby Fabrics, one of my favorite sites :-)
