Christmas & Winter

It’s October!

Christmas has arrived at Bunny Hill!  Well, at least “The Night Before Christmas”!  Did you know that this was the poem that changed the way we think of Santa Claus?

“The Night Before Christmas” brought us Santa’s mode of transportation, how he looks and even the names of his reindeer!  Clement Moore originally wrote it for his children!  Imagine having a father who could write poems like this!  And now almost 200 years later it’s still a universal poem that children love to hear! So many variations of this poem have been published over the ages.  Hard to know exactly what the original poem was.  One thing for sure;  Santa’s bag is full of toys and he’s bringing them to good girls and boys!

I’ve used to read this poem to my own children and I know it by heart, probably just like you!  This quilt evolved more than ususal as I designed it.  My drawings changed as new mice were needed, until each mouse found a home in the quilt.  It was fun to watch them come to life sometimes in places I never expected!

There are 8 mice.  Can you find them all? Finished Quilt Size is 52″ x 62″

Featured Fabric:  “La Petite Ecole” by French General & Moda Fabrics

I’ll have a fabric guide available that you can download as a PDF soon.  I’ll let you know as soon as it’s ready!

And of course I can’t forget the new Snowbound block!  Here we are at number 10!  Two more and you’ll be finished!!!

This little snow lady is embellished with a beaded necklace!  And if you’re going to carry a peace sign make sure it’s pink! That little lamb looks like she likes it!  Hopefully your quilt is looking something like this by now.  Just one more row to go!

If you entered my “guess the name of my new block of the month contest” for The Night Before Christmas,  I’ll be announcing the winner late next week.  I’m waiting for patterns to arrive so I can include one in the gift basket!  And remember that 5″ square of pink that threw you off when you were trying to guess?  It was used for faces and hands;  children and Santa!  Oh that was so bad!  That one really threw you all off!  Sorry!

Enjoy the day.  I’ll be back soon!

Anne

Hi Anne, I love The Night Before Christmas and think I will be ordering this one if I’m not the lucky winner. My youngest daughter has three gorgeous little girls of her own and I can see the three stockings at the top being personalised with their names.
And I’m loving the snowmen even though snow is something we never get in my part of Australia, or, in fact, in most of Australia.

Oh Anne, your little Mr and Ms mice are just as sweet as can be! This quilt in these fabrics is just adorable! I did find all eight of these darling little critters in their holiday dress. Isn’t it great to now be reading this same poem to the grandkids? And I can’t say enough about the new Snowbound block, can hardly wait to make this one! Wow it is so much cuter than I imagined! I love your work. When I can save up the money (which will be a while with our current financial situation) I am so going to get Le Jardin! It is my favorite pattern so don’t discontinue it anytime soon. I am so excited I hope I win the prize! And thank you for the chance.

Hi Anne, It is great to see the Quilt at long last. It is just beautiful and your choice of fabrics is perfect for it!
Happy Birthday, Bitsy from Sandy and Honeybunny. :-)

  • Jean

Anne: The Night Before Christmas turned out soooooo cute!!! And to make it with French General fabric, perfect! Be sure to give Bitsy a big birthday kiss from me on the 7th. She is one of my favorite dogs. Maggie sends her best as well.

Anne, I just love your new block of the month The Night Before Christmas. I have collected miniature mice sculptures called Wee Forest Folk for over 25 years and have a curio cabinet full. I’m going to have to have this pattern. Happy Birthday to Bitsy! on Thursday. Thanks, Karen M

  • Eleanor

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anything cuter than the little mousie in longjohn pj’s! (OK, Chelsea and Bitsy are cuter, of course, but that’s a given.)

  • Angie

Anne your new BOM is so cute. What fabric did you use? Do you know which shops are going to carry this with fabric yet? Thanks for always coming up with the “perfect” designs. I love everything you do.

  • Vicky

Your Night Before quilt is absolutely adorable! I’m behind on your Christmas quilts, but I plan to finish each one and enjoy them for years and years!

  • Diana

What an adorable quilt! Yes, I found all 8 darling mice. And want to thank you again for the Snowbound BOM. That little sheep reminded me of “Shaun the Sheep”~~Baa! Baa!

  • Deb

Love the quilting on the Night Before Christmas quilt. Did everyone see those mittens in the quilting??? Anne, that was excellent!!! I love all the little mice! Thanks for the next snowbound block!

  • Linda P.

The Night Before Christmas…….need I say it?? It’s a must!! I am just finishing two of your quilts, hand appliqued, and was going to take a break …. I need to do this one too!! I love how you can take any of your segments and they can stand on their own for a small quilt or accent pillow, but I haven’t yet, always made the whole thing… I’ve been pretty busy, and didn’t get my fabric til late, so didn’t start the snowbound, but I have them printed and will do them – so precious, and it’s really all about winter, so can be left out. Thanks so much Anne. Busy month for you – take care!!

Anne, I forgot something very important. I neglected to say ‘THANK YOU’ so much for the Snowbound patterns!!! I have started a table runner with three of the blocks and it is looking really festive so far. I plan to re-stitch the three blocks so that I can also make the quilt. Hugs…

Anne, The new Snowbound block is just too much fun! The peace sign caught my eye immediately, and the adorable little sheep looking at it. My hubby was in Vietnam in the late 60’s and I of course owned a big ‘Peace’ sign pendant that hung almost to my waist, but I didn’t wear it while he was over there. I still have it tucked away in my ‘Memory Box’. I really love MS Snowlady’s beaded necklace. She is VERY good at accesorizing her outfits isn’t she!!! Oh my gosh, “The Night Before Christmas” is even more wonderful than I expected…I give it a 12 on the “Wonderful Scale” of 1 – 10! *wink* I am so excited to finally see it. I’m completely in love with the mice and YES…I found them all! OH, and thank you for the heads up on the price increase on the Cosmo Multiwork 2 strand floss on the spool. I had to laugh because I finally broke down and ordered 3 spools in the ‘Redwork Red’ just last night. I can’t wait for them to arrive! I’m hearing and reading so many great reviews about all the Cosmo threads. If I could have my Christmas Wish, after Peace on Earth, (that of course has to be the first wish), I would ask Santa for one of every single color and style of Cosmo embroidery theads. (I must make sure my hubby sees this wish somehow, LOL.) Ah well, a girl can dream can’t she??? Well Anne, have a wonderful time at Market and I’ll be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers for a safe travel and a successful trip. Hugs….and here’s one extra to pack away for your trip!((((((((((((Hug))))))))))))

You are pretty sneaky. I love the mice, I had pet mice as a child and they were wonderful inquisitive little creatures. This is definitely another one of your patterns I will make.
Thank you for Snowbound Block 10, I’m really enjoying this project. Thanks for sharing so generously.

  • Bernie

The Night Before Christmas is beautiful. I’m surprised how much I like the dull,(no, make that SUBDUED colors. Soothing, Peaceful, Vintage-y.

  • Pam

Oh, Anne! You did throw me with the pink hint. That was all I could think about — that and Paris. But I love the new Night Before Christmas! It is so sweet. Once in a while we have to think out of the pink box, don’t we? It puts me in the spirit of Christmas with the temp last night in the 30’s. But alas, it is supposed to be in the 80s by the weekend. That is how the weather is in Indiana. It will probably snow the next week!

And THANK YOU so much for the new Snowbound Block!!! It is downloaded and saved!

  • Vivian

What a great pattern. I love it. Of course, with the way I love Christmas decorations, this pattern will definitely be a must for my home.

I can’t wait until the last two blocks of snowbound come out. I used a bright medium blue with a bright red. The contrast of these two fabrics is so beautiful.
