Paris Mode

I’m in the Paris mode judging from the guesses coming in for my new Block of the Month!  You have me wishing for a pink, French Christmas quilt! Ahh, how many of you would really buy a pink Christmas quilt?  Sale of one pattern to Bunny Hill but the rest of you?   Well you saw the fabric I’m using in my last post and I’m in more of a universal mode, but I’m always dreaming of Paris…

I loved Paris and  I would return in a minutes’ notice just for a chance to browse the flea markets for treasures!  Anyone ready for a Paris treasure hunt?  I actually looked up costs online today for next year.  I’m hooked don’t you think?

I paid 10 Euros for this card of vintage Mother of Pearl buttons. It was a bargain.   I would have paid more, I loved them so much.  I’m not good at bargaining.  I hate it, but I made myself ask if they would take less in my most French sounding English.  At the same vendor I paid 25 Euros for one button. The bargaining didn’t work at all.  I really wanted that button from 1880 and so I paid the money.   Can’t show it to you now because I’ll be using it for something in the spring.  You’ll appreciate it more when you see it.

As for that  5″ square of pink in my block of the month?   Try looking at some of my other block of the months to see how I’ve used “pink”!  Do you think I’ve used the entire square or do you think maybe I cut it up?

Guess what?  We have a few correct guesses in the contest already!  If you guess right you’ll get an email confirming that you’ve been entered in the contest.

Quilt shops can email me directly for the “La Petite Ecole” fabric sku’s I’ve used.

One more question for today.  How many of you have Facebook pages and why?  I’ve been visiting Facebook and I’m not sure I “get it”.   Do you actually  use Facebook?   Do you use it every day?

Back soon!

Anne

I guess I could not let the day pass without another stab at this. I have not seen anyone mention chipmunks or squirrels but then again perhaps someone did and I missed it. This sure does have us all in a quandry. I like that word.

  • Sarah B.

Reading everyone else’s blogs is more than enough time on the net for me! So, I was looking over all your other patterns and you seem to use the pink for a focus animal OR as an accent. Hum, I am still stumped but I like the Christmas alphabet idea since I am working on one now. Also I like the Advent calendar with animals! But my favorite guess is still a Christmas Tiny Town… :o)

  • Liz

Awesome buttons! I have some vintage buttons on cards found at a church garage sale! I wonder if the quilt will be Christmas through the eyes of a child? Alphabet letters , small animals, toys….hmmm.

  • Edie

    Anne,

Yes I use Facebook — the only way to communicate with my sons!

I still think the quilt will be a BOM of a Christmas village with browns and pinks!

Thanks for all the wonderful quilt patterns.

  • Ina

I didn’t get an email from Anne or Bitsy so I’m out of luck! ;0

Yes, I have a Facebook page….only because I was nagged into submission. Do I use it? No. ;0

  • Barb Colvin

I’m guessing your love for Paris will be translated into a French Christmas theme for your BOM. As for facebook, I use it to connect with family and friends. I like the chat feature. I block all of the game applications and steer clear of the ‘I like or heart’ posts because of spam. One of the most important things to remember is: don’t put it on facebook unless you want the whole world to know.

I am crazy for buttons and love the ones you brought back from Paris. I once spent $35 on a single, fabulous button that I used as the top closure on my winter coat. Than I lost some weight, gave the coat away and forgot to take the button off first. I was, of course, devastated when I realized what I had done. Oh well, I hope it gave someone else the joy it gave me. As to facebook- I do have an account and love to keep up with people that I wouldn’t normally phone or e-mail. Our family also uses it to share pictures and send fun little messages. I enjoy it and don’t take it too seriously. Just keep your settings on private if you don’t want tons of unsolicited comments.

I’d buy a pattern for a pink Christmas quilt! A few years back I did a mystery class for some friends. It turned out to be a table runner and I told everyone to make it out of Christmas fabric so they would have something for the holidays. One of my friends actually got mad at me because I used a pink/brown/silver colorway. Sheesh!

My guess for the new quilt was The Twelve Days of Christmas, which I think is still a good guess. But you have used pink for hearts, flowers, banners with sayings, stars, and packages. So I think I’ll add a guess that maybe you are going to do a Patriotic Quilt!

  • Laura Tawney

Well I think this is going to be my final guess: I could see an English theme with a Thatched roof cottages from the Cotswolds, grazing sheep, snowman, birds, christmas book, sled, perhaps a deer, an owl, a christmas mail box and a bird carrying a letter, and bunnies! I’m sure there is more but whatever it is I’m sure it will be lovely!

Oh, and I really only use Facebook to keep up with kids. Don’t really care for it – and don’t post hardly at all on my home page. It’s funny but I find some of my adult kids only want to text or facebook and then they don’t even email and forget answering the phone. What I find it has to be in small sound bites I guess???

I have a facebook account but I hardly ever visit it. My husband’s sisters (they live in another country) use facebook alot. So sometimes I’m forced to visit if I want to keep up with that side of the family. I’m with you, I don’t get it either. I actually find facebook kind of annoying.

  • Diane

I am signed into Facebook, but I’m not too excited about it. My daughters are really into it with all their friends and cousins, and it’s a great way to keep up, but it’s just not my thing. I’m more into reading all the great quilting blogs!

I’ve already guessed old fashioned, vintage quilt ornaments or toys — I guess that 5 x 5 scrap of pink could be used for faces or tiny bunnies. I can’t imagin a quilt pattern of yours without animal friends of some sort!

  • Andrea

This is a tricky one….the first thought that comes to mind is children and toys…perhaps Little Drummer Boy inspired? I LOVE the fabric, and can’t wait to see it!!!
I use facebook daily. It is a way for me to keep in contact with my university and highschool friends that have scattered accross N. America. I love being able to share pictures of my family and keep up to date with people whom I may never otherwise see or talk to again =)

  • Pauline

A Country Christmas BOM, a Santa BOM or an ABC Christmas BOM. The clue from way back……the other animal you like to draw ….. could it be …….. sheep. You do collect sheep. If I could only think like you………this would be easy. Looking forward to receiving that all important email from you.

I do not facebook, tweet, or text….I don’t have an Iphone, and my old cell phone is usually turned off. I got an Ipod for Christmas last year and not sure how to work it. I just started blogging and I’m struggling with that. I already spend too much time on the computer. Unless I find a way to get 36 hours in a day I’ll stick to quilting or stitching my embroidery. Hugs

    Hi Anne!
I love those buttons. I am a button-holic! I have jars of them in my sewing room. I am a sucker for vintage buttons, lace and fabric! I especially love little baby vintage buttons…I am hopeless. Anyway, your BOM HAS to have bunnies. Maybe little French soldiers standing guard or sitting at a sidewalk cafe, or strolling with an embrella. Christmas is in the air and it is crisp and blistery…bunnies…has to have bunnies.
I love Facebook. I have my privacy settings for family and friends. I review restaurants and show pics or show my current projects. It is fun to stay in contact with other quilter friends and family.
    Love,
    Mary

  • Vicky

I have a Facebook account, but the moment I set it up, I had people I’ve never heard of bombarding me to be friends. Yikes, that scared me. So I’m mostly just a reader now.

Okay, so my lunch hour today will be spent pouring over your BOMs! You’re such a tease! I’m convinced I’m going to figure this out!!!

Great buttons! Need a handler on your next trip to Paris? :)

  • Jocelyn

No facebook for me. Nor do I tweet or text. I spend enough time on the computer as it is, I do not want my life engulfed in the facebook craze. I agree with some of the other comments. I think you learn way too much (probably some things you don’t need to know).

  • Denise in PA

I would buy/make a pink Christmas quilt o:) Yes, I have a Facebook page. My kids made me. You learn way too much about your kids and their friends from Facebook. But, sometimes it’s the only way to know what’s going on. Like when your (adult) son is in the hospital!!! It was no big deal, but I had to find out on Facebook when I saw the photo of him laying in the ER giving a “thumbs up.” Great, just great. LOL!

  • Bette

Your hints are too “obtuse” (obscure?)as my husband would say. I have a Facebook page, but never post…..my kids call me a “stalker”..I read what everyone else is up to.

  • Linda P.

I’ve been racking my brain, but want to say something pertaining to Christmas Primer or ABCs – whatever, I love the fabrics!! Buttons – yay!! Love them too!! And yes, I would buy a pink Christmas kit. Yes, I Facebook, but have quit playing the games I used to play would rather see my favorite designers there, with links to what I am intereseted in… like one stop fun. Hugs to Bitsy – Sunny Boy has learned to train us also!!

  • Stephanie

Those buttons had your name on them–waiting for a trip to the US. Lovely. Clueless on your new BOM but it’ll be fantastic for sure.

I do not facebook, tweet, text, have an ipad or iphone, and try to avoid my cell phone (I only have that for emergencies and college kids to phone home.) My blog is the most technological thing I “do” besides e-mail. Lots of Facebook fans out there…

  • Anne-Lise

I think there will be bunnies – and the pink has been cut to make noses … children’s toys …
I have used Facebook, but not so much now – I found it a time thief and not so much fun as reading blogs.

  • Nancy Coffeen

I’m really stumped. I thought for sure it was going to be “A French Christmas”. Or what about a “Christmas in the Countryside”?
I really like Facebook and use it every day. I think your fan base would grow and grow and there is a real need for more sites for quilters. Hope you go for it!
Thanks for all of the animal pictures……so many wonderful pets!

  • Joanne Moore

Well I am totally flumoxed by the clues. Le Petite Ecole just makes me think of all the years of school Christmas shows we had to endure..I mean enjoy..I even had the pleasure of organizing the third grade’s contribution for 2 of my kids…nice big Catholic school classes of 40+…my sons class oddly mostly boys… I had them sing Santa Claus is coming to town so they could whoop it up. The alphabet on the fabric reminds me of “Heis making a list.” So maybe that is the theme..or just the School Christmas play.
    LOVE the buttons! Tres Jolie!

  • Diane

I’m on Facebook every day as is my grown daughter and her friends who live far away and in many directions. I get to see all the photos she posts and what she’s up to as she tells all to her buddies. I’ve also found very easily many of my high school classmates for the 40th reunion I’m planning! Connecting with people from my past is to me as Paris is to you, Anne!

  • Sivje Parish

Hm…I am wondering if the quilt blocks could be based on Christmas presents, or maybe letters to Santa.
My last thought would be birds, bunnies and woodland creatures.

And as to Facebook, I have a page, but I mostly use it for social contacts. I check in a few times every day.

  • Mary on Lake Pulaski

Love the buttons and will be watching for that special one you purchased.
Yes, I am on Facebook and use it every day. It’s a great way to share photos among my huge family, especially those spread across the country. All of kids and my nieces and nephews use Facebook and with it I can stay connected. I also play Scrabble with a few people on Facebook since my husband doesn’t play.

  • Sue Ericksen

I use Facebook to stay in touch with my family and friends that over the country. Until I signed up I was always wondering what was going on with everyone. Now I can check in once in a while to see what everyone is up to, especially my grandkids who live in another state.

The fabrics would make a great French Country Joyeux Noel quilt.

  • Louise

I need to give this one more try before bedtime..So how about birds of some type…?? I have been reading the comments and there are some really good guesses there. You must be having a lot of fun reading these.

  • Marsha

I did buy a “pink” Christmas quilt pattern. The Vintage Spool’s “Noel” pattern is heavily pink, and absolutely cute! You and Verna seem to be my favorite quilt designers, so vintage/shabby chic styles.

Are you going to have yo-yos in it? I just adore “Yo-yo-ville”, and all 297 yo-yos!

  • Sharon Stroud

I’m steering clear of Facebook. I tried it briefly but it was “weird”. Plus no security is really good enough, and you hear about compromises all the time. Some love it, some use it as a tool, but I figure a blog and a website are all I want out there. Hope that helps!

Another guess for the contest: Rabbits do the 12 days of Christmas. Or Rabbits celebrate an old-fashioned Christmas. Okay, I guess that’s two guesses ;-)

  • Louise

Okay, I am really thinking hard here and was wondering if it could be a forest or woodland scene with applique featuring a bit of snow and of course bunnies running all around. All of this encirled with pieced blocks..Perhaps an evergreen tree block or a star block. Maybe I am pushing it here..

  • Marsha

Those are yummy pink buttons, vintage is great. But then again, I could be classified “vintage”! With all of the news stories about Facebook being compromised for different reasons, I will not be part of it.

  • pam seaberg

Those buttons are to die for. A friend of mine was in Paris a few years ago and bought some wonderful vintage buttons. I bought a couple of cards from her. I just started facebook myself. It has been a good way of keeping in touch with people you don’t email, or see a lot. Try it, I like it.

  • Louise

I absolutely love those lovely oval buttons. I am a pushover as well for vintage buttons especially mother of pearl. Hmmm I am wondering on your theme …it wouldn’t be April in Paris would it? I really like that French General line. I am currently working on two using Kari Meng’s fabrics. I should finish them up just about the same time.
