Fresh Eggs?
So here’s some egg trivia for you! How do you tell if the eggs in your refrigerator are fresh?
Take the simple water test!
1. Put the egg in a bowl with room temperature water. Fill with enough water to cover the egg.
2. If the egg sinks and rests horizontally, it’s very fresh. If the larger end of the egg starts to rise, your egg is about one to two weeks old. Still ok to eat.
3. If the egg floats, throw it out! It’s a “bad egg” so to speak.
These are Farm Fresh eggs that I know are about two weeks old. I was wondering if they were ok to eat so I gave them the test.
Can you see the larger end standing up a bit? I did this test with the fresh eggs we just bought at Safeway and the same exact thing happened. The fresh eggs from Safeway might be about two weeks old before they make it to the stores. Told you, egg trivia for what it’s worth.

Our day is always quiet….reflecting on past years. Our children are grown, live in other states. We do (dog cookie hunts) with our seven dogs. The kitties got special breakfast and we are just enjoying our spring day. I’m working on several quilts, and doing a blue bird applique. Lot’s of bluebirds in our nest boxes. So enjoy everyone. And yes, Rabbits Prefer Chocolate is a special one, as well as Strawberry Hill!

We just finished painting Easter eggs. We then have Egg Fights with them! It’s a tradition from my husband’s side. It’s fun. Meanwhile, the cat waits (impatiently) for tuna…she has learned hard cooked eggs = tunafish. ; ) Happy, hoppy Easter, Anne!

Thanks for the info on eggs, I always wondered how to tell. The eggs that are a couple of weeks old should peel nicely when boiled. Really fresh eggs always seem hard to get the shell off when they are boiled.
I’m anxiously awaiting Monday for the next Snowbound block. I just posted pictures of the first three that I just got finished. I was a little slow starting but I am ready for number four. The little snowmen are so adorable and so much fun to make! ! !

Okay… I’m not trying to be a smarty pants, but I can just see someone out there putting the egg in a “bow”. I did read “bowl” when I read it but I just had to giggle when I pictured someone who has never heard of this putting a bow around an egg and trying to see it “float”.
