What’s On Your Wall?

What’s on the wall in your sewing room?  Do you have an inspiration board, or a place to put all the pictures and things that inspire you?  I’m inspired by so many things; some you’ll find on my wall…

Here at Bunny Hill I have inspiration walls,  inspiration boards,  inspiration books, inspiration binders, and inspiration drawers.   I remember reading years ago that Martha Stewart keeps file cabinets filled with things that inspire her.  To think that she clips things out of magazines too!  Amazing!

My journals are the simple black ones you can buy at any art store.  They have plain pages just waiting to be filled.  I keep a supply of glue sticks just for the occasion.

And my binders are assorted.  I buy pink binders when I can find them but it’s really HARD to find good pink binders.  Soft, shabby chic binders would be more my style…

I’ve been saving clippings and pictures for as long as I can remember.   I go through each magazine or catalog before I throw it away and clip out anything I like.  I glue small pictures into journals.  I put larger articles into plastic binder pages, and other things get put into a drawer in file folders organized by subject.   I love going through my clippings and journals.  It’s an endless source of inspiration for me!

So before you throw out that catalog that came in the mail, or magazine that you just finished reading, think about what you saw.   It may be worth saving.

Sharon over at Farm & Fru Fru has a great post about inspiration boards.  Be sure and read it.  You’ll get lots of ideas!

Hey, what’s up with all the Moda stuff in this post?  Did you notice?   Are you a Moda Maniac too?

Hugs,

Anne

    Anne,
I really like your inspiration wall and board!! Did you make the shape of your board or did you find it somewhere? You do a lovely job on your blog and all your patterns. It is fun to stop by and catch up from time to time. Would you recommend a beginner appliquer (sp?) start with the CD you offer in your store? I dream of making quilts from your patterns but don’t know how.
    Have a great day!

I have been saving clipping (and whole articles!) for several years. The inspiration I have taken from these has helped me renovate out Victorian school house and help me hold on to the dream that one day I will open my own shop. I have just bought some lovely red files with spots on and have spent several days organising them into ‘holiday ideas, favourite shops, super duper homes and garden ideas’. Whenever I need a lift or some inspiration I sit with a coffee and go through them. Its like the best ever magazine in the world!.

I started filling notebooks with inspiration clippings when I was a teenager…I thought I was weird…it’s good to know that I’m in great company!

I just knew that you were moving to Moda…yippee!!!

I feel a little dumb…I have been clipping inspirations from magazines since I was a little girl and never ever thought about placing them in a journal. Duh. They are in a file labled inspirations but not for much longer! Journal shopping here I come!
I love Moda..Can’t wait to see what is coming!

Anne maybe you should cover your binders with some of your favorite Moda fabric…you could do it like we all used to do with brown paper bags but with fabric! I admit it, I’m an idea file junkie too.

    Hi,
As well inspiration folders, I have a happiness wall. On it I pin all those heartwarming stories about animals we get in our papers – the elderly lady with her cheeky roost-ruling cockatoo, the orphaned wombats and kangaroos raised by dedicated wildlife rescuers, tiny piglets in a teacup, donkeys visiting old diggers in a repatriation hospital – and a myriad more that make my heart sing and remind me the world can be a wonderful place. My latest addition – a baby elephant in Sydney zoo. Everyone thought he died in the mother elephant’s womb but yesterday he was born alive. He belongs on my happiness wall.

Oh my gosh! I have always thought I was the only insane enough to cut out my favorite parts of magazines to paste into books! I love it! AND I am addicted to Moda! I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us.

Hey, we organize our inspirations in much the same way! Except my journals all have very feminine covers w/ soft, beautiful designs, can’t help myself :-) I’m currently working on four quilted panels of scrappy patches to match my sewing room, which I’m going to mount on the four-panel closet door so I can pin pics of family, mementos etc, more inspiration.

Moda fabrics are my inspiration! I’ve searched through http://www.quiltshops.com for many of the older Moda lines and have found some wonderful designs that are no longer readily available – their fabric colors and designs are fantastic! I could (and have) spent hours upon hours “just looking” when I should be quilting!

Is your new fabric line coming out this Spring? Waiting on pins and needles to see what you’ve come up with for Moda – I love Moda and can’t wait to see what’s new! Love your updates and all your wonderful, inspiring designs. – Marlene

First of all, YOU are my inspiration. I just LOVE your patterns and your sewing room is to die for! I have a large design wall and two inspiration boards — oh, for more hours in the day to fulfill all these aspirations. I love Moda fabrics — I am definitely a Moda Maniac — I check in at the Moda Bake Shop on a daily basis — no calories and lots of delectables!

Sadly, my design wall no longer exists…I moved houses this past fall and my sewing room is not quite organized…just enough that I can find things but not as tidily as I would like…time will take care of all that. However, I do enjoy seeing others…

I just knew it. You are moving to Moda aren’t you? I can feel it in my bones. What? You didn’t know I was psychic now did you? I did NOT say psychotic mind you, so don’t go there!! lol!!

I love inspiration binders. I have about 6 of them, and small journals with lots of doodles and scribbles in them. I save pictures on my computer all the time that inspire me. Eventually, they come back and nudge their way into my work. One idea brings about another, an so on and so on. Hmmmmm…. you Moda maniac, you! Can I join your club?
