Pink Knit Socks

These socks belong to me! They were hand knit by my assistant Brigette and she gave them to me!  Brigette’s been working on them for weeks.  She knits every chance she gets, even standing in line at the DMV.

Lots of people wanted these socks.  Some even offered to pay her to knit them a pair.  She thought about the time it took and decided these are worth about $4000.   Hopefully she’ll get faster as she goes along.

People who don’t knit, sew, crochet etc.  have no idea how long it takes to create these wonderful handmade things!  Think of the hours we spend quilting, knitting, embroidering, appliquéing etc.  We do it for the love of the craft, because if we were paid by the hour we’d all be living grand!

Brigette gave the socks to me but she doesn’t really believe I’ll wear them.  So I’m wearing the pink socks.  I’m wearing them so much she may have to make me another pair.  Soon.

She’s working on a blue pair now.  And today I noticed she has some black & white wool in her basket.  She’s getting faster already.  At least I hope so!

And, for those of you interested in the cotton throw I’m crocheting, here’s a direct link to the kit.

I’ll be back on Friday with block three of “Snowbound”!

Hi there just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The text in your article seem to be running off the screen in Firefox. I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with web browser compatibility but I figured I’d post to let you know. The design look great though! Hope you get the issue resolved soon. Many thanks

Your pink socks are beautiful. Brigette did a great job, and she WILL get faster! Socks are so much fun to knit and so popular right now, too. Lots and lots of yummy sock yarns out there. My sister and I both knit socks, and out favorite pattern for the heel is the eye of partridge. Hope you have a new pair of socks soon! The Sock Sisters – Beth & Debbie

The socks are awesome! Love the color and yarn, can we ask Brigette what she used? Does she kknit from the top down or the toe up? I have made a pair of socks and they didn’t fit me! How did she know they would fit so well? Any chance of a knitted sock tutorial? To receive a pair of hand knitted socks is the highest compliment anyone can give you.

Anne, I’m so behind in my browsing, finally saw this post! Love the pink socks, love the pink afghan you are crocheting…I’m afraid if you keep posting your progress pics, you’ll have me crocheting again too, haven’t done that in years! Can’t wait to see the next pics :-)

I love your pink socks! Do you think that we could find out what yarn your Brigette used? They look like the same pattern that I use for my socks (in my “basket” is multi colored yarn (pink, blue, lavendar and a very light green) that is working up beautifully.

You are soooo lucky to have a Brigette!!! Those socks are fabulous. Brigette is so sweet and kind and generous. Could those socks be any more perfect for you and your PINK???

  • Sandi

Oh, what a chuckle!! I love pink so I think your socks are divine! I don’t knit or crochet so if I tried to make socks I would have to buy some yarn, then take a class, and since I tried to learn and didn’t get it for either ……well, I bet my socks could cost upwards of $800. This was such a funny post! :-)

Pink socks, pretty pink socks! There is a comic in the paper where the little kitty sings that. I agree, people will say, “oh, you quilt (or cross stitch) can you make me a quilt?” I’ve learned some really good (ad polite) ways to say no. It’s a time factor, for sure, but they also don’t understand the expense.

I expect to see those little pink socks at class!

Oh Anne, you lucky duck! I agree with Karen C. I want my own Bridgette too!! Those socks are delightful and how nice to have such a great friend knit those for you. Your pink posts are “The Bomb” (that’s the new term for fabulous, according to my teenagers). Makes me think Spring actually is right around the corner.

Love the socks, and did you know I am a knitter-wanna-be?? I have done one project, but really want to do some socks too. What a wonderful assistant you have, you must be really good friends,as well. Enjoy them, as I’m sure you will – pink is perfect!!

Beautiful. Yes, most people are clueless about the time involved in “handmade” as well as material costs. As a recent self-taught crocheter I certainly appreciate the time commitment–3 hours for me to make a dishcloth! Crafting is a labor of love. Enjoy your new PINK socks.

You are so right that people do not have a clue as to our time or talent. They think it is a snap to do hand made things and would never pay us what our time is worth. I love the socks.

  • Elizabeth

I also knit socks and I think Brigette’s pink socks look just great. I know you appreciate all the time and effort she put into making those socks! The greatest compliment you could give Brigette is to wear out the socks.

Those socks are beautiful, and so is Brigette for spending all that time on them and giving them away. I know what you mean about people knowing the worth of handmade things. My husband knows how long I spend knitting my bunnies and still thinks the amount I charge is a lot. I am cheap compared to some and not too slow. Brigette deserves and extra teabreak I think. x

  • Karen C

I want my own Brigette, what pattern did she use, I LOVE those sox. I can see that pink is flavour of the month so far with your blogging.

  • Beth

Your socks are lovely, I too like to knit socks, I started a pair today in fact. I would love to know what that yarn is that Brigette used. It’s beautiful. They get easier to make the more you make them, so pretty soon she’ll be able to whip you out another pair lickety split.

it’s true, i was knitting at the DMV.
but i just have to say… what svelte ankles you have.
you’re the best sock model ever! you make them look like they’re worth a million bucks, or, at least four thousand!

  • bradie sparrow

You are one lucky girl! I had to giggle about knitting at the DMV, and the socks being worth thousands. We really are slaves to our crafts aren’t we? Don’t wear them out too fast. :)
