Crochet Anyone?

Look at what I started!  I’m so excited!!!  I haven’t crocheted in years, and the amazing thing is that once I put that crochet hook in my hand it all came back!   I can’t believe that a repetition of stitches can be so ingrained I can recall it years later.

This basket of beautiful pink, soft, pink, cotton, pink yarn is going to become a throw!  I selected three shades of delicious pink!

Here’s what I’ve done so far…

It’s a pieced throw that will end up looking like patchwork.  It’s worked in long strips, with half double crochet blocks of assorted colors.  I’m ready to add the next color!  Care to join me?  You can find the pieced throw pattern in the book called “Simple Crochet” (you’ll find it on my book tab above) and you can find the yarn here.   I’m using the softest European handknit cotton from Rowan.  And the crochet hook?  It’s one of the new ergonomic hooks from Clover.  I love it!

Don’t crochet?  You could easily knit this throw!  I’m ready to add the next color and then I’ll be back with more pictures.

Do you have a craft that you love other quilting?  I’m betting that most of us “crafty” types have many other talents!  Applique is my passion, but working with yarn is fun too!

Next post I’m going to show you my $4000 pair of  hand knit socks that Brigette made me.  She thinks I’ll never wear them.

Hugs,

Anne

PS: My favorite color is pink and my 68th birthday is July 10th. :) Do you have a pattern? Would like to do this for myself, since I am a retired high school teacher from western SD, I can do whatever I want! :)

Hi Anne, it’s so funny that you mention crochet. I also recently picked up my old crochet hook and I am now crocheting again after many many years of not crocheting. I also just remembered the stitches as if it was yesterday. I crocheted a hat. It was so cold here in the south this year so I decided to crochet a hat for myself. It’s posted on my blog (not sure how far back I posted about it). I also scrapbook, of course sewing, embroidery, and my first love would have to be Tole painting, or decorative painting. I will go and check out the pattern. It sounds alot like the one I crocheted years ago. I will have to take a picture of it and post it on my blog.
    Have a good one!

I enjoy embroidery. One of the things I love about your patterns is that they usually contain some embroidery mixed with applique. I am in a guild and learning everyday. I cant say I am really great at it, but I like it. (Not quite as much as quilting). Have fun reuniting with your old/new craft. The brain is amazing in that some things are like riding a bike, we can just pick it back up after years. Have a good one!

I have been knitting lately. I try to spend sometime in the evening with my husband watching a bit of TV. After being away at work all day I feel bad if I always hole up in my sewing room. I am working on a throw of soft neutrals, green and PINK!

There is something so satisfying in doing things with your hands. I have been on a cross stitch craze lately. I can sit in my chair and work away while spending time with my husband, watching an old movie or just relaxing. I love it! Funny, because I too, did it years ago, and never dreamed I’d pick it up again, but it’s more enjoyable than I remembered!! Love your (of course, pink) yarns. Have fun!

Hi Anne–I love to knit–easy things–right now I knit 4 baby hats for the newborns at my local hospital–I especially enjoy knitting while I am doing laundry!!!
I also forgot to tell you that I have my Tisket-Tasket blocks all made and they are on display on my workshop site–it was last week that I got them finished–so scroll down some–I made each one into a little wall hanging by itself for my front door!!! Thank you soo much!!

I started crocheting again about a year ago, after about a 10-year absence, and I love it again. I like to crochet in the car, or while I’m watching tv. Can’t wait to see your yummy throw when it’s finished!

Funny, I was just talking to my BFF last night about crocheting. I have an afghan I started years ago that I want to finish and she is going to help me. A little more portable than quilting! Love the pink!

I really can’t crochet anymore since I am a dentist my hands can’t take the repetitve motion. Knitting..oddly I can do. The needles prevent me from bending my wrist…so no pain. But quilting is my first love.

Ooh — I’m in. Did some knitting this winter, but haven’t crocheted in a long time. Now which of the Rowan yarns did you order? I don’t see European handknit cotton on the web site. I want to start right this minute. That being said, I have at least five quilts going — still my number one passion! There aren’t enough hours in the day!

Besides designing new patterns and fabric, and running a business you also have time to crochet?!! You are truly an amazing lady! (What kind of vitamins do you take?)

Gorgeous pink yarn!!! I used to crochet, haven’t tried it in years. Other than quilting, my latest passion seems to be Quaker cross-stitch samplers.

I was a knitter long before I was a quilter — I’ve worked at yarn shops and won awards for my knitting, but I’m in a bit of a knitting slump right now. Good think I love to quilt, too!

Is that All Seasons Cotton you’re working with? That’s a nice yarn — I have a sweater I knitted out of that in a luscious purple, and it’s one of my favorites.

I’ve been crocheting for months. I picked it up again when I crocheted an afghan for my grandson’s baptism last May. I’ve crocheted several items in the last few months. I’d love to join in, but I have a few other crochet projects I’m working on. I’ll watch your progress though. Have fun?

Besides quilting and crocheting, I also embroider, cross stitch and have been thinking about sewing a few summer outfits for my grandson. I’m always making something.
