Oh Christmas Tree
I’ve always had a live tree. It’s only in the past several years that we’ve gone to an artificial tree. It’s against all my principles, but it’s necessary. It’s an artificial tree or no tree, it’s that simple. The month gets shorter every year, and there’s never time now to get “Christmas” pulled together. So I fill my tree with so many ornaments you can hardly see the branches. Ahhh, but I miss the smell of pine!
My tree is a happy one this year. Must be because of these little red heads…
This little angel is perched in the branches, watching over the tree. She’s new and she’s from Nordstrom!
And the Allie dogs love their place among the ornaments…a pink Allie
… a gray “French General” Allie
And isn’t that Henrietta Whiskers in my tree? Can you see her? She’s a little shy.
My little feather tree sits in our family room and holds my childhood ornaments every year.
And my sweet snow angel sits near a container of ornaments.
And every year my special collection of teddy bears adorn the dining room.
One of these days I’m going to have a tree filled with bunnies. Seems the right thing to do. Of course, I’ll have to get a live tree to celebrate!

Good Morning Anne:
I just love your white feather tree with your childhood ornaments. I do the same thing evey year. The tree is on a little table in my dining room. The ornaments are from the late 40’s into the 50’s. Even though I live 3000 miles from my sibling, that tree makes the miles seem much closer. Love what you do and your big Christmas tree is beautiful. Mine will get deorated today!!! It is artificial though — living in SoCal it seems a bit more practical and I can leave it up longer that I ever could with a real tree. Happy Hoidays!!

For some reason, trees these days don't seem to have that pine smell like they used to. Some kind of hybrid maybe??? I have some essential oils that I sprinkle on a basket of pine cones to bring the scent into the room. Your tree is very pretty even if it is artificial!!

We have a faux tree too. As much as I love the real thing, I also love the ease of pre-lit, just assemble it and plug it in fakes. I agree with you that it's hard to fake the smell though. If you're near a Pottery Barn, see if they still have any packages of cedar branches. Instead of the faux pine bunches/boughs they've had in past years, this year the little sprigs are real. They smell amazing! And they look great too! :)

Check out aromatique's smell of christmas or pine ( I used to get it at Dillards), it's so nice to not have to clean up dried needles.

Your home is lovely at Christmas time. I love the vintage ornaments and the quilts. I have my first ornament from when I was a baby, but, alas, all the other family ornaments are long gone. I like to collect old ones now. We use an artificial tree. I love the smell of the real ones but am so paranoid of fire and putting the lights on the real one. I usually put so many ornaments on it, like you do, that you can't see the tree anyhow.

We must be around the same age because I have those same pointy ornaments and the one with the church.
We too, gave in and had to get an artificial tree. It was getting bad, when here in the warm weather the expensive live tree would be badly shedding a week before Christmas.

we always have an artificial tree – yes I miss the smell of pine but a real tree just doesn't last long and I don't want to have to get all those pine needles picked up. I love the wall hanging on the wall – which pattern is that? I just ordered a pattern from you the other day and looking forward to it in my mailbox!

A fake tree is a fact of life in AZ if you want to keep it up for more than a week or two while at the same time keeping your house above 60 degrees. I have tried desperately to fake the smell (candles and whatnot) but I am not fooling anyone. But after all these years I've come to terms with it. Sorta. Kinda.

Thank you for the peek at your trees. We are in the process of putting ours up. We have a little advent tree in our dining room that's been up since December 1st. My husband assembled the artificial tree yesterday and our cut tree is waiting to be brought in. We celebrate Epiphany on January 6th and our trees usually stay up until the middle of January. Mostly because it takes us so long to get everything back down.

Over 10 years ago I finally figured out that I was usually sick the entire month of Dec. Because of my Christmas tree. We always went out and chopped ours down. Since then it has be artifical and I no longer have upper respiratory issues…duh. Then when they came out with pre-strung lights on fake trees…I was in heaven and i do believe I saw the red headed angel! Your tree is the sweetest!
