I Love That Color!

What’s in a color?  Amazing when you think about it! Do you say “I HATE that color” or “I LOVE that color”? Click here and see how you respond to this color wheel.  (There’s an iPhone color app on this link too!)  Have you painted a room one of these colors?  Are you a brave red type or a shabby pink?

As the new studio addition draws near, I’ve been thinking about wall colors. Lurking nearby in the garage, we have CANS of paint. Palest of pinks, the freshest blue, a green I’ve decided I “Hate”. Test colors, used colors, colors we bought too much of. My hubby is the frugal one and of course wants to use the garage paint.  He’s picked the pale pink. “It’s already there” he says, and “we won’t have to buy any ”.

I’m the extravagant one.  I want a color that makes me feel “settled in” right away.  One that lets me mix in all my distressed, vintage finds. I want a neutral color on the wall.  I’m going with  “Devine Icing” ! Love or hate the color, you have to love the name!

Devine Icing

  • Sue - When choosing a color, I like to tape the color chips/samples from the store on the wall to see how they look during the day and at night. Once I narrow my choices down to 2-3 colors, I usually buy a small sample of the paint to put on the walls to see which color I prefer. I went with Irish Cream from Sherwin Williams. Lots of great colors out there to look at.
    Have fun.ReplyCancel

  • Cathy - Cool tool – my birthday color is Canton, a sort of aqua. I rather like it and the description of my personlity was amazingly accurate.ReplyCancel

  • Anonymous - I have discovered that the light bulb used can affect how the paint color looks at night. I love the pale yellow I chose during the day. At night it takes on a lemony tint that I do NOT care for. Lesson learned. Jane

  • CJ - I was Little Boy Blue – eh. My husband and daughter would have been happy with it. I like COLOR! RED,CHOCOLATE,TURQUOISE. My walls though – chai tea. I can never decide on paint colors, this came with the house. I love to see photos of bravely painted rooms though. :D Who makes this DEVINE paint??ReplyCancel

  • sewpam63 - I must admit, I am not color inhibited. I painted our kitchen cupboards RED! Our sofa is…RED! We just renovated our bedroom and used shades of aqua. I LOVE color!!! : ) Color is part of what makes quilting SO much FUN for me!!!ReplyCancel

  • What Comes Next? - I'm "Smoke Green". Interesting, as when we moved into this place 4 years ago, I painted all the main public areas a similar colour, or one of 3 variations of it! The write up was also pretty darn accurate. I do like colour, and have painted the powder room lipstick red!
(Strange enough, it took me 7 years to pick a colour for our old living room, aand all of about 3 minutes for this place!)ReplyCancel

  • QUILTING IS BLISSFUL, DI - Well I am Bud Green and the description was somewhat on key for me–i do love color and that is why I love quilting–yet–I do not seem to have an "eye" for putting colors together and seeing how they will come out in the end!!!! crazy, hu?//

  • MahSistersQuiltTrunk - It is hard to see your choice on the card but I also like Devine Icing and Devine vanilla. The two colors I do not like to work with are purple and orange. My color was in the purple range so go figure.ReplyCancel

  • Huneybee Quilts - That was the neatest link to go to! I am Dahlia Purple.. while I like purple it's not my super favorite.. I'm a green/blue/red/err.. really most colors.. (even purple) but not specifically purple! The information they had on my date though seemed pretty accurate to me!ReplyCancel

  • JKW - Regal Orchid – I do feel better in a darker purple – hadn't realized that until I found my birthday. After cateract surgery, I realized practically my whole house is med. rose. I hate pink, never have worn pink and now find out after 10 years I've been living in a pink house. How did that happen!!!??? Oh, right, leaving at 6 a.m. in the morning and arriving home at almost 6 p.m. I never saw it. Blessings, JanetReplyCancel

  • Annie - It is funny for me to think about color…when it comes to my fabric am secure, unwaivering in my choices…but give me the choice of what to put on the wall…I freak! My friend Robin says…it's only paint, if you don't like it you can paint over. But for some reason wall color is scary!ReplyCancel

  • Lesliebee - Wow, Grape Mist, kind of a blue color, not what I would expect, but the description was flattering. Color works for me, I have no white walls, but I do obsess over what color to paint everything. At one point I had 5 colors of green in various spots in my living room trying to decide which to choose….ReplyCancel

  • JANE a. - I just saw this in a comic strip-name for squirrel is Squirrely Shirley.
they did not use this full name in the strip- a little girl misprponounced Shirley as squirrely. Have a nice day!ReplyCancel

  • Teresa - Mine is Mandarin Orange…who knew? I am sure I have none of this in my wardrobe or stash.ReplyCancel

  • Diane - I have a habit of buying a color I think I like, then after I get a bunch splashed on the wall, I end up using all kinds of leftover neutral color cans to customize it to be what I 'really' wanted. It's always worked….but now you can buy those little sample jars and get a good trial area painted on your wall before you invest in gallons. Thanks for the color wheel, that was fun, but mine wasn't me at all!!ReplyCancel
