A New Day!

It’s a new day at Bunny Hill and I have to say it feels SOOOOOOO good! So what happened to make it such a great day? Well, my friend Mary Jane sent me words of wisdom…”you don’t have to do as many patterns as you said”. Who would have ever thought those words could have so much power? Thank you Mary Jane! You’re my little angel (:I’ve spent the weekend locked in my studio, up at 5 AM every day, fabric messes all over, paper after pattern paper laying who knows where. Then yesterday it happened. I was rushing to get another tote bag pattern done (notice I said another?) I sewed the lining together and forgot to add the interfacing. Rip, rip was the sound you could hear. Then I added the interfacing. Sewed it again, squared the corners and then realized I had forgotten to add the pockets. By now I’m looking around for the men with the straight jackets to come carry me off.

And then Mary Jane sent me that email. Oh the power of words! The tote bag has been put aside until after market when I can enjoy making it. What a HUGE relief! To think that I don’t HAVE to finish it now! You aren’t going to leave me if I don’t, right? What was I thinking? It’s that thing that takes over every designer’s head just before market. MARKET BRAIN! If I could just get through one without it! Just one!

And to remind me what is important in life, I talked to a customer last week who runs a bunny sanctuary. Yes, a bunny sanctuary! She takes in bunnies from the shelters. I loved talking to her, it’s a cause after my own heart. Then look what she sends me in the mail! Carrot cookies! Are these not the cutest thing you’ve ever seen? Needless to say I’ve munched a few (:

Not to mention that spring is here, and I live in farm country! It’s the area where a lot of your fresh produce comes from. There are “fresh strawberry” signs all over right now and look at what my husband brought me! Beautiful berries, fresh picked, right from the farm. Oh what more could I ask for?

Like I said, it’s a new day at Bunny Hill!

  • Erin - Yeah! I’m happy that your not stressed. I am also happy that you took your friends advice. It can be tough getting ready for any kind of venue…and sometimes you just need to take a step back! I love the quilt with the angel on it! You are so talented! I am still deciding how to make my first quilt. I’ll figure something out and send you a picture when I do. Thanks for your inspiration!ReplyCancel

  • Cyndi Walker - Hear hear! I second that notion! I just had to cut a pattern from the spring line-up because it just wasn’t quite right yet. What a relief that I don’t HAVE to do it now… :)ReplyCancel

  • Mary - I never like sewing under pressure because when I do it’s just one mistake after another. Which it can also be on a nice relaxing sewing day … but that’s beside the point.

Congratulations on dodging that bullet. Good luck.ReplyCancel

  • KSedlak - Oh, Anne…. I do believe we can live without one more tote bag pattern for Market. Your friend is right. Besides, the process for creating should be fun and exciting for you.
I love the little quilt block I see there with the Angel. Your work is beautiful and I look forward to seeing the whole project when it’s done.
I love that about the bunny santuary. Every year we have bunnies coming to our yard and munch on the grass, etc. I just love them. They are so cute and it makes me happy to see them. It’s a wonderful sign that Spring is here.
Take care and enjoy your carrots and strawberries.

  • Anonymous - As one of your BIGGEST fans, I say please relax and enjoy…..you have given me enough projects to keep me busy for a long time. Think of it as keeping me unstressed as I am keeping you unstressed (G)!!!! A good friend of mine once told me to not turn what I love into a burden….which sometimes happens when I feel that I have to have MORE things made for classes or whatever. So I say stop and smell the flowers, eat those delicious strawberries and have a “be nice to Anne Day”……you deserve it!!!! Annie from San DiegoReplyCancel

  • Nanette Merrill and daughters - Aw Anne, I’m sure everything will be darling. YOu will be exhausted by market but it will work out! An old pennsylvania dutch saying I repeat over and over to myself when I get in your quandry state is “the hurrier I go the behinder I get” not that it helps or changes things, but it helps me to breathe deep and really not much else! Market will be 100% successful for you.ReplyCancel
