White Pitchers on Yellow Wall

You’d think this was an easy thing to do…buy some white pitchers and arrange them on the mantle. Well guess what? It’s been a decorating fiasco and it’s all because of my husband. Yes, my husband who thinks he is the decorator. My husband has this “thing” about symmetry.

It was fine when we just had one pitcher. Not much he could do with that except move it into the center. Of course he just couldn’t resist. It wasn’t long until I noticed the pitcher right in the center. I think he even measured to make sure it was right.

Then it wasn’t long until he took my three pitchers above and did this…

One in the center and the other two on each end, equal distance apart.

And with five pitchers you get a range from large to small….

So now after I’ve threatened you know what, I finally have this…well, as of 1:o4 PM Pacific time.

Of course now I have 10 pitchers…even number, can’t have that. We may have to add on to the mantle to make us both happy. (:

  • Cathy - I love your white pitchers against the yellow wall and the quilt blocks in the old window–absolutely beautiful! Very cheery and cozy.
Yes, why is it men think they can help us decorate. I have a husband much like yours and sometimes it’s drives me nuts. LOL! My mother always says the man’s place to decorate it the spot behind the curtain!

    Cathy :)

(Ps–add a colored pitcher up there and see what he does. LOL! )ReplyCancel

  • Thimbleanna - Too funny! Those pitchers with the quilt are so pretty. You know, another one might cause more confusion — I think you should get enough more that they all stand next to each other across the mantle with no gaps LOL!ReplyCancel

  • PamKittyMorning - Cute.. now start turning the handles!!!ReplyCancel

  • Lynne in Hawaii - Your DH can’t help himself. It is a personality trait…bet he is a picture straightener too. When he hang’s something on the wall it has to be exactly centered (measured 4 times to be sure!). My DH even has his DVD’s chronologically placed on the shelf! Must have order.ReplyCancel

  • Amy - LOL! Ever seen Monk on TV? If your husband votes to keep the collection to an even 10, I might start to worry!ReplyCancel

  • Beth - You pitchers against the yellow wall with the framed quilt are gorgeous! I was laughing to myself about the husband, they think they can decorate! I have a husband who can’t and doesn’t even try, which is a good and bad thing.ReplyCancel

  • Nicole - I have to tell you, I started a collection of white pitchers too. It drove me absolutely crazy trying to arrange them. My mom was obsessed with symmetry and I must have inherited it from her. All the decorating books say that an odd number of things is most appealing visually. I tried arranging those pitchers every which way imaginable, and ended up putting them back in the cupboard. You have inspired me to dig them out and try again!ReplyCancel

  • Meredith - It is lovely. I have a few white pitchers in my home also and I do enjoy them. They are great to hold flowers. I must say my DH has his “own” ideas but many times he forgets what they were. HA. HA.ReplyCancel

  • Jackie - Love the white pitchers and especially the yellow walls and quilt! I have a love for yellow and white as I live in a yellow house trimmed in white. It truly is a happy color!ReplyCancel

  • Yummers! - I had a good laugh!! I think that’s very typical of most men to want things symetrical.

I miss my yellow walls. I remarried and everything is beige. Not our life… just carpet and walls. I’ve brought as much red as I can into the house, but the walls are here to stay. Although my art work is beginning to cover them.

  • Nanette Merrill and daughters - Thats so funny. My husband is like that, too. Maybe its the mathemetician in him.

Anyway Love the whole mantle, pitcher, window, quilt look. Its clean and colorful all at the same time. I love that look.ReplyCancel

  • Kristin - hysterical! Mine is the same about this set of three very cool, architectural spindle things we have. They look great in a cluster, but he spreads them out so one is in the middle, one is on each side and they are pushed all the way back against the wall. Whenever I can, I move them back to a cluster. It’s so nice to see I am not alone. Funny thing though is that he is not into order with anything else but those things! (I love the way you have framed the quilt squares!) thanks for a laugh -KristinReplyCancel

  • Perry - Your pitcher story is really funny. Don’t you just hate it when men feel like the have to have every thing even or symetrical? No wonder things are in a mess in the world, lol…must be their fault.ReplyCancel
